Use Defrost without A/C turning on for improved Performance and increased Fuel economy. Defrost A/C Control Modification (1) turn off ignition. (2) vent to Top only. (3) temperature to max heat. (4) fan speed to medium. (5) hold recirculate & A/C buttons. (6) ignition to RUN position. (7) release buttons after blinking. You now have the option to disable AC while Defrost is selected. Very useful modification for any 2001 - 2005 Honda Civic. // post comments below //
Bro thank you so much for posting this... I thought there was something wrong with my AC system. I had no idea that it only did this when defrost was selected. After following the steps it works as normal, I am so relieved 😎
One other reason this is a function on nearly every car made, is it runs your AC compressor in the winter to keep it oiled and from seizing from lack of use.
My nephew asked about this business after he started messing with all the controls. Thought I should look it up. He's the social media madman, and Uncle gets to find the cause while he destroys the Civic.
Most vehicles use air conditioning compressor to run Defrost. If your vehicle is older and battery is weak having the option to disable the heavy compressor load is excellent. I use this often.
Press the A/C button again to turn off green light and compressor will stop if you enabled this option. As stated by others its always good to run the A/C normally to keep the oil flowing in the compressor.

Great point!
Does this change remain if you disconnect and then connect the battery?

The Honda 2005 Si model came as interior pattern option. Visit a wrecker yard and salvage one.
