- HID Bulb, Igniter Wire and Ballast replacement performed on a 2005 Acura TL. Take caution when dealing with an HID (High Intensity Discharge) unit. Very high voltage runs through the system. Make sure you disconnect the battery, wait several minutes and handle with care. These components are also quite expensive. Handling with utmost care is prudent.

One thing most people don't realise is the Ballast degrades over time and causes the bulb to wear out a lot quicker and give a lower light output.
Yes I swapped my passenger Bulb last year. Now it's out again. I'm sure now the culprit is bad Ballast/igniter cause it def should have lasted longer than one year. So that's 💯% true

Great Video. Acura dealer wanted to charge me around $200 for 1 igniter. I bought a used one for 30.
+PJR 380 New ones are pricey but a good used unit will last a long time. Glad to help!
For all those who still need this video you do not have to remove the bumper just the first 2 bolts on the very far sides in fact it is possible to get to from the hood without even messing with the bumper but it is difficult to work your hands between the parts in front of it

I actually purchased after market bulbs. My driver side bulb went out before i made the switch.You are able to hear the clicking when noise coming from the driver side headlight when i attempt to turn on my light.

Hopefully someone has some answers for me. I drive a 2004 Acura TSX and I have to flick the light switch on and off multiple times for me to just be able to get the right headlight to turn on. I was told that it might be the ballast. Would I have to buy a whole kit and change the cables as well or just the ballast themselves? I've been stopped too many times because of my light. Hi I have a similar issue I change the ballast and the ignitor and it worked all day yesterday to I have no low beam. So the ballast and ignitor is bran new the sent me a bulb with the package and like I said no light today can u please help me

My light when turn on flashing and turn off. with a bit of luck if I accelerate while I turn on and off the light, it starts to blink and stabilizes, but I have to accelerate it several times at 4000 rpm. Perhaps you could tell me if the problem comes from ignitor or ballast

I'm guessing you're using an aftermarket bulb..? I've seen this many times by purchasing cheap bulbs off amazon/ebay. Go with the factory bulbs. They're more expensive but the quality is excellent.

Great video! I drive a 2011 Mazdaspeed 3 with OEM HID lights. I'm starting to notice the lights slightly flicker when I have my turn signals on. Sometimes I notice a slight flicker when driving. Is this a sign my ballasts are starting to fail?
Can I install an aftermarket ballast in place of the OEM Matsushita's? I was thinking of using 35w Morimoto's. Not sure if I can do this though, as those ballasts wouldn't mount to the underside of the headlight assembly like the stock pieces.
Have you changed the HIDs before? It sounds like the bulbs may be aftermarket rather than OEM. Aftermarket bulbs don't last nearly as long. Regarding the ballast, I couldn't tell you for sure. I tend to use OEM on HID units. It's more expensive but they're the correct part(s).

Turns out my alternator is bad. Voltage regulator is failing; it has a diode ripple.

I'm having issues with my passenger head light.. it will light up when I turn head lights on but then soon after maybe 30 seconds later the head light goes dead. do you think it would be the ignitor wire or the ballast?

thank for the video. i resently got the ballast from amazon and repleaced it but it technically did not work because the light comes on sometimes but most of the time it doesnt. I have to turn it on and off and on again multiple times untill it comes on. do you thing I need that ignitor conection?
+Oscar Fuentes Could be the ignitor, ballast or just the bulb. A friend of mine had a similar problem in his TL and it was due to cheap, non-oem bulbs.

I repleased the whole thing by HID lights and I worked very well... It has been about a year and it is still working well. I got it from mazon for about $50. I got the Kensun HID senon conversion kit. The D2S is the size of my acura tl model 2005.. Look for the right size for your car and you will be totally satisfy

I switched out my driver side headlight bulb. When i turn my lights on it makes a clicking sound but the headlight still will not co me on. What could cause this to happen?
+Rene Botello Assuming you purchased the factory rated (Philips) bulb then it may be the ballast or ignitor wire.
my driver side low & hi beams have stopped working; what is the likely cause? the odds of a bulb & hid failing simultaneously is pretty high; btw there is condensation in the lens. cheers!

I had a blown fuse #1 15A Left headlight igniter unit, replaced it, blown again, my igniter must be fried

I finally removed the front bumper & headlight assembly, replaced the old igniter with a used one, the igniter fuse still blows when i cut on the headlights, next step is to try another used igniter, I do not want to used the igniter from the right side for I dont want to take the chance in damaging a working component.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
@@NVest Sorry I’m 6 years too late. The problem is the water. There is a short circuit downstream of the igniter, probably inside the ballast or in the light itself. The high current is what is blowing the fuse.

i have an Audi A3. my passenger headlight went out i replaced the bulb (HID) and the lights didn't turned on even after i had change it. my turning signal works and day light works. what could it be
+franciscotello tello Did you buy a factory bulb or something aftermarket? The cheaper aftermarket bulbs rarely work and if they do for not very long.
+CarsNToys it was aftermarket. my driver side bulb is working fine. i moved my driver side bulb onto the passanger side and it still didnt work. also another thing before this happened. both lights kept going up and down not staying in the right place. thanks for answering my questions

Gotcha. If the wiring is good, then you could have a bad igniter or hid unit. Try swapping those parts from drivers' to passenger side and see what results you come up with.
hey where can i buy the Igniter from?
I have 06 Mazda three I have been told by the dealership that I have this type of a Bulb. When I’m driving and I step on the brakes the passenger light started flickering like crazy. Then eventually goes out I can turn off my lights completely off and turn them back on and they will come back on again. Is it the Bulb or the ballistics?
I'd start with the bulb first. If you're lucky you may have a loose connection.
CarsNToys Thanks for the reply. Now I’ve been told I need to disconnect the battery and turn the headlights on with the battery off because it could still hold a charge enough to where it could really injure someone. Is that correct?
At the very least, disconnect the battery. Some vehicles recommend removing the fuse, too.
Do you know if 05 headlights fit 08 tls?
I don't believe so. If I remember correctly, the '04-06 have the same headlamps.

Not all. Unfortunately, many modern vehicles require the bumper to be removed. (For HIDs)

In 2024 just the wire it’s $525 and the headlight bulb is $225
Warning some of the replacement parts from Dorman OE solutions does not work they are shorter than the original
