I saw Ronnie play with Kevin in the 90's and Kevin threw an ollie oop pass and it was so high I thought there's no way Ronnies going to catch it and the whole crowd jumped up (And I didn't) and all I saw was his hands grabbing the ball and slamming it in. This man was THE most exciting and naturally talented player I have ever seen to come out of Chicago. He was as a sophomore in high school rated ahead of Kobe Bryant and more exciting to watch as well. This man was way too talented to not play in the NBA. I thought he was more talented than Kevin as well. America missed a real gem in this Chi-town Legend

I was a sophomore in high school in Chicago and I remember the hype surrounding Ronnie Fields and it's a shame what happened and how quickly it fell apart for him. I'm glad he didn't let it drag him further into descent and was able to maintain himself.

Fantastic video and story. I covered Ronnie in the 1995 Nike Invitational in Las Vegas. He came here the same week Kobe Bryant starred in adidas' Big Time Tournament. I've told this story about Ronnie to so many people, and used the same lead as this video, in regards to Michael Jordan. Glad someone took the time to put this together.

Great video Bro!!!. You told the story about R. Fields just as I remember it. I'm a Chicago native and I attended the high school (Thornton Township 94-98) that beat KG and Ronnie Fields in the state tournament. Ronnie was a BAD dude back then, No one could stop him. That was sad day to hear that he was involved in a car accident and suffered those injuries. After that I honestly thought he would never play bball again.

I was at that Illinois Christmas tournament in Peoria IL where Ronnie Fields dunked over that player. It was a local Peoria highschool product 6'5" Sergio McClain. It was a moment where you wanted to hit the remote rewind button to see if you saw what you thought you saw. Thing about it is Ronnie scored over 40 pts. But in the first half showcased passing and long range jumpers, reserving the highlight reel for the 2nd half. He was amazing.

*Ronnie Fields* was the Most Insanely Gifted, Exciting and Dominant (High School) Player I've ever seen in Person (1995) River City Shootout (Peoria, IL) against A.J. Guyton and Central! What he could do (at his height) was UNBELIEVABLE (but he also was lightning quick) and an Unstoppable Force!

I still say Shannon is the best high school ball player I've ever seen. That gym at East is SO much fun to watch a game. Another one that comes to mind is Marcus Liberty over at King, that would make for a great video.

Mr. Grills , you are delusional to put Shannon Brown in the same breath with Ronnie Fields , absurd. Brown couldn't carry his shoes. And to put Dee and Shannon in comparison with Kevin and Ronnie is insanity. Great players in high school , not in the same class.

Dude could jump. I stood next to him one day. He was not 6"3. More like 6"1. And M. Wright was also on that team as a soph. They lost to a bunch of football players playing basketball at Thorton who was ranked 1 or 2 in the nation along with Peoria Manual. Illinois had great teams that year that beat each other.

Can you do a video on Hook Mitchell? He was a short basketball player dunking over cars in high school in west Oakland California. He played basketball with Gary Payton & Jason Kidd

I used to go to the Rockford Lightning games where Ronnie was like MJ of the CBA. The same league that Earl Boykins played, Bruce Bowen, Smush Parker and several others.

Always wondered what happened to him after that accident. I was like 11-12 years old when KG and Ronnie dominated in the city. Glad to see Ronnie made something of himself but yea, what could've been........

Interesting video about a kid who’s NBA dream never came to be. I happy his life ended well. Too often you see kids like this have a great life playing a sport they love and have it all taken away then they’re life becomes tragic. You should do a piece on Shea Cotton as he was the number 1 ranked player in his class out of Mater Dei high but finished up at Crenshaw high I believe and never made it to the NBA but there was one guy who did that turned out to be the 2nd bless player in that class and it was Stephon Marberry.
