Finally! Great video thank you! I purchased a 07 6speed with upgraded steering and it has 39.5’s i purchased this rig to give my dually a break from DD so 90 percent ill be on the road looks like i will be happy with 5.13’s. Our freeway speed is 70 so to be able to run 70-75 in 6th would be awesome with out being to hight rpms 26-27k would be ideal

Thanks for watching. I’d guess mileage differences would be negligible. Lots of factors with the driving style, traffic, terrain, and vehicle weight being big ones. I did a trip to Yellowstone and back from PA and calculated 15.6 mpg - dash showed 16. I get about 13.6 driving around home in hilly PA in short trips and usually lugging stuff. #JTRSPARTACUS
I have 1st gear and use it daily. It’s short but unless it’s completely flat or downhill, I use 1st to take off. The difference between 4.88 and 5.13 is about 5%. I’d rather have the extra 5% lower gears in the mountains or when towing. Thanks for watching. #JTRSPARTACUS
I did notice that there was about 30 degrees difference in air temperature. I wonder how much that affected the test. Other factors would be actual tire size, pressure, and difference in height above sea level. All very interesting. Thank you for posting!
You’ll need to get a Tazer or other programmer or have a dealer reflash to correct the Speedo. There is also a relearn procedure - basically drive 20 seconds in 6th while accelerating - I have another video on my channel of this . I have a Tazer mini programmer. Good luck! #JTRSPARTACUS
I’m not against this but there would be some logistics involved. Ideally we would need two trucks in the same place, same loop, same trailer. (Blake lives in Canada 🇨🇦 and I live in Pennsylvania 🇺🇸) we would need 1 with 5.13s and 1 with 4.88s. I have a Rubicon (4.10 factory) and I just switched to 5.13 gears. I went to a 37 from 35 inch tire and upgraded to chromoly axle shafts. Everyone I talked with said 5.13. Go with 5.13. Even my install shop. I absolutely HATE them. When I'm driving on the highway at 70, the RPMs sounds like the engine is going to blow. I literally filled the tank, drove 63 miles so far and I'm at HALF A TANK. It's ridiculous. Now, I'm faced with buying 4.88 gears and going through the pains of install and the dreaded 500 miles again. Going to a 37 actually helped drop the RPM about 250. But it's still a nightmare on the highway. Sorry for the rant. lol but it's been that bad for me.
Sorry to hear. Not sure why you are running such high rpm. The engineering doesn’t make sense. The difference between 5.13 and 4.88 is marginal and probably a big waste of your money. You may have another issue. Do you have a manual trans?? If you have an auto, did you correct the gears and speedo? Good luck! #JTRSPARTACUS
@@JTRSpartacus sadly, so much of this is over my head. I did this based on what my shop suggested for my needs. I have a Superchips computer module and everything there is correct. Set for 37's and 5.13's. The gears were installed prior to 37's being installed and that's when I was seeing 3,000 RPM at 70 mph. The 37's helped reduce that by about 250 RPM. It's an Auto. The shop says everything is running as it should for this setup. I just can't stand how it performs on the highway. Around town it's actually great. The bigger problem is, I live in Florida and all the road trips I take, are 10+ hours away. I carry a lot of overlanding gear on those trips. If I lived somewhere like Boone, NC this wouldn't be an issue. lol
@@thetrailaheadofus you shouldn’t be at 3,000rpms at 70mph with the 8 speed. I’m at 2,500 with the manual in 6th. Have you tried manually shifting to 8th to see what the rpms are? Something is wrong. I recommend going to a different shop to diagnose the problem. It’s not 5.13 gears and going to 4.88 will only reduce about 5% or 150 rpms but will lighten your wallet significantly.

Getting about 15.6 mpg calculated by hand in back road/hilly local driving. About 1 mpg less thank stock 4.10 and 33inch tires. Display is showing 16mpg so it’s not that far off. Thanks for watching!
Damn I wished this was an 8 speed auto comparison. I am at around 2400 Rpm going 75 on seventh gear on 4.10s on 38s. I might get my 8th gear back with 4.88s, 5.13s might be too much.
How is your takeoff with the 5.13s, I have a 2023 Willys Sport, and the take off is horrible, stalls easier than a mid 90s ford escort, reverse up hill or out of a hole is nearly impossible without side stepping the clutch, and i really have to feather the fuel in 1st to get going
Take off is much better with 5.13 gears and 37s. It’s not fast but it is responsive. If it’s flat I can take off in 2nd gear ⚙️. Thanks for watching. #JTRSPARTACUS

I did the Centerforce clutch because the factory clutch was woefully inadequate and I didn’t believe (and still don’t) that Jeep would make it right. This replaces all the faulty components with hood parts so zero worries. Thanks for watching! #JTRSPARTACUS

I want to install a front plow to push snow. in the summer I have a boat that weighs 3000lbs, I am often on the road for travel, my top speed here in Canada is a maximum of 120 kilometers per hour. what would be the best ratio for my utility, the ideal for me is the maximum of force and power while respecting the speed of the engine at approximately 1700 revolutions in 8iem clutch. thank you !
It really depends on what size tires you are running. If you are running stock size tires the stock 4.10 gears are just barely adequate with the manual transmission. You may want to look at 4.56 ratio gears for stock tires and plowing. If you go to taller say 35” tires you may want to go up to 4.88 gears but even 4.56 ratio gears will be better than stock. Different transmissions, with different ratios so it will be a bit different. The basic ideas is similar. The JL Wrangler and JT Gladiator use an Aisin D478 trans with these ratios 1st - 5.13 2nd - 2.63 3rd - 1.53 4th - 1.00 5th - 0.81 6th - 0.72 Reverse - 4.49 The JK Wrangler uses the Daimler NSG370 manual transmission. 1st 4.46 2nd 2.61 3rd 1.72 4th 1.25 5th 1.00 6th 0.84 Reverse 4.06 Good luck ! #JTRSPARTACUS

Ok. Cool, good to know. Our family is new to the Jeep family and we got a 2021 manual rubicon gladiator. Weve done nothing yet because we just dont know anything and I was curious. Just myself, I'm a short lady so I've never really driven a manual pickup before this jeep. I'm pretty good with any manual sedan, but this truck is definitely taking me some time to get accustomed. We live in Hawaii so not much opportunity to get above 50mph so I find myself most comfortable really around 3rd gear. I like to keep rpms around 2000at most for manual sedans, but it's not as natural or easy in this truck. My husband does the driving when we go offroad, lol.
Stock 3.73 gearing is probably ok for stock tires. The 3.6 Pentastar V-6 has no down low torque so more aggressive gearing helps with towing, off-roading , etc. thanks for watching. #JTRSPARTACUS
Yeah this is exactly why people should opt for the 8 speed auto. My sport on 33s can cruise at 80mph on the interstate at 2100rpm and get 20mpg. Bigger tires? 7th gear and 37s run an almost identical final ratio to stock and you still have another gear over the manual option. Plus the auto is so fast on a gearshift your always in the right gear for the situation

Problem with the auto is it will not let you slip down to a lower gear manually at times when you need it due to preventing from reveling up engine too much and only goes up to a certain RPM on its own. Manual is nice to just release the clutch and Krawl away.
😂 funny but the difference between 4.88 and 5.13 is only about 5%. I have no problem cruising at 80mph on the interstate in 6th gear and I can rock crawl in 1st gear in 4 low at 1mph. Different strokes, for different folks. Thanks for watching and commenting! #JTRSPARTACUS
@@JTRSpartacus yeah, I swapped from 4.10s to 5.13s in my 89 f350. It's got a zf5 and a 460 sitting on 35s. We use it to haul hay and farm equipment and that 10% difference is huge when it comes to towing heavy. Where the 4.10s you were safer just staying in 4th and hanging between 55 and 60 mph I've cruised in OD at 65 with 15k worth of hay on the gooseneck and she handles it so much nicer now.
@@GwynethDawn nice! a 460 is 2 cylinders and a little over twice the size of a 3.6liter Pentastar v-6. A Gladiator (especially mine at almost 6,000 lbs…) needs gearing to make up for the wheezy, low torque v6 and the double overdrive makes it work on the highway. Thanks!!

One truck is Fahrenheit, and one is Celsius. 34 degrees F to -1 C is a difference of 3 degrees Fahrenheit. Virtually no difference.

2nd gear is a bit tall on the manual. In 4wd low, I can put in 2nd and crawl up a 20degree hill without giving it any gas.

Oh. My mileage with 4.10 was a little worse 13 ish - got a little better with the gear change. Life, towing, off roading got a lot better.

I want to install a front plow to push snow. in the summer I have a boat that weighs 3000lbs, I am often on the road for travel, my top speed here in Canada is a maximum of 120 kilometers per hour. what would be the best ratio for my utility, the ideal for me is the maximum of force and power while respecting the speed of the engine at approximately 1700 revolutions in 8iem clutch. thank you !
It really depends on what size tires you are running. If you are running stock size tires the stock 4.10 gears are just barely adequate with the manual transmission. You may want to look at 4.56 ratio gears for stock tires and plowing. If you go to taller say 35” tires you may want to go up to 4.88 gears but even 4.56 ratio gears will be better than stock. Different transmissions, with different ratios so it will be a bit different. The basic ideas is similar. The JL Wrangler and JT Gladiator use an Aisin D478 trans with these ratios
1st - 5.13
2nd - 2.63
3rd - 1.53
4th - 1.00
5th - 0.81
6th - 0.72
Reverse - 4.49
The JK Wrangler uses the Daimler NSG370 manual transmission.
1st 4.46
2nd 2.61
3rd 1.72
4th 1.25
5th 1.00
6th 0.84
Reverse 4.06

If the question is do 5.13s vs 4.88 feel different. I’m not sure. Probably at least a little bit. Blake is in Canada 🇨🇦 and I’m in Pennsylvania 🇺🇸 so this was a virtual collaboration. I’m open to doing a back to back in person comparison if anyone is in the PA, DE, MD, Southern Jersey region with a manual JT, 37s and 4.88 gears.
Ok. Cool, good to know. Our family is new to the Jeep family and we got a 2021 manual rubicon gladiator. Weve done nothing yet because we just dont know anything and I was curious. Just myself, I'm a short lady so I've never really driven a manual pickup before this jeep. I'm pretty good with any manual sedan, but this truck is definitely taking me some time to get accustomed. We live in Hawaii so not much opportunity to get above 50mph so I find myself most comfortable really around 3rd gear. I like to keep rpms around 2000at most for manual sedans, but it's not as natural or easy in this truck. My husband does the driving when we go offroad, lol.

My gladiator has 3:73 gear ratio
Stock 3.73 gearing is probably ok for stock tires. The 3.6 Pentastar V-6 has no down low torque so more aggressive gearing helps with towing, off-roading , etc. thanks for watching. #JTRSPARTACUS
Yeah this is exactly why people should opt for the 8 speed auto. My sport on 33s can cruise at 80mph on the interstate at 2100rpm and get 20mpg. Bigger tires? 7th gear and 37s run an almost identical final ratio to stock and you still have another gear over the manual option. Plus the auto is so fast on a gearshift your always in the right gear for the situation

Problem with the auto is it will not let you slip down to a lower gear manually at times when you need it due to preventing from reveling up engine too much and only goes up to a certain RPM on its own. Manual is nice to just release the clutch and Krawl away.

😂 funny but the difference between 4.88 and 5.13 is only about 5%. I have no problem cruising at 80mph on the interstate in 6th gear and I can rock crawl in 1st gear in 4 low at 1mph. Different strokes, for different folks. Thanks for watching and commenting! #JTRSPARTACUS
@@JTRSpartacus yeah, I swapped from 4.10s to 5.13s in my 89 f350. It's got a zf5 and a 460 sitting on 35s. We use it to haul hay and farm equipment and that 10% difference is huge when it comes to towing heavy. Where the 4.10s you were safer just staying in 4th and hanging between 55 and 60 mph I've cruised in OD at 65 with 15k worth of hay on the gooseneck and she handles it so much nicer now.
@@GwynethDawn nice! a 460 is 2 cylinders and a little over twice the size of a 3.6liter Pentastar v-6. A Gladiator (especially mine at almost 6,000 lbs…) needs gearing to make up for the wheezy, low torque v6 and the double overdrive makes it work on the highway. Thanks!!
