Hello Johnathon, and Mike,,,, l have just watched this video at home and am appreciating every step ,portage, paddle stroke, campsite, forest chicken, black fly , and your beautiful adventure. Thank you for taking me back to these trails , lakes and experiences, as l was part of an MNR Canoe Ranger team, and Park Warden covering some of those lakes in the early 1980’s …. I am 65 now, and envy your trip, as these days are long behind me. Great job on the vid ,,, many many stories out of Burntroot… your camera work was beautiful, have seen those lakes roaring in all their glory,,,, Thanks for posting. Currently a book is being written and published by a friend of mine about the Life of early trail workers and Algonquin Canoe Rangers… you might find it very interesting once it becomes available. Thanks for taking me back …… Rob Berry

Thanks Rob, glad you enjoyed it! I have a lot of appreciation for anyone who had a hand in maintaining these parks and canoe routes. I love getting out there whenever possible. The book you mention would indeed interest me, Ill try and keep an eye open for it. Have a great day and thanks for watching!

Rob that's incredible! I would have loved to have to have seen the park in the those days, we were even having a conversation during the trip as to wouldn't it be amazing to be able to see pictures of some of the camp sites in the past compared to today.
Definitely looking forward to the book

Some good fishing spots and a few gorgeous paddling mornings and a treacherous portage at High falls. 2023 Cuts like a knife trip didn't disappoint. Looked like fun guy's.

Was one of those trips where everything came together, weather, bugs, fishing… even the company was ok lol

Very nice loop! Impressive smoking single carry, how does he do it?

Haha, while I would love to claim he is a specimen, basically we pack very light, take breaks when needed. Love this loop, probably my favorite ice out Algonquin loop. Thanks for watching!

    Enjoyable vid. Subscribed.
My girl and I did the same route (except we went all along the Tim on the way back) last year. We were exhausted by the end of it and we're the type of people that exercise everyday. Your trip looked like a piece of cake for you guys! And one of you guys smokes?? I'm impressed. What's your secret?
I'm wondering if it's because you guys woke up early and started on glass smooth waters.. we usually woke up at 10am and had choppy waters when paddling on the lakes.

Hehe glad you enjoyed the vid! I can’t comment on how Mike does it (he is the smoker) but there are a few factors. Weather was pretty perfect as you said, helps not just for the calm paddling but also energy levels in general. Cold and rainy or hot and humid both can really drain you pretty hard. Secondly the main secret is just lightweight gear and packing only what you need. Light boats and bags make a huge difference. Lastly this actually is just a fairly easy trip for us, we have done much harder so even when we hit tough days like our second to last one in this video we just have the get it done attitude, take breaks when needed and keep moving. Like everybody else there are moments when I’m burnt but I just remind myself I love being out there and it’s worth it… and unlike you my exercise isn’t what it should be so I need workout! Have a great one!

Didn't try any fishing on the sittingman chain of lakes? Great trip!

Hey Mack, don’t think we tried much fishing at all on that day… mostly just traveled until sittingman itself. We did fish there and only caught and released tiny fish.
