I'm about halfway done with fitting the new cam, just got the alternator cover off. That was tough! A rubber mallet helped me loosen the left and bottom, the top right corner was very difficult, but I found it helpful to use some plastic pry tools (used for interior trim parts, won't damage the gasket surface) to get leverage between the cover and the block to wiggle it loose. Not too much pressure. I also expect the reassembly of the ignition module to be finicky.
This cam delivers on the performance claims, but you will need to get your 900 water cooled twin tuned. Don't run this cam with the x-pipe, mufflers, high flow air filter and de-snorkel unless you also tune the bike on a dyno with a PCV or TuneECU. We did all the mods, and the AFR down low was in the high 10 range, and up top was close to 15. Way out of spec... It ran, but riding it hard with it that lean would do damage to the motor over time. If you install this cam, TUNE THE BIKE. We saw a 28% increase in power, the fueling and motor are now happy, and you can actually run the bike up to redline. It pulls hard right to the rev limiter, rather than having to short shift it at 5000rpm... Which means, you can gear the bike down for even more drive, without sacrificing top end speed. Completely new bike is how it feels, but if you are gonna do this cam, do it right and tune the bike after the install. You will thank me.

What I have found is there is one specific Triumph tune for almost every market; EU, Thailand, Australia, U.S. etc. even in some cases different spec accessories as in muffler specs, Evap canisters etc. I think while it may be safe to run the cam without a PCV or fueling device your going to have a variety of results. there can't be one updated factory tune for all markets.re- mapping and advancing the timing would be necessary to achieve the full benefits of installing a cam, a pcV would be a good investment, but in addition you need a good dyno tuner and dyno time to be safe and achieve proper results, there is no free lunch, unless you want to leave power on the table. And to be safe, I would at least dyno the bike to make sure I was not lean. altitude, temp and humidity of your riding environment all play a part, unless your only riding in the UK.
DEeMON Hi,If you want to be sure that the bike is not running too lean you can use a booster plug as a back up and this will run about 6% more fuel on open loop. We are going to produce pcv maps for the 900 and 1200 motorcycles, these will be based on the stock USA and EU tunes .In testing with a cam only fitted both types run very well and safe with the stock update tunes, no big gain in the pcv on 900 even with extra mods, but on 1200 you can see more power due to the larger throttle bodies when using a pcv with more ignition advance and raising the rev limiter
yes, I have a Booster plug presently with a de-cat, my own design custom short pipes de-snorkeled airbox. Also running a 44 tooth rear sprocket, turning 4 second 0-60 times already. how much faster with a cam, I suspect not much, due to the single throttle body nearly maxed out already, smallish valves and porting compared the the 1200cc bikes. You have to realize bikes sold outside the EU and the U.S. are often sold by non Triumph dealers, and there is no available map upgrade., We are stuck with Booster Plug or PCV for any additional fueling, or timing maps. but The PCV requires advanced skills and a dyno to properly tune the bike, as well as re calibrate the throttle position sensor. In any event I have a late model Street Twin, so no cam yet from your offerings. It would be nice to know what maps we may or may not have based on VIN, and whether they are available for all the 5 tunes worldwide. mine came with tune 4, which is Thailand tune. exhaust was choked down to 78 DB per frame sticker. But not now! :)
A very helpful & informative video, George. As mentioned by previous comments the sound drops out a bit in places, the worst time when you demonstrate resetting the cam chain tensioner. I can recommend to anyone that's a bit unsure of this procedure they watch a video by Muddysump - Tiger 800 Cam Chain Tensioner Reset. The Tiger 800 tensioner differs slightly in appearance to the Twins but is basically the same design & procedure to reset. I would like to know, could the original two camshaft sprocket bolts be loosened off before removing the original cam from the engine ? to avoid possible damage from clamping in a vice.
Brilliant, great upgrade for this bike, your fantastic research, has reopened my enthusiasm to purchase this bike. You mentioned that after this upgrade the breaks would need attention, can you tell me when you plan on looking at this. best regards
George just checking my valve gaps on my water cooled bonie T100....using a haynes workshop manual....it agrees with the inlet tolerances you quote in the vid 0.05 to 0.13mm but my book for exhaust quotes 0.12 to 0.22mm....in the vid you quote for exhaust 0.08 to 0.18mm. Can you confirm the correct exhaust gap please.
Also I've just take the maden ride with the cam fitted it feels more powerful. But I've noticed the revs very slowly now. Do you know why this is and how it might go away? Thank you
Very good walkthrough. I did notice that you had a steering stabilizer installed. Can you share information on it and if it fits the Thruxton RS. Thanks for a great tutorial.
They don't have one for the Thruxton RS and no that one only fits the Street Twin/Cup. They have a steering damper for the T100/T120 but those would not fit on a Thruxton either, though I don't think a Thruxton even needs one, as far as I know the steering is very well built, you can message TEC directly, they usually respond pretty quickly.
it doesn't look like a difficult job, but it would be expensive if I got it wrong. How much would it be in labour if I got you guys to replace the cam?
Great video, thank you for that. Since I am planning to change the CAM, I was very focus, so I think I heard TEC Bike FART 25:20 :D No hate, just amuse myself how focus I was.
Hi....just wondering watching this video...are the cams on the 900 and 1200 a bit on the weak side to be covering a video showing how to replace them? Its ok...further into the vid You explained why you change the cams and that they are good for 100k miles. Thank you for a very informative video.
If you could build a performance camshaft and hi-compression pistons for the Kawasaki VN1600 range you'd be on a winner!!! You could easily take it from 70bhp to 85/90bhp and sell them by the bucket load all around the world.

Brilliant informative video, this man knows his stuff!!.......keep up the good work
A very helpful & informative video, George. I would like to know, could the original two camshaft sprocket bolts be loosened off before removing the original cam from the engine ? to avoid possible damage from clamping in a vice.
hi, just wandering, is that camshaft suitable for the 2023 scrambler....
Brilliant, great upgrade for this bike, your fantastic research, has reopened my enthusiasm to purchase this bike. You mentioned that after this upgrade the breaks would need attention, can you tell me when you plan on looking at this. best regards
Awesome! Finally!!! When will this cam be available on the website? Great work guys! 👍🏼
we are releasing cams in batches now to people on our email mailing list
Is this the same process for thruxton r?do i need to replace the shims too or i can use the stock one?thanks!
Thank you
Can you link the parts needed for this mod at the video description?
Thanks for the great tutorial 😊
Is there a need to "run in" the new camshaft and redo the valve clearance after 500miles or so. ??
To purchase see- shop.tecbikeparts.com/products/cam-101
Very good walkthrough. I did notice that you had a steering stabilizer installed. Can you share information on it and if it fits the Thruxton RS. Thanks for a great tutorial.
They don't have one for the Thruxton RS and no that one only fits the Street Twin/Cup. They have a steering damper for the T100/T120 but those would not fit on a Thruxton either, though I don't think a Thruxton even needs one, as far as I know the steering is very well built, you can message TEC directly, they usually respond pretty quickly.
Brilliant tutorial. Please keep it up.
Also, eliminating the airbox, did you have to remap the ecu? If so, what did you use? Thanks. Next month, I’ll be swapping my storm with a 2017 T100.
Camera guy is fired. Haha
such a good video, i actually feel like i could do this
it doesn't look like a difficult job, but it would be expensive if I got it wrong. How much would it be in labour if I got you guys to replace the cam?
Awesome garage with bird sounds
Great video, thank you for that. Since I am planning to change the CAM, I was very focus, so I think I heard TEC Bike FART 25:20 :D No hate, just amuse myself how focus I was.
Fantastic video George. Thank you
Hi there, thinking of buying this bike and getting this done to it. Can your company install these camshafts for a customer if we pay you?
Hi
yes we can do cam installs ,just contact us well in advance as workshop is really busy
@@georgemilburn6213 thanks George, will contact once I purchase. Hats off to you and all at TEC
Excellent video, many thanks, do you guys fit the cams for us less experienced type ?
You are amazing where did you learn all of this. Do you work for Tec?
Two thumbs up! very informative video :) Keep up the good work
Hi....just wondering watching this video...are the cams on the 900 and 1200 a bit on the weak side to be covering a video showing how to replace them?
Its ok...further into the vid You explained why you change the cams and that they are good for 100k miles.
Thank you for a very informative video.
.....what happens after 100k???
how can i buy this camshaft ... It's out of stock !
Hi! Please onece again, What is the valve clearance?
George your video makes me think I might be able to handle the job. Will the 1200 cam shaft fit the 2018 speedmaster ?
Is this the same or very similar process as doing a cam change on a efi 865cc air-cooled engine?
That was great video, very helpful thanks very much!!
I really enjoyed watching. Thanks mate
Hooray you're back! I was wondering what had happened?? Anyway I'm glad to see your latest video.
sorry been really busy
No need to apologise. I was just worried you might have been ill or summat. Anyway glad you're back.
Great video ..sounds a bit ropey but very informative..great work
Hi
I was using the mic to close to my neck, something to watch for next time
If you could build a performance camshaft and hi-compression pistons for the Kawasaki VN1600 range you'd be on a winner!!! You could easily take it from 70bhp to 85/90bhp and sell them by the bucket load all around the world.
Does a new T100 need valve shim change at 20,000 kilometres (at an extra cost of $370.00 + $400.00 for the service)?
Beautiful job!
I have recently installed one in my t120 and now the revs seem to drop of much more slowly when closing the throttle. Is this normal? Thanks.
Hi did you find out why this was happening? And did you find a fix
Hi John, been a year, can you update on your issue with the rev drop off? Thanks
Take these bolts these bolts these bolts this pipe this pipe this pipe this cable these screws agh panic sets in
great vid.. maybe a little beyond my confidence hoever.. do you guys fit these at all?
Sorry as we are so busy at this time of year we cannot offer a fitting service , but any good workshop will be able to fit the cam for you.
@MOTOBOB have you seen this?
Thankyou Sir, dont mind that sound, just 1 Question, pls show some graf off before, and after shifting the camshaft, for the T120 - where as my interest is - you shure got me interested - easy now, aint gone roadracing downtown (62 years old) just wants that beautiful bike "running free" - - stock version sounds/feels kindof "blockèd - - - - Best Regards from Denmark
we are making cams now and will show dyno run graphs of new cams when available
@@TECBikeParts looking for this t120 graph. Can't be found anywhere. Any update?
Dyno on t120 before and after with or without decat can't be found anywhere. Could you please let us know! Thanks
Hey lads - did you do that video on how to tune ECU etc? Mentioned it on first cam video 😎
Hi George I’ve got a thruxton 900 and I’m a bit short I could do with dropping the seat about 1 and half inches can you recommend the easy it’s way regards den it’s a 2007
Hi
The easy way is to use our Thruxton adjustable length shocks, these are available with or without damping adjustment. If you use them without the supplied spacer fitted you can drop the seat height down as much as 2 inches if required. see links - shop.tecbikeparts.com/products/adjustable-gas-shocks-thruxton

dude your great, thank you very much,
Can you fit a cam on the 2018 and after street twin?
Will this increase the overall power of the latest t100?
The lov of wisdom
Does anyone know the names or numbers for the camshaft holder and timing pin tools he mentions?
Am I correct in assuming, based on your emphasis on water-cooled, that the cams are different on the 2017 air-cooled scramblers and these camshafts cannot be used in those engines?
Ed Weeks
Yes Triumph changed the head design slightly and the cam is different
There are a bunch of moments when the microphone is getting covered up/muffled. Perhaps be conscious of this in other videos. But it's good video nonetheless, I have been waiting to watch this. Thanks.
I get a sweat on changing the saddle! Anyone had a mechanic do this well? Preferably in/near London? It's at the end of my mods list for my Street Twin...
