Ashley Brooke If your hair ever gets too light for your liking again, try a Color Touch toner from Sally's by Wella. Any blue violet color in a level 8-10 (10.12 is most popular shade) will neutralize brass for longer than the conditioner did and shade it down slightly for you. Demi-permanent will hydrate the hair more after lightening so look for that. Only an extra 8 dollars 👍🏽
Jai Rolka hi I'm a hairdresser too but I haven't worked in salon yet because of my small daughter , how would u say u learned most of the chemical techniques ? Classes? On ur own ? Or salon experience
Sign up for any class you can get to. Keep watching videos. Dig out your mannequins from school and experiment with techniques you're interested in perfecting. Personally, I felt like I didn't learn enough about modern color technique in beauty school. I was too busy with my student clientele, which was mainly mature women who wanted root retouches/perms/wash&sets etc. Lots of all-over coloring, color corrections, and tons of high-lights, though. Still, I feel like you- color is my passion and I want to learn more. I want to learn the cutting-edge techniques. I only did 2 balayages in school- can you imagine?!?! Find a salon that values continuing education. I'm about to start at a very prestigious salon in my area (they go work Fashion Week every year!). They won't pay me much at first, but I know the value of what I'll learn from experienced people.
Dear Ashley, thank you so much, I'm a jobless girl, studying and I wanted to try something to make a little difference in my frustrating and depressive life! You really helped me, that too, all for free! I'm sending my true love and blessings directly from India! 😘💕❤️
After watching this, I went out and bought the same dye and tried this... I've never done this to myself, but after washing and drying my hair I have to say I'd recommend doing this even if you're skeptical! I followed the video exactly, and honestly, I would say it looks just as good as going to a salon!
THANK YOU!! I'm trying to save money at the moment, so I've been scouring UA-cam & the internet for weeks, in search for the perfect DIY balayage tutorial. After watching this, I need not look any further! This is the best one I have found...even better than Jessie James Decker's. I love that your directions are simple & fairly brief, yet still highly descriptive. You make it very easy to follow! And your hair looks gorgeous! Thanks again for sharing your tutorial! 👍
I was actually planning on highlighting my hair today and wanted to see how others do it. I was just gonna use a cap, then came across this balayage and your video. I LOVE this. You explained it so great and I love that you showed us how to actually do it. It looks so good. I never heard of this before. And I plan on doing this instead!! Thank you!
love it - balayage is a nice natural looking way of applying the colour so even if its not perfect it still looks more natural than flat out colouring. Brilliant & thanks
THIS VID!! I did my first DIY balayage using this video over a year ago. Since then, I have gotten more adventurous with my DIY hair colouring and currently am enjoying my DIY pink balayage. Thanks for this!
I love your hair, I just finished watching your styling video too!! It is so effortless and flowy. Thank you for this video I can't wait to try this technique out, especially since I can't spend a fortune at the salon! Thanks again, please keep your updated hair routines coming!
You did a great job, one thing that might help you next time: That is bleach, and if it dries out completely, it will deactivate it or at least slow it down. If you lay down some saran wrap (I know, sounds weird), between each section you drop down, it'll help keep it wet when you apply heat. I'm a licensed cosmetologist, so I'm supposed to tell you not to do this at all by yourself, but you didn't do anything wrong and you have a good eye for placement and sectioning.
well I suppose when you put yourself out there, you cannot escape criticism! Anyway, I appreciate that you did because this is very helpful. I've dyed my own hair with a box when I was younger and then started going to the salon but I'm tired of spending the money! So THANK YOU I think I am going to use this technique!!
loved this video! I've been highlighting my hair at home for over 20 yrs and finally see something i haven't used -- the hair dryer!! this is brilliant and a great way to speed the process up a bit. sometimes i sit for an hour in agony waiting. very cool video with awesome results.
Yes, I always add heat! Make sure to cover your hair before you put heat on it though. Someone told me it will dry out if you don't. I plan on using a shower cap :)
Found your channel from this video and I've been binge watching since! I used this technique on my hair two days ago and have gotten so many compliments since! Than you :)
Thank God I came across your video! I just did this last night and it turned out fab-o. I bought the same box (same issue with my brown hair taking forever to lift!) and did tiny pieces at a time. Using the gloves was annoying, so I used my fingers too, although I rinsed off my hands every 10 minutes or so to avoid bleaching my fingertips. Saved $$$. Less than $10 spent!
You need to use latex or nitrile gloves like they use in hospitals or salons (I get mine in the cleaning section of Walgreens or acme). The big plastic deli gloves that come in dye kits suck.
You, my dumbass friend, are depressed. Jk idk . But you probably are either incredibly self conscious, so you try to make yourself feel beautiful by doing that, or you have self confidence.
I did this two days ago and it turned out so good! Thank you for making this video! I'm gonna do it again soon to lighten it up more and I can't wait. :) it was more fun than highlighting, and it looks more natural as well. xx
God!! I've been watching and watching videos and finally found one that really explains things well and give out useful tips. Def trying it this weekend. Thanks
Wow! Love the view, can't imagine waking up to that everyday. Jesse James Decker has the same video, I think she calls it honey dippin. Very good technique, I think I'll try it for lowlights. Good for you, great job!
I'm a hairdresser and I LOVE these videos because so many girls royally screw up their hair trying to lighten themselves and I make major moolah fixing them! Lol Your hair really does looks great though! 💗
Haha! My hair stylist gets so mad at me when I do my hair myself. That's why I always tell people not to do it themselves when making a huge change! Luckily, I've found a system that works for me. I'm sure you're great at what you do! xx
Finger painting! Never considered this yet it turned out well on her hair. Better for touch ups rather than full balayage:) Thanks for this alternative method!
Omg seriously..perfect! I did this couple years ago.. And I've been trying to decide to go back (because, well... I don't feel like myself anymore ha) first vid I watched... And now my mind is set! Thanks for sharing:)))
Omg thankyou ive looked and looked for tutorials either they are not very explaining or they are too scary and damaging but this is light and easy ❤❤❤❤
Did you use do it as a touch up? I know that’s what she did and I’m wondering if I did it on my natural hair if it would look similar (I have dirty blonde hair)
you made it look so easy, I've done my balayage twice but always nervous and ask someone else to help me out with things and do the back of my hair. But i am gonna try your way now i feel all motivated loved it!💜
I tried it the method you used and it worked perfectly thank you so much i'm so happy about it! And btw you are so beautyful and you deserve so much more followers because also your fashion videos and the others are georgeos :)
it looks amazing and natural. i was contemplating whether to get it done at a salon, its crazy expensive like at least $200+ with treatment from where i live. Also, i have trust issues with someone doing my hair. i was thinking of DIY with 2 tone balayage to create more natural and depth. maybe lightest blonde and darker blonde.
Omg, thank you so much! I actually found the sneak peek picture of this on Instagram, and I'm so glad I looked for this video to watch it! You're so funny 😂😂😂 I love the ending where you're like "what IS that??" It was also super helpful. Thanks!
+Ashley Brooke you are so brave. I hightlighted my hair once and it was pretty well considering it was a DIY but this... is different. I want a natural balayage look. I have dark hair.
It came out very nice! However: do NOT blow dry it like this directly! Do this only when you used cling film or foil. Direct hot air will dry the bleach out and it stops developping!
Hey guys! Wanted to do an update and tell y'all this is awesome! Yesterday I box dyed my hair a regular warm brown, my hair is naturally more of an dark ash brown and I like the warmer tones. I know I should've waited so as to not damage my hair but I'm SO impatient and I had to do it! Lol so I did this today and followed what she said, and I love it! They are super subtle and probably because I had just dyed it but now I have caramelish highlights! I'm glad I did it this way because now the next time I redo this maybe in 2 weeks the highlights will be lighter and shades of the highlights will vary. Thanks girl!!!
As a hairdresser, I would 1000% recommend this to anyone who can't afford a balayage. Just remember small pieces, and good job 👍🏽
+Jai Rolka thank you 😘😘

Ashley Brooke l
Ashley what color u use
Will it work on unbleached hair?

Stacy Wacker exactly
As a control freak about my hair, the idea of placing my own baylayage sounds amazing. Thank you for sharing this!

Hi Sweetie... wear gloves next time.
You need to use latex or nitrile gloves like they use in hospitals or salons (I get mine in the cleaning section of Walgreens or acme). The big plastic deli gloves that come in dye kits suck.
I tried this on my hair and it looks like I went to a pro. This technique works so well!
I've honestly never seen such a beautiful human being in my entire life.
Anne R. Tremblay what? Then u haven't seen much
You, my dumbass friend, are depressed. Jk idk . But you probably are either incredibly self conscious, so you try to make yourself feel beautiful by doing that, or you have self confidence.
Wtf? 🤣🤣🤣
I did this two days ago and it turned out so good! Thank you for making this video! I'm gonna do it again soon to lighten it up more and I can't wait. :) it was more fun than highlighting, and it looks more natural as well. xx
what product did you use?
I used Schwarzkopf Poly Blonde M2 Medium. It looks very natural and blends in very nicely!
Kristina Sandnes hii what was your natural hair Colour?
My natural hair color is dark blonde. :)
God!! I've been watching and watching videos and finally found one that really explains things well and give out useful tips. Def trying it this weekend. Thanks

+gisselle felix Thank you!
Holy crap that turned out super beautiful
I'd love to see how you curl your hair!
Ooooh, I was cringing and thinking: "Wash your hands! Wash your hands!" ;)
I was thinking "why aren't you wearing gloves?"
and gloves and foil
I was confused how she wasn't burnt , bleach is my nemesis in the salon!
U r so pretty number one , I love ur eyebrows too !! And ur hair looks so professional thank u for this video much appreciated
fantastic video!! We used the exact same technique and same product after watching this video...and the results were perfect...thanks!!!
Great video. I've been doing this myself for a while and it's really cool to see someone finally make a good video to share with everyone. Nice job!

Turned out nice!!!! Now I learned a different way to do my hair. Think I will give it a cut first before I put in the lighter color

I know what you mean by not feeling like yourself. Funny how hair color can do that!
This is how ALL beginner DIY Balyage / Ombre / highlights should start ! Slow and steady over time will teach you a lot as more is done to hair.
Omg thankyou ive looked and looked for tutorials either they are not very explaining or they are too scary and damaging but this is light and easy ❤❤❤❤

that white stuff on your hand was chemical burn because you didn't use gloves. but your hair looks awesome!
Ahh! That's bad news. I always use glove! They broke because I kept taking them on and off to touch the camera.
What product did you use? I cant find it anywhere.. Btw you hair looks amazing!
Look's so good. Wish I could achieve the same result xx
i wanna put color in my hair before a concert, this is super easy to follow, so thank you (:
it looks amazing and natural. i was contemplating whether to get it done at a salon, its crazy expensive like at least $200+ with treatment from where i live. Also, i have trust issues with someone doing my hair. i was thinking of DIY with 2 tone balayage to create more natural and depth. maybe lightest blonde and darker blonde.
I feel you...It's so expensive. Give the DIY a try!

Amazing job! U look great. Very helpful
It came out so so beautiful... ❤
Omg, thank you so much! I actually found the sneak peek picture of this on Instagram, and I'm so glad I looked for this video to watch it! You're so funny 😂😂😂 I love the ending where you're like "what IS that??" It was also super helpful. Thanks!

+Ashley Brooke you are wayyyyy prettier than lana del rey
I actually think she's identical to Amanda Peet :)
I would say a way prettier, young Julia Roberts.
Veronica h
omg I want to try this but I am afraid of ending up messing my hair....
+Madelyn Grullon I was so scared before I did mine for the first time 😬
+Ashley Brooke you are so brave. I hightlighted my hair once and it was pretty well considering it was a DIY but this... is different. I want a natural balayage look. I have dark hair.
Me atm. Sigh
Nyledam Oml same
I felt the same way, but I think I'm just going to go for it. Will be trying this out today!
It looks so beautiful! Like a salon did it. Love it! I us gloves, because last time my fingers hurt so much 😭
your background is very eye pleasing
Thanks Yeni :)
you did a beautiful job. I am going to do this to my hair soon.
Thank you! I would love to see pics :)
nice how you explain it in an easy way with out difficult things
+just my style Thank you :)
GREAT JOB and Looks Fabulous !!!
For best results put foil around each strand.
What does the foil do to improve the results? Just wondering
It retains heat so it gives you the best color and it also allows it to process faster
+Lily Jane heat comes from your scalp though. You would need to use a hairdryer or something.
All foil really does is keep your highlights looking neater. So product doesn't get on other parts of your hair
GlamGoddess it's to retain heat
I love your video!! I am going to try it with natural products..Wish me luck!!
Good luck!! Let me know how it turns out
It came out very nice! However: do NOT blow dry it like this directly! Do this only when you used cling film or foil. Direct hot air will dry the bleach out and it stops developping!
+Mara B Ahh! Good to know. Thank you so much for the tip. Would a shower cap work?
You're a ten.
And I think I might try this now that I've got a bit of confidence from your tutorial!
Hey guys! Wanted to do an update and tell y'all this is awesome! Yesterday I box dyed my hair a regular warm brown, my hair is naturally more of an dark ash brown and I like the warmer tones.
