    Penelope your quilt is looking so good. I admire your hand quilting like you are as I haven't the patience yet. Off to the long arm quilter at the moment. Your other quilts show so much love, imagination and care as you can remember and talk about each one and why it was made. Take care xx

      Yes, my quilts are usually made for a reason and when you hand quilt they do become your babies! Enjoy yourself at the long arm quilters. It will be great too. xx

    Thankyou so much Pene. I’ve been quilting for years (self taught) and have always struggled with pinning the whole thing and the quilting it and, yes, I always get wrinkles on the back! Your way is so much more sensible and I will always do mine this way in future. Your last quilt with the embroideries so beautiful. Take care and love to Pete. Xx

      So pleased to have helped. It stands to reason that quilting will move the fabric but it took me a few years to realise that I was unpinning and moving it up! Love passed on. xx

    Good morning, Pene. I love the quilt, simple but effective. My lovely bestie is coming for a crafting day today. I'm going to put the videos on again to show her. She inherited all her mum in laws crafting and quilting supplies. We're thinking of doing something together. Sharing our skills and strengths. My hands are troubling me at the moment. Thankfully, I've got a rheumatology appointment next week.
    As always, it's lovely to spend time with you. Hopefully, one day we'll meet in person. X

    Thank you Pene, a genius idea to quilt an area at a time , I so dislike basting, tried everything & always end up thread basting, which takes hours and is back breaking. I hand quilt too so this is perfect. Definitely going to do this lap quilt - no matching seams, hooray, I always end up with mismatched seams, cut off corners etc - an American lady taught me years ago, & made me undo my blocks so many times, the fabric disintegrated & nearly put me off for life! so hand piecing here I come. Thank you so much, your calm gentle teaching is balm to the soul.❤

    Lovely quilt. The circle quilting gave me the idea of how to quilt the next quilt im planning. Its a scrappy quilt, too big to quilt on my machine, and i just couldn't get started worrying about how i would quilt it. Now i know. Thank you!

    Thanks Pene, I'm enjoying this so much. So far I've got all my pieces cut out ready to sew (as per tutorial number 1) and can't wait to see how it looks all sewn together in strips. It'll take a while for me to get done but have learnt so much from your kind calm teaching methods. Thank you very much. P.s. I love your jumper, I made the Jay sweater last year and I love it. All the best to you & Pete ❤

    It was so helpful, watching you quilt is such a relaxed way. From American quilt books I have always got the idea of tiny stitches as though we are still using little bit of wool
    for wadding, that need to be held down. Your big stitches are very liberating & perfectly fine for the wadding available today. My next quilt will have big stitiches !

    • @penelopeschinwag
      @penelopeschinwag  2 місяці тому

      Thanks for that Marty, I wondered how my stitches would be received! For me it means I can carry on quilting and I love using the different threads now which would be impossible for small stitches. Look forward to your next quilt!

    It was so enjoyable watching your quilting process. Quilting is currently at the top of my crafting list. I was first fascinated by the tiny hand stitches, but as a quilt then took me a couple of years and I had lots more quilt ideas than that, I learned to quilt on my home machine. But watching and listening to your thought process about quilting this quilt makes me want to have a go at the big stitches and maybe even combine them with machine quilting. Yours turned out so pretty! I totally agree about safety pinning rather than the spray. I used it for a while, but with the warning about good ventilation I knew it wasn't good for me, and I had several mishaps with creases forming on the underside, when using spray. With pins you can make adjustments as needed and I don't have that problem anymore.

    • @penelopeschinwag
      @penelopeschinwag  2 місяці тому +1

      Combining the two, machine and hand sounds interesting. Anything goes nowadays don't you think. We don't need rules for creating something we love. I found myself saying the stitches don't even need to be even! But it's true. I don't 'show' my quilts and even if I did, well.... I'm sounding the rebel now! I'm so glad you move your pins. Pinning the whole quilt in one go just doesn't work for me and to keep unpinning and moving them is such a bother. The spray sounds wonderful, but it isn't! Carry on quilting,...!!

    I was quilting along with you! I've quilted both small stitches and now larger stitches with variagated aurofil. Larger stitches are very on trend at the moment and I'm very happy about that!! X

      So am I, it's what makes me happy now and means I can carry on quilting. Going through three fabrics with a tiny needle and tiny stitches seemed the norm but now I think anything goes. So pleased you were quilting along! x

    Good to see you Pene and such a great video. I find it best to watch someone explain the processes and you did it perfectly. Your quilt looks lovely and as you say, it doesn't matter about the size of the stitches, it's just your work. No quilting police around! Thanks for all the helpful information you willingly shared. Hi Pene, I love to watch you, I find your podcasts very calming and love your relaxed approach. You have inspired me to try hand quilting. I love the quilt with the small embroideries, do you remember where the embroideries are from please, many thanks and best wishes to you and Pete.

      The embroideries are from The Birdhouse Patchwork Designs - Heartstrings Quilt. I sent off for the embroidery patterns but decided to make a simple quilt - just sashed as you saw. Thanks for joining me. xx

    Well…what an amazing episode. It’s really giving me confidence to start my first quilt having never crafted anything before. I wont count the unfinished apron from when I was 11 years old as that was over 50 years ago! Thank you for breaking it down into bite size pieces. Im going to go back to part one and pluck up the courage to start…watch this space.

    Thank you for showing us how to quilt. It’s beautifully hand stitched and all of your quilts are like pieces of art because they are so individual. Funnily enough I was sorting out my bookcase earlier today and was flicking through my quilting books on how to quilt but there is no better way than to be shown like you have done for us today. I’m glad you’re happy with your jumper it’ suits you. Regards to Pete. Take care both of you. 😊
