    It's gonna take people a while till they realize that Cadillac CAN compete with german rivals, I currently have a 2014 CTS and believe me it's amazing! the handling, the smooth ride, not to mention I get so many compliments on how sexy it looks.

      I must agree , I own a MB and it looks like nothing compared to the Caddy and it is slow as Fuc.. I really wish I would have waited .

      I have to 2014 CTS and very pleased with it's performance. I've driven the CTS Coupe, ATS Sedan and on my 3rd Caddy. No problems.

      I also have the cts sport wagon and its an amazing experience. I have owned over 30 vehicles and in my opinion the only other car that I equally enjoyed was the S500

    I think the presenter/reviewer is forgetting that he is driving a Cadillac of the 2010's and not one of the 80's or 90's. It is now been bumped up to be a premium brand like it was always ment to be! So the price tag is not bad at all. If it was a bmw or benz he would say that it is a exceptional price and everyone should get one!

    Tom should do more in front of the camera like this. He's not bad at it. About the car, I just think it's cool that Cadillac finally makes cars that can be mentioned in the same sentence with BMW and Audi. Good job GM.

    BTW, anyone else notice that most new GM cars, the rear wheel just seems way too small in proportion to the rest of the rear end of the car?

    Excellent review. Just excellent! Well done! And I dig the ATS, too. Both the sedan and coupe are very cool. Id go for the AWD version given the 4 seasons in my area.

    Hells yeah Tom! Nice Review! I think if I were going to get a caddy I would go for the ATS. I just would want the sedan and a v-sport model or hell why not just the ATS-V whenever that comes out.

    Why are people judging the car without testing driving or even see the car in person simply just because it's "American"

    • @Altair0Zack
      @Altair0Zack 10 років тому +1

      because of the reputation american cars have in europa specially germany and long times many of the things were right and some still are for example: fuel consumption and now not specially with this car but with a dodge i drove this sommer brake feeling headlamps quietness and in germany really important ride at high speed ... you knew the saturn astra ?? here in germany it's called the opel astra ... got one gm car feels scary at 120 mph ... it jumps at every bump and is loud as hell also fuel consumption is crape and because of only 5 gears it's revving at 5900 rpm ... :/

    New Cadillacs are way better than the ones from the past. One word: chassis. The ATS platform is one some serious chassis, and will be host to the new Camaro and more. I like the design of the ATS, good performance, slightly cheaper than comparable BMW, etc. But when I see that tachometer..... it's like Saturn or something... not nice, and I could never make peace with looking at that.

    Great review and great car. And LOL at those saying that Americans are biased in car reviews. European car reviewers are the most bias around the world, FACT. We give credit were credit is due and Cadillac is right there with the Germans. That really must hurt to the Europeans because you know, "all american cars are crap".

    Very helpful. I didn't even drive the V6 because the 2.0T seems so good. Going to have to take another look. One thing to note is BMW reliability and cost to repair is horrible (I had a 335). Of course, Lexus blows all others away in reliability, which is why the IS is what I'm shopping against the ATS.

    Funny to see everyone making fun of the ats. I have had European cars before.. (Audi, BMW) Swore off them years ago... They were garbage. WAY to unreliable. I sat in the ats expecting it to be crap but it wasn't at all. It is a fantastic car and anyone who judges it before they drive it is a moron.

    Of the ones you named in the price category I have to go
    1)BMW 4
    2)ATS Coupe
    3)A5
    even though the 4 is the most expensive and probably over priced for what you get compared to the others, it is just downright gorgeous, the A5 is classically attractive, and the ATS is meh but I want a V6 rather than the 2.0 that comes in the A5.

    "I dont understand the obsession with competing with BMW. They make good driving cars but they aren't very comfortable or serene. Why couldn't Cadillac just focus on making the most beautiful, elegant, luxury machines? Think Rolls Royces for the working man. BMW focused on a niche and dominated. Cadillac needs to identify theirs. When you say Cadillac to someone today what comes immediately to mind? Ultimate Driver's car? Ultimate tech car? Anything? They're truthfully a bit of a hodgepodge which is a damn shame for a historic and storied brand."
    Response to a CNET style review of the ATS coupe by a fellow carscoops blogger! I think it's pretty spot on ...

    Good review. Very fluent, good presentation and good editing. But I wouldn't agree with the verdict - but nevertheless: it's always funny to see Americans think their cars can actually compete with the Germans. It's kind of cute ;)

      @FastLaneDaily  10 років тому +39

      Tom Here - Thanks for the critique! I just want to point out that I am a BMW (2010 128i sport package 6spd manual) owner- Cadillac has made a serious effort to go after "the Germans" and I think they finally pulled it off in a short period of time. The 235i is enjoyable to drive as much as a Toyota Camry. Sure its fast and handles corners really well but the car completely lacks any soul and there's no gratification coming from my car to that. My 128i has more passion when it comes to handling and doesn't need the power from the N54 twin turbo v6 like in the 135i. The naturally aspirated engine is enough to do some serious damage (I'm on my third set of tires under 40k miles, its getting annoyingly expensive). Cadillac has followed that same formula of making a car drive with some soul and really rewards the driver while BMW is now gunning for top Luxury Marque and has lost its ways when it comes to focusing on drivers who want the "ultimate driving machine." Cadillac is on its way to take that torch from them.

    • @skylinetrans
      @skylinetrans 10 років тому

      Things might have changed for cadillac recently but every gm car i have ever owned including cadillacs was garbage & always broke down.
      Also bmw has a higher perceived value regardless of whether its true or not (iphone vs android argument) for that reason alone even if they are equal it should cost more not to mention the fact that cadillac has inflated the prices on all its newer cars to be the same as foreign competitors. Just my opinion but i personally perfer owning a bmw & am willing to bet most people will take the bmw over cadillac for the same price every day of the week.
      i own 5 series which has never given me any issues. i have owned an escalade suburban tahoe & Dts.

      Pendenque John With all due respect, you make no sense. As to my previous reply, sure, you can have an opinion on the looks of a vehicle when you see it, but when a MB C-Class "looks and feels better," it makes me question; better than what? Because he/she has certainly not sat and/or driven in an ATS Coupe to compare it with a C-Class in terms of build quality and road feel. I haven't even been in an ATS Coupe. . .

    • @JadaKingdom971
      @JadaKingdom971 10 років тому

      Evan Ganske Ah well I understand what you mean with the "feels better". The poster didn't precise his mind though so I don't know. Something could "feel good to the eye" or could have a "better aesthetic feel than another" (well obviously I'm pushing it there) but for sure if he was talking about "driving feel" (to call it so) then your reply was justified.

    For 38k I would put that on an audi, mb, or bmw because I know they have always made great cars. But I wouldn't put it down on a Cadillac

    So the V6 is only 0,1 of a second faster to 60....either that's wrong or the V6 is clearly not worth it

    ATS may be faster then a comparable engine 4 series on paper but we all know bmw liesss. GM V6 maybe great but it's got nothing on the N55 or N20 for that matter. Anyways I've never been a fan of the ruler styling. How about the M235i for 46K please.

    The worst engine lineup I've ever seen for Cadillac. At least with BMW's 3 series lineup you get a real tiered selection to go along with your ten grand premium over base model. The 328i has 240 hp out of a turbo 4 and the 335i has 300hp out of a turbo 3.0. Much more logical if you're paying that much more.

    Cadillac makes nice cars. I wonder why they never catch the Germans or Japanese. They are still a domestic brand while the others are sold globally. Cadillac has tried for ever to get some market shares in Europe and Asia with no success. They need to market their cars in a different way or do something other than usual to make it happen.

      People fear the RELIABILITY,I like the look of the ATS but I'll wait a few years to see if there are any Engine problems or transmission problems like the early CTS.If not too many problems I might try one,until then I doubt people will rush & cost of maintenance is not low on a caddy.

      the big problem is that fuel consumption isn't considert that important by american car manufactures while here in europa it's very important ... also american cars have the reputation to be unreliable (not saying that its true) but there are some things like the ride and quietness at high speeds (means 100 mph + ) are things that european cars are definitely better at so thats why they are favorite.
