    Hi Leila! I really appreciate you taking the time to show how you build your template! ☺️ I use Google Sheets as well to track my budget: I have 12 tabs (one per month) where I break down day by day how much money is going in/out. Being able to link cells from a previous tab is very useful to carry over the amount to the next month. It is very detailed but it really helped me when I needed to get out of debt to see how much extra money I could use for repayments.

    Thanks for this. You're really clear and thorough. Quick question though: What's a "sinking fund"? 🧐

    • @PersonalFinancewithLeila
      @PersonalFinancewithLeila  5 місяців тому

      Thank you! A sinking fund is just saving for specific things. For example, I have a sinking fund for travel, car insurance, car maintenance, gifts, emergency, etc. You can either add to them on a monthly basis and use them as needed (that's what I do for gifts) or you can save to it until you reach a certain amount to be used later (for example. maybe you need $2K to buy a new home appliance so you keep saving until you reach $2K and then stop).
      Hopefully that helps!

      You definitely could! Then if they're being reinvested you could also record that in your spending. I receive dividends and then they just automatically get reinvested so it would be a lot of work to keep up with it all. I do keep track of all that on a monthly/annual basis, but just prefer not to include it in my monthly budget!

      So I use the same tab for 1 full year. I copy paste the budget one column away from the current one (to the right). Then I change that whole column color to a dark gray as a divider. Hopefully that makes sense!
      By the end of the year I have 12 months of budgets on one tab that I can scroll through horizontally
