  • My first ever beet harvest! Harvested the beets on July 21st 2024 at approx 55-60 days of growth. The beets are Cylindra variety and are longer and not round balls like I was expecting in the video. I did not know what they would look like and assumed they would be round balls that I have seen before. These came out great for the type of beet they are. They also tasted great and it's official we like beets. Wife put them into a salad, cut raw beets and air fried some beets and mixed both into the salad and it was so good! Very excited for my first Beet harvest from the garden.

They told him, "Don't you ever come around here"
"Don't wanna see your face, you better disappear"
The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear
So beet it, just beet it

You’re so proud of beets. You’re not the first person to accomplish that. Too close together. Overcrowding. Hopefully you’ll do better next year.

@@marciathom6708 Yup definitely learned a few things. Agreed too close together was one issue and they were sowed too shallow. But they tasted great in the salad we made with them. Look forward to next year’s crops.

@@HomesteadImaginations I know there are different kinds of everything. Neger had orange carrot ones. Always had red balls. Always cooked them, never ate them raw. Always direct sewed in the ground, didn’t seed start first. We did that with cabbage, and tomatoes. Are you going to try potatoes? Fresh potatoes are the best. And so many ways to do potatoes now that look easier than in the ground!

@@marciathom6708 I started these from seed in the house. I am scared of direct sowing haha. I was surprised at the shape cause all I have ever seen of beets which is limited was the ball shaped kind. I got the seeds from a local garden shop and just assumed they would be ball shaped. Yes, next year i am hoping to do potatoes. It was on the list this year but i didn’t get the 2nd raised bed done. I am working on getting two more raised beds done and ready this year for next year. Everything is better fresh, love eating fresh veggies compared to store bought. What are your favorite potatoes?
