There are powered midi thru boxes that are good to avoid messed up midi due to a power drain. The one I use is the Amptone MIDI Splitter. It runs on plug in power or a 9 volt battery for portability. I use rechargeable batteries(including 9 volt) which has saved a lot of money over the years. Thanks for another cool video.
Nice one Todd! I just saw this pop up when looking for korg gadget videos. I just purchased a korg nanokey studio for the iPad, and gadget seems like a natural choice because all of the gadgets are already mapped which is nice. I already have some awesome synths on there, but I think if I get gadget I'd have more than I'd need for a long time. You've totally sold me based on the fact that it can integrate well and affordably into a hardware setup with great midi possibilities. I'm going to try this on my Behringer D too!
Dude, using a USB/MIDI instrument as a USB - 5 pin converter is genius!! Now, if you want to record the audio of the Behringer or Blofeld back into Gadget, can you just use a USB audio interface and set the audio tracks up using the Zurich Gadget? 👍
Thanks so much for this, I've been messing around with MIDI interfaces and cables up until seeing this. Didn't occur to me that I could control my Behringer Crave directly through USB with Taipei, guess I should have RTFM!!
Man, I wish the Peak would send midi thru with its USB! I can control the Peak with the iPad going in with a usb cable but I can't use the 5 pin midi thru to other synths. So my 1300.00 synth can't but your apparently the Behringer can. lol
Also kind of wondering what exact USB interface that is, could you share? Also what about joining up a midi keyboard into that USB hub and playing the instrument ?

Your setup is sick, the op-1 just chillin in the corner
Nice one Todd!

You can use a iRig midi and just use 5 pin
Can I do this with circuit I know I can with the midi din but can I with usb?
Also kind of wondering what exact USB interface that is, could you share? Also what about joining up a midi keyboard into that USB hub and playing the instrument ?
Thanks, Todd
Glad it helped !!
Todd I have a Waldorf Blofeld, no model D, can I use the blofeld like you use the model D as the usb to midi.
I'd have to look into is blofeld acts the same way and get back to you, Not 100% sure, usb can act different from synth to synth
Oooohhhh that's how it's done
=)
Nice! Question about the Behringer if you don't mind. Is it possible to run audio through it's filter?
Would this work with a usb audio interface cable? Plugged directly from the iPad to a synth?
Question. Would it be possible to do this the other way? So I want to be able to have external hardware sync the iPad?
Lessons from Todd
Glad it helped
so,on a live-act,how long can u play the ipad?
Forever if it has a power source
No power source, pure battery. Would have to test but I'd want a power source for my iPad when playing live.
I kind of think you should sing with your voice
