Chicago is a really nice city, I've been living here for 9 years now. What you see in the news happens everywhere. Chicago is a city filled with people from all around the world. Hard-working people. I love it, Summer is so much fun. Fall is amazing.

Chicago is SO MUCH more affordable to live in than New York which makes it better... Id choose NYC over Chicago for a visit because NY is so iconic but id rather live in Chicago

In the late 80s and early 90s I worked as a flight attendant with the Former Yugoslav Airlines (now Air Serbia) and flew oftenly to Chicago. We stayed at the Congress Hotel and everything was within walking distance from the hotel. Walked almost every street in downtown. Visited many suburbs. Enjoyed walking by the lake. Admired the view from the Sears Tower. Chicago is defenitely one of the best cities I have visited, if not even the very best. Sophisticated and clean downtown, which offers so many things to do and see. Gorgeous suburbs. Great Universities!!! It is way better than N.Y. to my view. I had plans to move there but, unfortunately, it never happened.
My wife an I play this, so called, Green Card Lottery every year and if ever get selected - we have no doubts of where we would go.

I keep hearing republicans who are paranoid of Obama and the government taking their guns (which is impossible) say that Chicago (a city he lived in) is riddled with crime and has shootings on a daily basis. Judging from this video and these comments, that is garbage.
GameAddict51 I'm not American and I've never visited Chicago in my life, but as far as I know crime in Chicago depends on the neighborhood you're in. There are bad parts of town, just like in any big city around the world. The touristy places, I think, are fine.

I just can't believe that Chicago is a city that is viewed as a very dangerous place, but downtown Chicago is so amazing, nice weather, everything there is just so fucking nice. It's also crazy to think that downtown Chicago is cleaner than NYC.

For a Californian who lived in DuPage County for a decade, I can tell you the cold weather is extremely exaggerated. I wore shorts most of the time in the winter, it was only the cold snaps where the temperature was below zero for a few weeks that I didn't. Chicagoland was a beautiful place to live. Although I despised Chicago because I don't like any big city, I loved the suburbs and the layout. Wheaton was a very pretty place.

Nice presentation! I remember Chicago from before 10 years old when my Dad took me downtown (1950s). Went to school at the Art Inst. during 70s, went downtown a lot, and recall a much smaller city - now it has become much larger with a lot of new buildings!

Real life Gotham City.
Only in the Dark Knight trilogy. There are other parallels, like the corruption and crime, but visually it's too modern, more like how Metropolis is represented in the comics. New York is probably still more how I visualize Gotham City going from the comics and animated series.
And don't get me wrong, this isn't a diss towards Chicago in any way, not a NYC > Chicago post. I'm just saying from a purely visual perspective, I see more Metropolis in Chicago than Gotham City.

+Tim Harris I live in Chicago but love visiting NYC. The major difference is that Chicago has alleys with dumpsters so the garbage isn't piled up on the streets in the afternoon and evening.
You freak in midwrsterners are always throwing out this trash bullshit about NYC....NYC is a mega city with 8 million....Manhattan don't have alleys because its too small for that ...you can't compare back smaller city like Chicago to NYC...NYC is an international mega city like London ..Tokyo ....Chicago don't have enough packed in it to compare it to NYC....of course NYC has lots of trash...it has 5.2 million more people than Chicago...NYC has 3 and a half times more population than Chicago....Chicago don't even have 3 million people...LA surpassed you a few years back...you have 2.8 million...NYC has 8 million plus...yes Chicago has alleys...because it has more space because it has less people....city planners knew Chicago would only have around 3 million or so and built alleys....NYC planners knew more than 100 years ago NYC would boom with a mega million population and saved space by building up with no alleys...so stop comparing your city ain't big enough
It's probably more because when Chicago burnt down in the 1870's it was rebuilt according to a plan that included alleys. The fact remains that Mega cities that I have visited like London and Paris do not have trash stacked up on their sidewalks in the afternoon and evenings. New York does and it looks terrible. That doesn't mean that I don't love visiting it just means that is on nit I can pick where they can do better.

city planners knew that manhattan needed the space and did not build alleys...but the other boroughs have alleys....in a lot of eastcoast. cities people put trash out front....chicago is one of the most boring downtowns....no epic center....like times square.....dundas square in toronto....or picadilly circus in london.....chicago is big but not a true mega city
when one visits nyc you dont stumble on trash in midtown....thats bull...nyc has so many more streets in a grid ....its much more interesting than chicago...nyc dwarfs chicago in everyy way...theater district....fashion district....chinatown....the only thing is that rent is a lot cheaper in chicago and thats because chicago is not a true cultural mega city....chicago is just a big midwest town with lots of skyscrapers...chicago does not have energy....chicago compares good with toronto...not nyc or london
but toronto has a little more energy than chicago...its dundas square looks lije a small times square...toronto is on the eastcoast of canada so it has east coast flavor...the midwest is kind of boring...i like chicago...i lived there...the downtown was a quock quick study...the loop..and mag mile...thats it...so all you chicago people who dont travel...sorry your city aint no new york and dont compare to that massive city on mega city steroids
