I'm 59. You guys do an excellent job. This song is from 1975. This song is about the record industry. The lead singer is Roy Harper, but he's not a band member.. His name will pop up when you get to Led Zeppelin III.
Roy is a great folk rock artist with over 20 studio albums of his own and was great friends and mentor to David Gilmour, Jimmy Page and Kate Bush all icons of 70s music. His song ‘You’ from album, The unknown soldier(1980) features both Gilmour and Kate Bush although the song I think you guys should listen to is ‘Same old rock’ from his 1971 album Stormcock. It features Jimmy Page on acoustic guitar but the thing is how Roy presents acoustic guitar and vocals on that track way back in 1971.
Roger Waters - bass. vocals; David Gilmour - guitar, vocals; Nick Mason - drums, Richard Wright - keyboards. This song guest vocalist - Roy Harper. Pink Floyd was a British progressive rock band, perhaps the definitive prog-rock band. This a deep dive worth every second. Pink Floyd's albums were all recorded gapless and were meant to be listened to continuously. Each song feeds into the next. Try the songs, "Wish You Were Here," "Time," "Comfortably Numb," Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "Dogs," for starters.
The thing about Floyd is they have concept albums and need to be listened to from the beginning till the end. So please listen to the whole album like you did with Steely Dan stuff. This band will blow you away!!

This is progressive. Progressive rock was very popular in the late sixties through the seventies and is still played by many bands today. See: Tool Progressive rock draws its inspiration from nearly every other genre of music. From classical and jazz to rock and roll to the blues. The band "Yes" is in my opinion the best progressive (called prog now) band ever. Check out "Roundabout." It is a good start to the rabbit hole that is progressive rock.
Pink Floyd along with Zep are rabbit holes worth going deep with with. Floyd is another British band with blues roots but most consider classic rock or maybe progressive rock. Not sure there is any band truly like Floyd I suggest Shine on you crazy Diamond next. Parts 1-7 I think. Your mind will be blown. They take their time to enjoy the music and sound. Enjoy. Wish I could experience these bands for the first time again
And you're thinking oh so that's how they sound. Well the next song you play by them is going to sound completely different and it might flip you upside down! Pink Floyd is their own genre, you won't be able to lock them down as to who else they sound like because they don't sound like anyone else and nobody sounds like them!! Try the song "Time" from their "Dark Side of the Moon" album or "Comfortably Numb" from their"The Wall" album and you will see. Sometimes they have extremely long intros to build up to the song which is always worth the wait so don't get impatient! Their musicianship and lyrics are always top of the line
If you are new to Floyd, might I suggest reacting to "comfortably numb" "time " "echoes"(specifically the live at Pompeii version) "high hopes" "pigs""shine on you crazy diamond " and so many others. They have without question one of the greatest back catalogues in music history

@@angelagraves865 If you know anything about the Floyd, They could not do live what they did in the studio, That's part of the reason they were the greatest show on earth !
LOVE Pink Floyd, as a kid, I was (and still am) into Disco; believe it or not, there was a group called ROSEBUD, and they did a disco version of Have A Cigar, which I LOVED; imagine my joy when as a teen I discovered the “real” song; it’s amazing to me how instrumental style, tempo and production can make the same song sound completely different ❤
One of the top British band from the 70's along with Genesis, YES, Bowie, Supertramp... the music is called "progressive rock"... you are amazed because the thing, at that time, some bands were really making music, I mean complex musical structure insired by classical music structure and with deep meaningful lyrics to listen to, not for dancing !!! I just can't wait to listen to your reactions to Animals... this album's music and lyrics will blow your mind even more... I think ! Enjoy 😎
As others have said, you are in for the ride of your life with Pink Floyd-the best band to ever walk this earth. Without reading many comments yet, I am certain that you have been inundated with recommended tunes. I am sure they are all correct as you can't go wrong. I will just say that Dark Side Of the Moon, Wish You Were Here (the album this tune you're reacting to is on), Animals and The Wall are all masterpieces. I personally would add in Meddle to those four, which includes Echoes-a must listen to both from the album and live from Pompeii. Other than Meddle, the other four albums are meant to be heard all at one time. I realize that is a tall order when you're posting YT reactions-but just to let you know, each song from those albums is part of a collective theme. Enjoy!!
hey you're right about this 'easy song' to follow, i wasnt so lucky i had shine on you crazy diamond since its the first song on the album, i was not prepared for the long song back in 97' however form me this 'wish you were here' album is the best ever, darkside is up there too, but my first encounter with PF was that song. so it took about 3 hours to get my head around it
I’m getting old, but we always analyzed songs to the point where we knew the meaning. When this song came on we all said “ fuck the record executives”. Then when “wish you were here” started we all said a Hail Mary to Syd Barrett. Again, I’m older, but damn things once meant a lot more. The fucked up part is that they actually wrote the music that they played, now it’s all performed by someone, written by someone else, and auto tuned. That’s why no one will remember it like this song.
This album is their 1975 follow-up to the legendary, epic-of-all-epics, Dark Side of the Moon. Overall, the album deals with separation, isolation and the pressures put on artists by the music industry that can cause emotional breakdown. This tune in particular is their lament against the nameless, faceless industry execs who care nothing about the artists except for how much money they can make off them. The masterwork "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is a mystical, heart wrenching tribute to their dear friend, founder and former bandmate Syd Barrett. David Gilmour: vocals and guitars Roger Waters: vocals and bass Richard Wright: keys and background vocals Nick Mason: drums Pink Floyd doesn't fit into any one genre, they incorporate many styles, techniques and atmospheric elements into a sound that is uniquely theirs. No other band like them...not even close.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention (and you'll hear this from others) their albums are complete works, with one song leading into the next with no pauses. You can certainly react to individual songs, but many times they don't end like a typical album cut.
Welcome to the journey known as Pink Floyd. Great reaction . You will see with Pink Floyd most songs have long slow introductions to put you in the mood they want you to be in. When you do the song Time.. You will think about your life in a totally different way.
Oh man, you guys have a lot of songs to listen to. I envy you discovering this stuff for the first time. You already have a bunch of great suggestions, I'll request the studio version of "The great gig in the sky". But first, read the back story of the recording with Clare Torry.
All I can say is.... come in here, dear boys, have a cigar, you keep listening to Pink Floyd, your mind's going to go far....... PINK FLOYD IS a life changing event period.
If you ever wondered, the guy on the cover really is on fire. You already know everything there is to know probably, but yeah, their music is heavily rooted in blues (as is all of rock n roll), this generation of English kids grew up on Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, all the Kings, Elvis and The Beatles and many more. Pink Floyd (Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, thats who the Pink and the Floyd are) just took that and went somewhere in outer space with it.
How exciting!!! Welcome to Pink Floyd. Every track is more beautiful and amazing than the last. I recommend Time as a next choice, although you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose. Happy listening!
Pink Floyd, formed in 1965; named after two old bluesmen, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Besides Syd Barrett who left in '68 (and that's another story), there's David Gilmour on guitar and vocals, Roger Waters on bass and some vocals, Richard Wright on keyboards and some vocals, Nick Mason on drums. They are hands down one of the greatest bands there ever was. Their album Dark Side of the Moon (came out in '73) stayed on the charts for 741 weeks. That album and Wish You Were Here album (came out in '75) are meant to be listened to in one sitting as the songs flow together, which is why this song sounds like it ends abruptly. This song is on their Wish You Were Here album. It's about corruption in the music business; guest vocalist Roy Harper. They were considered "progressive" rock, although are really a genre of their own. Their live shows are legendary. You guys are going to love this rabbit hole and that's an understatement.
Stumbled upon your channel just recently gentlemen, and very much enjoying your reactions! Much like Steely Dan, Pink Floyd is basically a genre unto themselves. Psychedelic rock, progressive rock, those might be the closest descriptions. They pioneered many studio tricks and use of electronics to make their amazing sounds. David Gilmour is on my Mount Rushmore of guitar players. You don't get it as much in this song, but his guitar playing is perhaps the most emotive of anyone that's ever played the instrument. You'll see. I do HIGHLY, HIGHLY suggest that when you get to Dark Side of the Moon, one of the best albums ever made, you do it from start to finish. And you have to get the vinyl as you've mentioned with other albums. Pretty much all the tracks run from one right into the other so listening on vinyl is best. This is another rabbit hole to be sure. Enjoy the journey, you're going to LOVE it. Oh, and I will also say, Pink Floyd has pretty much always been best enjoyed while relaxing with some good headphones and a little something to puff on. 😁
Just recently found you, love what you're doing, this is all the stuff my band covers,my best friend and drummer just passed away, first time I met him he said " I've never heard anyone play Since I've Been Loving You so perfectly." We were just kids, I took it so big because he was two years older and a much better drummer than anyone I knew. Im heartbroken over his death, but seeing new people dig good music helps.
Believe it or not, only 4 people make this beautiful music... And it sounds current because good music is timeless... YOu have stumbled on one of the best group of musicians to ever be assembled. And my personal all time favorite band. Black Sabbath, though very different and for different reasons, is a close second, depending on my mood...
Awesome boys..You are definitely on a crash course with pure greatness!! Dark side of the moon.. and Animals along with this album are my go to for Pink Floyd..soon they will be yours also..Shout out from the old Detroit metal head..Keep up the good work..Love your channel!!
Do not rush Floyd. Let it take you. It's a sonic journey that many of us have heard for 40+ years but still listen to. The wall came out when I was 13 and shaped most of my teenage years. One of my top 5 bands of all time.
60s and 70s P Floyd is the time where you want to be ..If you want to hear the original psychedelia ,check the 1st album ''Piper AT The Gates Of Dawn .That is a total experimentation of sounds and then onto the 70s after you get a good sample of the 60s...
They had to do all this stuff with analog equipment too. They're not the only ones that was doing this stuff, but they're one of the most influential artists experimenting with it.
This is one of Roger Waters' songs about how much he hates record executives and the music "business" in general. Gilmour's guitar work here is phenomenal!
BTW, the name of the band Pink Floyd came on the spur of the moment by Syd Barrett from his record collection, two blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
I gotta recommend that you guys check out Robert Johnson. He’s the most influential musician ever, but he rarely gets airtime because his music is so old.
This is an interesting song to start with. It’s sung from the perspective of a record executive talking to the band. Which one’s Pink? The vocalist is actually not even in the band, which is genius because the record executive doesn’t know or care, just wants that $$$. The guest vocalist Roy Harper actually sounds like a perfect mash-up of the two main singers Roger Waters and David Gilmour. You really should do Dark Side of the Moon next. That album has it all. Profound lyrics, sweet guitar work, jazzy elements with some piano and saxophone, and it’s probably one of the best produced albums you’ll ever hear.
#HeadsUp 😉 Get use to "abrupt endings" and/or "interesting starts" depending on which PF songs you hear 1st off an Album as they are to be played in order. 🥰 Looking forward to this journey! 🤔 Also Rush, 🥺 please & thank you! 😁🐰
Pink Floyd is Legendary, they are an Experience man! Pink Floyd was formed in London in1965, from 1968 to 1985, Pink Floyd had 4 members. Roger Waters, (bass), David Gilmour, (guitar), Rick Wright, (keyboards)and Nick Mason, (drums). In 1985 Roger Waters quit the band, and the three remaining members carried on as Pink Floyd from 1986 to 2008, when Rick Wright died of cancer. They have almost used at least three background singers in the studio and live, also using more touring musicians at live performances. None of these singers and musicians are in the Pink Floyd band. Pink Floyd has sold over 250 millions worldwide, they are one of the bast selling Rock Bands of all time. Pink Floyds' roots are in Blues, American Blues, just like virtually every other Rock Band to come out of England in the 1960s. They took their name from two old time American Blues guitarists from the mi 1900,... ... PINK Anderson, (1900 - 1974), and Floyd Council, (1911 - 1976).
Gents - Pink Floyd is a pillar of classic rock. They created their own lane that sounds like NOBODY and their production is fabulous to this day. This is one of their greatest songs for me - quintessential Pink Floyd. The lyrics are great too - saw The Wall tour (Rodger Waters - no Gilmore) and it was an amazing show and experience. More Floyd - the rabbit hole is twisty!
Pink Floyd Albums: Dark Side of the Moon 1973 Wish you were here 1975 Animals 1977 The Wall 1979 Only Animals can really be split into songs, all the others run from one song to the next as a complete entity. In 2012, Dark Side of the Moon was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The Dark Side of the Moon has been certified 14× platinum in the United Kingdom, and topped the US Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart, where it has charted for 963 weeks in total. With estimated sales of over 45 million copies, it is Pink Floyd's most commercially successful album, and one of the best-selling albums worldwide.

Syd barrett--the mastermind behind PF, came up with the name on the spur of the moment. the Tea Set was performing before them, so Syd took the first names of the 2 men playing in the tea set, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. The lines," the band is just fantastic, that is really what I think.." oh by the way, which ones pink?, is to show their lies and point towards true intent -..I love the line, "We're so happy we can hardly count"
Well gentleman been checking you all out for a couple weeks. Love seeing you react to my generations music. Pink Floyd is Top Shelf and I just subscribed.
I'm so glad the younger generation is hearing all of the awesome classic rock bands from back in the day. The corporate protest rock was everywhere back then. I hope you guys are seeing the this theme as you continue to listen to these bands. They all were anti-establishment until most of them ended up selling out. Thank you, Neil Young, for always keeping it real. LOL - "This note's for you" right?!
You go down the Pink Floyd 'rabbit hole', you ain't ever coming out. 'Shine on your crazy Diamond', 'Comfortably Numb', 'Time', 'Hey You', 'Wish you were Here', 'Dogs', the list goes on and on. To me, PF was the most innovative band in rock history. Pure brilliance. David Gilmour lead guitar and vocals, Roger Waters vocals and guitar and wrote most of the songs.

I think ! Enjoy 😎
Some of their albums need to be experienced in one whole sitting as the songs tell a cohesive story like The Wall or Dark Side of The Moon
David Gilmour: vocals and guitars
Roger Waters: vocals and bass
Richard Wright: keys and background vocals
Nick Mason: drums
Pink Floyd doesn't fit into any one genre, they incorporate many styles, techniques and atmospheric elements into a sound that is uniquely theirs. No other band like them...not even close.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention (and you'll hear this from others) their albums are complete works, with one song leading into the next with no pauses. You can certainly react to individual songs, but many times they don't end like a typical album cut.
You speak the truth, they are their own genre and had as good a run in the 70s as anyone.
Perfectly said.
The rabbit hole you're heading down is extremely deep. Enjoy the ride.
So glad you liked it. It’s one of my favourites.
pink floyd albums are all one big song back to back
Yes great tune. Please pursue Pink Floyd, you won’t regret it!!
Looking forward to seeing your reaction to Animals...another LP that must be listened to beginning to end, as most Floyd albums
Keep digging into their catalog of music. You will not be disappointed. Guaranteed.
Guy's,I'm new to your channel and I can say it's a pleasure to find real reactions ,no BS.Keeping it real. From Rhode Island
All I can say is....
come in here,
dear boys,
have a cigar,
you keep listening to Pink Floyd,
your mind's going to go far.......
PINK FLOYD IS
a life changing event period.
Pink Floyd is a genre of it's own.
Pink Floyd's music is its own genre
unreal guitar solo. one of the best ever
Darkside of the Moon 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You guys will love just about all of Pink Floyd.✌🏻❤️
I just re-watched this and man, what a pleasure to see you guys react to these almost 50 year old songs!
These guys were THE Pioneers of Tech Music.
Thanks for watching!!
At this point, you don't know what you don't know. This journey will be amazing.
I am sorry for your loss. I’m glad we can help you get through it a little bit. Peace and Love
Time, shine on you crazy diamond, eclipse/brain damage, us and them, comfortably numb..the list of epic songs goes on and on but these are a MUST!!!
Great energy guys, reminds us why we love these tracks! The "filter" At the end is the studio headphone sound, like the engineers would hear
Awesome boys..You are definitely on a crash course with pure greatness!! Dark side of the moon.. and Animals along with this album are my go to for Pink Floyd..soon they will be yours also..Shout out from the old Detroit metal head..Keep up the good work..Love your channel!!
I think this might be the coolest guitar solo.
Do not rush Floyd. Let it take you. It's a sonic journey that many of us have heard for 40+ years but still listen to. The wall came out when I was 13 and shaped most of my teenage years. One of my top 5 bands of all time.
The 70’s rock, fellas.
One of my all time favorite grooves.... And that bass...
Pink Floyd has been plugging into souls for decades 🤘🤘
This is one of Roger Waters' songs about how much he hates record executives and the music "business" in general. Gilmour's guitar work here is phenomenal!
BTW, the name of the band Pink Floyd came on the spur of the moment by Syd Barrett from his record collection,
two blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
Biggest music influencers of ALL TIME right here. Everyone loves PF and attributes them to their music styles since. 💯
This Prog rock at it's best. They mean this most sincere.
Pink Floyd Albums:
Dark Side of the Moon 1973
Wish you were here 1975
Animals 1977
The Wall 1979
Only Animals can really be split into songs, all the others run from one song to the next as a complete entity.
These guys are unique, and they are a genera. You just opened a door that will change you. Pack your bags because you are about to go on a spiritual journey. I have been listening to these guys for 50 years and I listen to them every day. Welcome to the world of Floyd gentlemen.
Pink Floyd, "Learn to fly, on the turning away, mother, good bye Blue sky, us and them, time, . Enjoy!!
Thanks for the reaction. Pink Floyd definitely were musical geniuses. I to was high the first time listening to this album. I saw them in concert 1988 Arrowhead Stadium Kansas City MO. U need to to go down the rabbit hole, dive into there catalogue of music.
Master musicianship that is immune to time. Gilmore solos are some of the 🐐
Syd barrett--the mastermind behind PF, came up with the name on the spur of the moment. the Tea Set was performing before them, so Syd took the first names of the 2 men playing in the tea set, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
Pink Floyd is an experience that you gotta take
I'm so glad the younger generation is hearing all of the awesome classic rock bands from back in the day.
This is one of my fav Floyd songs.
You have stumbled upon one of the deepest rabbit holes, one that has no end. Welcome to Progressive Music! Please play the live video of Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes.
From the Secret World concerts. Yes, a great deal of love for that one.
Greatest song they did imo !!!!!
Can’t wait to see you react to more Pink Floyd albums and their Pulse concert. That concert is the best ever.
"Aw, shit!" is the appropriate response to hearing this for the first time.
