But if a pill exists, it's DESIGNED BY GOD, hence it's good for you, right? I mean, we don't see eyeglasses evolving into phials filled with toxins. Eyeglasses only breed eyeglasses. And because eyeglasses are made of glass, all glass must be from eyeglasses, right? And because rock doesn't breed glass, eyeglasses MUST be designed and poofed into existence by a God. Right? Therefore all phials filled with whatnot must be CREATED by DOG.
That is the reasoning by all Hovinds in a nutshell.

I work in a recovery room. When people are nauseated we put a gauze of peppermint oil in front of their face and tell them to “smell this, it will help.” They smell it, and it’s nice. And while they do that I give them anti nausea meds through the IV. 10 minutes later they feel better! Peppermint oil is a friggin miracle! Thank you jebus.

When I was a student I worked in the summer at the local hospital as an auxiliary nurse - made beds, cleaned patients' lockers, served meals. Generally unskilled work to allow nursing staff to get on with nursing. Eventually I'd help with patients' dressings post op etc. A patient complained of pain once and the nurse thought it was only in his mind. She got a phial of sterile water and injected him with it saying it was a strong analgesic. Some time later she asked how he felt and was told the pain had gone and it was great stuff she had used 🙄

    • @EdwardHowton

Peppermint oil. In a recovery room? That can't be safe. I wouldn't have wanted anyone with that stuff anywhere near me after either of my two brain surgeries. Especially the second one, when my "bandages" was polysporin applied directly to the leaking wound.
But over-the-counter "natural" ginger Gravol? I could see that being used. Better to have diphenhydramine (or is it dimenhydrinate? I always confuse the two) handy, but still better than scented oils.

Many ailments in modern countries are associated with poor diet and lifestyle practices, if everybody ate mostly or entirely a balanced, whole food plant based diet and exercise regularly there would be a significantly lower need for pharmaceuticals as there actually are an enormous amount of beneficial compounds in plants and eatinga diet heavy with whole plant foods is like eating a natural pharmacy.

What is hilarious is that snake oil was effective! The original medicine was chinese and was made from chinese water snakes. It was extremely high in omega3 fatty acids so had some real beneficial effects. At the time of the chinese labourers building railroads, the secret got out and the white guys tried making it themselves unsuccessfully from rattlesnakes. Later shysters would just take any oil and mix it with other stuff as a medicine and that is how it came to mean a fake medicine. I nerd out on stuff like this...sorry🙂

Essential oils, imo, are seen quite differently here in Australia.
We use them frequently in home cleaning mixes or basic first aid; like eucalyptus & tea tree oils.
There's a few old wives tips for the herbs, like fresh rosemary & eucalyptus for colds, or peppermint for digestion.
The main use for essential oils here are more for aromatherapy. The idea that different oils and their smells can change your mood & mental outlook.
I'm sure there are fringe groups who maybe go all in. But maybe access to free health care doesn't lead people here to look for desperate solutions to our health problems.? Maybe.

I can confirm that there is in-group language and concepts and they even teach during training “compliance language” when posting online or any kind of recorded format. Also, they specifically pushed the “biblical oils” like Frankincense, which was also their most expensive oil! I also have sensitive skin so I need to try everything on a small patch to make sure I don't end up itching like mad so it's a pain to buy off the shelf without trying a dab, waiting 24 hours, then remembering what it was I tried the day before. 🤣 It blows my mind when so many tell me that there oils "cure everything" and assume I'm part of their cult when I just like to smell nice.

I find it interesting that towards the end, Megan said "read the bible word for word". Ok, then. Exodus 7-10, the plagues. At the end of each plague, Pharaoh refuses to let Moses and his people go and every single time, it makes a point of stating "just as the Lord had predicted". If this is the case, 1 of 2 things must be true:
Option 1) Since God gives us free will, we have control over our own actions. This opens the possibility that God's prediction could be wrong, meaning God isn't perfect and all-knowing.
Option 2) Since God is perfect and all-knowing, this prediction that he's made is now set in stone. This would mean we don't have free will.
In one case (Exodus 9:12), it even goes so far as to say "the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart". So in other words, "see that person you want to get your message to above anyone else? I predict that he won't listen and then I'm going to harden his heart to make sure he doesn't listen." That is psychotic.

Yeah, that's waaaaaaaaay too preliminary to be put in a science fair! I mean, there are _some potential_ benefits for a few oils, which are being studied and are in preliminary
testing. There's a good article about it here:
"...there is evidence that balm from lemon oil reduces agitation in patients with dementia according to a study in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.
"There are other proven success stories for essential oils, such as the treatment of acne with tea tree oil and the treatment of alopecia areata or hair loss with oils like thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedarwood.
"Research into the use of essential oils found in citrus fruits is particularly intriguing due to their natural antibacterial qualities. For example, citrus oil, particularly when combined with Dead Sea salts, was shown to inhibit bacterial growth in mice and act as an anti-inflammatory agent. The citrus essential oil bergamot could help fight the growth of common causes of food poisoning like listeria, e coli, and staphylococcus."

There are certain substances that our bodies need that the body does not produce in sufficient quantities. Some amino acids, fatty acids, and vitamins for example. These are sometimes referred to as "essential". However, if you have a balanced diet, it is very rare that you really need to supplement them.

@@Griexxt I'm pretty sure my body doesn't need peppermint oil or basil oil, so that doesn't explain why plant oils are called essential

@@jannettb7930 Good point. I was just about to add that "essential oil" can also mean any oil that evaporates at somewhat normal temperatures and thus gives off a smell, pleasant or otherwise. This double meaning is probably where the scam comes in.

So apparently I’m getting really old. When I first heard of “essential oils” in the 1980s it was all about making things smell good - and maybe a Shakespearean reference to rosemary for remembrance - but now all of a sudden people claim that they’re actual woo-magic?! 🤔😂

Yep, con men arent usually happy with one effective grift. Mashing the bible into any con assures it's success.

What's going to be terrifying is when these companies put out something like "Crazy Cure" pure chamomile oil..... So some clinical schizophrenic goes off their meds thinking " this oil is all I need."
