Cars are still about passion, and there's an emotional side of car buying The ATS steering wheel has buttons which negate having to use the touch-screen for certain common functions(thankfully). ATS has adjustable magnetic shocks, & since the BMW fails to excite and entertain like the ATS can, there's plenty of reason to choose an ATS over the BMW It's never black & white. Car buying is a form of self-expression, the right car for me won't be the right car for you. Test drive everything first :)
Thanks for being a fan of what we do! - Yes, we work very hard on our videos and do it with less budget than most everyone else doing pieces like this. We appreciate your understanding and hope you'll share our work with many others. Thanks again!
Just got a 2014 ATS with 34,000 miles for 16k... nothing is wrong with it, it was Owned by an elderly couple. Literally the greatest deal! This car is so nice
I love my 15 ATS, it’s easy to work on, parts are affordable, and easy for any shadetree mechanic to work on. The 2.0t is the better motor option, and with the help of ZZP, and a few thousand dollars, you can easily get 400+ hp to the wheels. Cadillac Que is terrible... no way around it. But the drive, the feeling, the steering, and just feels like your riding on rails. The car is amazing, and now is affordable to even low income. I recommend this car as it is different, it’s beautiful, has a fairly big aftermarket option. Shove some money under the hood and the rubber, and it will feel as if you have a 60k+ sports car!
Thanks for saying that! We really appreciate you thinking of us as TV quality - that is definitely our intention. Meanwhile, you can hear about our personal cars in our FAQ#3 video. Thanks again for watching and be sure to share our show with others!
My ats 3.6 premium in black has been in my possession for 3 years and i will trade it in for the exact same car in a 2018 this summer. Its just that great of a car. With the magnetic shocks, and limited slip differential and heads up display and running it in sport mode with the traction control disengaged this car is a beast.
Facts, but what I’ve done to mine, I left the stock exhaust, but all you hear is the turbo. I don’t like the sound of 4 bangers, but I love turbo spool and blow offs.
@@nastynotch8314 10-4. Mines the 3.6 with premium performance pkg. Got one hellova growl for a v6! All blacked out with 19s. Ats v in about 6 months! Can't wait
All of the cars in this test are the 6 cylinder versions. 335i BMW, ATS V6, and IS 350. It's also possible to compare these cars as 4 cylinders - all three are offered with smaller engines. We chose to compare the 6s, and in that form all 3 are around $50k. We hope you'll stick around for the whole comparison with wrapup thoughts next week. Thanks for watching!
I honestly don't understand why you two aren't on Top Gear USA. Top Gear USA isn't even enjoyable to watch. EverydayDriver would be a great hit on TV. You guys deserve a contract. I love this show...
I like how good psychology is hidden under these video's. First compere three cars - best in segments - BMW, worst in segment - Lexus and ATS, because they want to make you believe that it is as good as best. In this video at the beginning you said all bad things, and at the end say all good things. Majority of viewers forget beginning and in their mind stays image that ATS is as good as best in the segment. Similar strategy you can see in motortrend video about cadillac comparison. :)
I feel like despite the 3 series losing the dynamic crown... it's still the better car in 99% of driving If I lived on a mountain... I'd get an Elise... or a motorcycle If I commute... I want a car that's fun, but comfy and easy to use. With good fuel economy and grunt. I think BMW realized this too.
I think he is referring to the dinosaurs in his toy bin, must have been playing with them last week. You guys put out such informative and high quality videos, I would honestly love to see more but understand that they take time and effort. I’m willing to wait that time and give thumbs up for every video, wish more people knew about this awesome channel.
I'm still excited for the next video and wrap up. This is my demographic and you guys are doing a great job. I'm not sure if I want to buy any of them new though, but it gives me hope for off lease.
Really looking forward to the Lexus review. I noticed how Paul said numerous of times that the ATS handled better than the BMW; I am curious to see where the Lexus stacks up.
I know you guys have been doing tons of reviews around the M3, but if you guys ever get the chance, I would love to hear what you guys think about the M3 vs. C63 AMG vs Lexus ISF. I'm thinking this is a likely future purchase for me, and it would be awesome to see a video on it.
Hahaaa believe it or not, this competition is good for BMW for them to step their game up. And keeps the market fresh with new sharp cars, but I'm gonna be honest with you and say I'd pick the 3 anyways.
Great review. I love the engine noise, but the exterior still does not do it for me, and I have been in Cadillacs; their interiors don't do it for me. But I am happy to hear that the handling is better than its competition.
Yes, the G37S Sedan 6MT is an amazing car, and totally competitive in this segment. I own one, and I adore it. However, it already has one foot in the grave. Infiniti fans are waiting for the Q50S review. Hoping that EverydayDriver can get their hands on one.
Coming from someone who owns an ATS, CUE really isn't hard to use at all, unless no offense you're armless. It is HELLA fun to drive, but it really does lack space in the backseat. I had the Lexus IS before this car and I definitely miss the interior of the IS more, but loving the exterior of the ATS.
The manufacturers are targeting the same performance market demo, yet have three separate design ethos. That's why one won't "win" over the other - people buy the car that resonates with them. Brand loyalty, looks and buzz sell cars as much as engineering.
This is the first in depth review I've watched on the ATS and it sounds brilliant, at least for enthusiasts who need 4 doors. That it feels so good through the corners is a huge plus in my opinion. Thanks for another great review! Keep it up!
I have a '17 ATS 2.0T which provides plenty of power. The 3.6 does have a tiny bit more punch than the 2.0T, but for me it doesn't justify the $5K+ mark up. But either is much better than the 2.5 four cylinder.
This car does seem good for what it is, I give Caddy credit for working this hard, but I'm the kind of guy that buys cars because of their drivetrains. The BMW to me just seems to have a better, more romantic drivetrain that I would enjoy much more than just decent suspension.
I just bought a brand new ATS. I love it. I looked at BMW, was not impressed. The ATS has an adjustable suspension. And yes, not much back seat room. But it's just me, so I'M fine with that. The interior us much nicer than the BMW. Also, look at the specs. The ATS out performs the BMW and Jaguar XF and XJ of thr same class.
It's hard to get a grip on Cadillac ATS. Other testers say it rides very hard and jumps over even small imperfections on the road and jumps sideways if that happens in a corner. It simply has a sportier ride thanks to rock hard suspension. Also the interior is way below the quality of the Germans, yes it's shiny and look cool but that's it, as Matt Farah said in his review. All say chassis is great. But the engine, transmission and cabin quality is below the others. Is it a correct assumption?
The people demanded that this segment become a bit bigger...BMW chose to bloat. The problem with that is that the 3 series has had a target on its' back for YEARS...and now, everybody else is catching up. The ATS needs maybe a little better interior materials...and to ditch Cue ASAP.
Basically the ATS needs to get rid of the "CUE" system, and give it more grunt. Still, whata great job GM did coming right out of the box. I hope there's a ATS-V coming soon! :)
I dont know why, but i have the feeling that the next generation on the 3 serie will by amazing... I'm not a fan of the F30 ti doesn't feel like a BMW. They even changed the signature grill, but I guess we got to get use to it. I bet that the next generation wich should be around 2017 will be phenomenal. BTW I love me E90 335I
Dennis The Menance Cadillac doesn’t make a car like that anymore since they discontinued the XTS. Cadillac thinks everyone wants an American BMW fighter.
I would take the ATS out of these three. In my opinion it has the most handsome exterior and interior. And I realize materials aren't up to par, but the design looks better. I also love the sound of its V6. The exterior is the sweet spot though. It is such a fine looking car. The Lexus is a bit futuristic which looks okay. The BMW is just boring to look at. Looking forward to the Lexus review next week.
These guys are TOO critical! The color of the damn interior has nothing to do with the performance of the car. People, test drive the car and THEN make your decision. Don't just be taking critic's word for it. Now if the critics are gonna BUY the car for you, then let them choose it!
My main complaint with all current Cadillacs is the color schemes of the interiors. This is the place one would spend every day in, so color matters, and gray with brown doesn't cut it. On dealer lots most have black interiors which become crud catchers. In a crowded segment, every aspect matters.
the 928xi is turbo charged, but used to be a 6 cyl NA, where the ATS is 6 cyl NA. so it is a fair comparison. also, if you get all the features in that ATS and put it in the 928xi, it comes out to 50k as well. that caddy is an amazing car. there is nothing "shitty" about it. the sad truth is that americans are building better cars than they did just a few years ago while the germans haven't budged anywhere from where they were 6+ years ago.
I prefer cars that have a nice engine and crappy handling to a car with crappy powertrain/transmission and nice handling. IDK, for normal use 90% of the time the engine is what keeps people excited, the handling only comes into play on a mountain road. Of course, I'd best prefer an all around good car to either of the two above choices but if I had to have one I'd much rather like a sharp engine and a transmission that delivers power quickly and responsively. So to me, ATS is a no go.
The ats has the best interior out of the three cars. The paddle shifter in the ats are made of magnesium. The interior has real carbon fiber last time I checked neither of the other two has it and the seats are italian leather
yea the caddy looks really nice, somehow tho i would take the lexus, i dont like the looks form the front but i guess (or better say hope) it will grow on me with time :P
I’ve always liked the looks of the ATS, and that you could actually get one in a 6-speed manual. Unfortunately, these got some negative reviews and I think had reliability issues, and their values dropped like a rock. Makes sense to buy one used, maybe a CPO if you can still find one, but I’m glad I never bought one new.
Matt Farah thought it was a mystery how people could say the cabin had the same quality as German cars. He thought the materials felt cheap trough out the cabin and the CUE system, where almost every single function is, was just awful. It was designed cool but that was it.
The Caddy just looks like it's trying to hard, to many details that are shiny and that don't add up well. Not a huge fan of the F30 3 series but it would be my choice over the competition.
"Americanized" = > nonsense. For some reason, the American car journalism has been focusing on "sporty handling" more than on other things, but in Germany, BMW has been hearing nothing but "not as comfortable as Mercedes-Benz" over the past decades. I'm pretty sure it gets tiresome to hear that after some time. So yes, they turned the base 3-series into a floaty, comfortable cruiser. The M sport suspension is not available yet, but when it comes, that's going to be the choice for enthusiasts.
BMW is getting lazy. They think people gonna buy it anyways believing it is always the best to drive when the competitions are really getting up there already. I definitely will consider IS and ATS before 3 series for better value of the ATS or reliability of the IS
Matt Farah is very immature and full of himself. I disagree with his opinion on cars quite often, usually because he's just wrong. I even had an argument with him on his own ATS review and my comments got more thumbs up than his...
alot of things they say are very contradictory like at first he said that the quality and materials were better than he expected then he said that the materials were not great
Martin Espinoza i honestly can't see anything wrong with the materials used. this is a Cadillac it is suppposed to give you bmw/ Mercedes performance and luxury but at a much lower price. that being said you have to compromise somewhere and i would much rather have an ats then be one of those 3 series snobs that double park Every chance they get and fell like they are better then other because of their car
ironsaber2 That's exactly why they complain, they don't want Cadillac to be a luxury car with compromise, they want it to be the best it can be and it just isn't because of cost cutting.
well we will see what the ct 6 will be like. at the end of the day though gm interiors are getting better and their cars in general are getting more and more reliable with each new model. yeah they still have their faults but compared to gm 4 or 5 years ago these things are light years better
The exterior lines are clean and respectable. Very Cadillac, and yet not overboard. The interior though... somebody beat that interior with a pimp cane. All that glossy plastic and chrome is a total deal breaker. I don't care how great of a driver's car the ATS is (meh), the interior is a joke. No class what-so-ever. They should spend some time with Lexus interiors and learn a few things about style.
I don't understand sedans with nigh unusable back seat room. My friends and I are all tall. If I can't fit behind myself relatively comfortably, I'm not buying it (a sedan, not cars in general.) CUE seems to be the rule-out on this car. All I typically want in user controls is AC and a decent sound system. I would never buy this car; they made it far too difficult to execute core functions. Give me three knobs and I'm good to go. My smart phone will take care of the rest.
Too many shiny bits on that Cadillac. Full on bling-fest should be an option, but it shouldn't come as standard because some buyers might not be rappers or the like and might prefer a more discreet interior.
When buying, it’s better to check about the prices of parts especially if you’re buying a used car. Brand new, I’d drop Lexus from that list. It’s too gimmicky and Asian sporty/luxurious vehicles aren’t really solid. I’d consider Mitsubishi over Lexus in terms of the sporty side. Audi, BMW, Merc, it looks like you want a luxurious but performance lineup. Lexus IS more sporty than luxurious. If you want to buy luxury based on comfortability and gadgets, I say go for a test drive. But you’d lack what really sets luxury apart from basic and that is likeableness. You want others to be impressed by what you drive. Lexus isn’t that. Yes, it has good interior but will people be impressed? No. It’s like driving a super expensive Camry. Cadillac is like driving a Chevy but people don’t see it that way. They see it as a caddy. Same with BMW being just a VW but people don’t see it as VW but they see it as BMW. It’s up to you if you want to buy a Lexus though. Don’t be afraid to buy old models as well. Remember, it’s about the condition of the parts. There hasn’t much big leaps in terms of design for these brands both hardware and interior and exterior aesthetics. You can get these cars for less than half their original price with around 50k mileage. Or you could pay double or 3x for practically the same car. I would only worry about the software if you were to buy old cars such as these models. Other than that, certainly you shouldn’t neglect buying a cheaper car.
BMW lost their way, the new 3 series is to Americanized it's bloated and floaty(not to mention ugly). Ironically the Cadillac is the opposite and a much better car as a result.
Omg, so funny to watch a 10 year old review...BUT my opinion of my 3.6 V6 is still almost the same, even if it does not have the magnaride, still a beast on backroads, and I still love the NA V6 grunt! AWD is a bit heavier also I think, but never been stuck in the snow either and we have a lot of it :D Powertrain could be better yes....the agility makes up for it 🤗
Cars are still about passion, and there's an emotional side of car buying
The ATS steering wheel has buttons which negate having to use the touch-screen for certain common functions(thankfully). ATS has adjustable magnetic shocks, & since the BMW fails to excite and entertain like the ATS can, there's plenty of reason to choose an ATS over the BMW

I am seriously thinking of getting the ats. The Lexus is gorgeous on the inside but that face is just ghastly. It's grotesque to put it nicely.
Great segment! I'm a big Cadillac fan so glad the ATS and Cadillac in general are becoming super competitive with the models from BMW, Audi, MB, etc.
7:38 minutes in never,never land.
I even had an argument with him on his own ATS review and my comments got more thumbs up than his...
alot of things they say are very contradictory like at first he said that the quality and materials were better than he expected then he said that the materials were not great
ironsaber2 it makes sense if you understand that people expect the materials to be _horrible_
Martin Espinoza
i honestly can't see anything wrong with the materials used. this is a Cadillac it is suppposed to give you bmw/ Mercedes performance and luxury but at a much lower price. that being said you have to compromise somewhere and i would much rather have an ats then be one of those 3 series snobs that double park Every chance they get and fell like they are better then other because of their car
ironsaber2 That's exactly why they complain, they don't want Cadillac to be a luxury car with compromise, they want it to be the best it can be and it just isn't because of cost cutting.
well we will see what the ct 6 will be like. at the end of the day though gm interiors are getting better and their cars in general are getting more and more reliable with each new model. yeah they still have their faults but compared to gm 4 or 5 years ago these things are light years better
I remember watching Part 1 when the dinosaurs were still alive.
I don't understand sedans with nigh unusable back seat room. My friends and I are all tall. If I can't fit behind myself relatively comfortably, I'm not buying it (a sedan, not cars in general.)
CUE seems to be the rule-out on this car.
BMW disappoints...again. i cant believe i wont have another bmw to buy once my m3 e46 retires.
I have been thinking and looking at A 4 door sedan Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Lexus. Now Cadillac Mmm. Cadillac. I see that this is an old video.
TREYDAY1982 SAYS great review!!!!!!
Alpha chassis ❤
Yo
BMW lost their way, the new 3 series is to Americanized it's bloated and floaty(not to mention ugly). Ironically the Cadillac is the opposite and a much better car as a result.
Omg, so funny to watch a 10 year old review...BUT my opinion of my 3.6 V6 is still almost the same, even if it does not have the magnaride, still a beast on backroads, and I still love the NA V6 grunt! AWD is a bit heavier also I think, but never been stuck in the snow either and we have a lot of it :D Powertrain could be better yes....the agility makes up for it 🤗
Luv the caddy. F the bimmer. Merica !
you do live up to your username lol
