All hot laps for fast lap times are done with a flying start. This video and test is no exception. No lap time from the dig is ever is going to be faster than a flying start. Duh.
@@RizM820 He wasn't comparing the two types of starts head to head, he was comparing the difference in outcomes with the two cars in different standardized starts.
I think the difference was that you were going about 20 mph then floored it only about 75 yards away from the start line when you were in the turbo S. When you were in the GT3, you were going as fast as you could the entire lap before the start line. I’ll have to go watch it one more time, but I think that was the difference. Either do a start from a certain MPH or from a stop, so that it’s fair.

@@choyayahyah right. I’ll definitely admit that the gt3 would probably be faster around a better track. Something in more pristine condition, but not on that track. With the curbs in mind, the poor surface and narrow track width, I don’t believe the gt3 was faster.

Rory, in the best possible way: I’m surprised how you’ve improved as a driver/commentator over the years! REALLY great video and analysis. (TBH, you need the same tyres to compare lap times though)
@@NegativoZ06 True, you need the Nurburgring to truly feel the difference between the two. But it just goes to show the Turbo S isn't lacking in handling or track dynamics despite being a heavier 4wd GT.
Need to put cup 2’s on the Turbo and I think it will close the gap and probably be a tad quicker than the GT3, they make a lot of difference and most who take a turbo to the track would put them on.
The track time improvement of the gt3 just isn't worth the comfort of a turbo s. I think most enthusiasts just like the gt3 because that's the car they're supposed to like. Realistically, getting a turbo s, which is more available and more comfortable is just worth it.
Exactly my friend. The GT3 is the car that, being a car enthusiast, they’re *supposed* to like, they *must* prefer, they *have* to choose. The kind of people who have no personal preference and follow the crowd and big figures in the game (Chris Harris, Mat Watson, etc.), to fit in are not real car enthusiasts.
I grew up when the Turbo was the only 911 in Need for Speed as well as the cover car of Porsche Unleashed, and the GT2 was the car winning races for Porsche. I was disgusted when someone photoshopped a cover from those games with modern cars and replaced the 993 Turbo with a 991.1 GT3 RS. It isn't about the car, more about company politics which trickles down to journalists and then viewers.
They should have the same tires in the test!! I would go for the Turbo S, very capable car and the speed is a party trick that is truly amazing!! On of the fastest cars out there!! And I can take my twins with me in the back!! And also the width and the looks of the Turbo is awesome!!
The turbo is not the best choice of track car, the extra weight counts against it. The GT3 is lighter with more track oriented suspension. For a cross country drive in the pouring rain, the turbo is the car of choice. Different horses for different courses… Then there’s the issue that you can buy a turbo but the GT3 is sold out.
The Turbo S was by far the best around the track: That massive jolt in the GT3 over the Kern: Surely going over the kerbs breaks contact between the tyres and track and loses seconds. A fraction of a second 2/10ths or whatever it was is not worth it: The Turbo S was more composed and safer.
I prefer the Turbo S , but as most folk will automatically go GT3 it’s value rockets second hand The S is better in the real world, rain and ride on real roads So maybe the compromise of the GT3 Touring is actually the sweet spot and probably go up in value too 🤔
I honestly love both cars and one of them should be in my future garage if I ever have the money. But, I think there's some of Porsche politics in those comparison videos. First, why so far nobody tested both cars on the same tyres while it's very known that the Pirelli ones are a noticeable drop in performance. Second, they all are trying to make the Gt3 look significantly faster on track while the actual difference is less than half a second with the slower car being on worst tires. I think Porsche doesn't want to make the Turbo S look as good as the GT3 while the latter is being advertised as a track master and set with load of track parts and tech and still performed same as a Turbo.S
Those numbers are very conservative. 0-100 is a solid 2.4-2.5 and the 1/4 mile is 10.1. If you get a really good launch, best I've seen is a 2.3 to 100kph and a 9.9s 1/4 mile.
I can't begin to tell you how much better you are at this job than Matt Motormouth Watson. You are a real car guy, he reads notes and does lots of takes, and he talks way too much when we are just there for the cars. Keep being the best at what you do, making it look easy.
GT3 1. Naturally Aspirated Engine 2. 9000 RPM redline 3. Manual gearbox And you choose a turbo s with bloody turbos with console-like paddle shifters. You're bitter mate
A better comparison would have had them with the same tires. Disappointed that this great program didn’t solve that. Tires equal grip and if the Turbo S had the better tires then we think it would have been a different outcome.
Great video! Although I have a 911, it’s neither of those and I have no special favorite here. Both are fantastic in very different ways. So, I’m not biased at all. Really. But it’s clear the Turbo S would be faster on the same tires on that test. 0.5 sec would disappear with the Cup2 R. Beside the tires, we must consider that only a race driver can extract the full potential of a GT3. On the other hand, an ordinary track day enthusiast would be more comfortable with the awd on the Turbo S and that probably will make him faster too.
There was a time, up to the mid-2000s, when the Turbo was the favored 911, as the GT3 was still in its beginnings and Porsche's premier race car was the GT2. In the late 2000s, for reasons that escape my mind, though I suspect it had to do with a certain Japanese car, Porsche completely shifted focus. No one was running turbo cars in the GT classes and the GT3 had its one make series. So people began to identify Porsche with natural aspiration and crap on turbocharged 911s due to the sound, despite turbos being a huge part of Porsche's history. Although the GT3's speed is commendable, the Turbo could be way faster if Porsche didn't deliberately nerf it to protect its GT car. Whether it's bad OEM tires or a conservative suspension setup, Porsche has done everything in their power to deprive the Turbo of its sportscar identity. Which usually doesn't work since the Turbo is still a 911 and also very fast so it can bruise the GT3 at the latter's own game. As seen in this video!

Not that it matters since I can't afford either but, the sound of that N/A flat six heading for 9k RPM is just insane!!! :-D The fact it also comes with a manual box which, in 2021 is a rarity, has sold it to me. Also, from an engineering standpoint, 200kg of weight saving in a car the size of a 911 is incredible! I would feel very privileged to get to drive either but, the sound of that GT3 is something that stirs my soul! I want it. Badly!

@@joeshmoe9233 thank you 😊
@@Mimoza120 My pleasure.
I like the GT3 performance , but the Turbo S are friendly with me. I want own both of them.
A race I was looking forward to seeing and it didnt disappoint. Thank you Rory.
Turbo S for every day driving is much better car. Great video, well done as always.
So,thanks to Rory ,when my wife calls me " a 10 second man" I take it as a compliment 👍😲
10 seconds....show off
I think the difference was that you were going about 20 mph then floored it only about 75 yards away from the start line when you were in the turbo S. When you were in the GT3, you were going as fast as you could the entire lap before the start line. I’ll have to go watch it one more time, but I think that was the difference. Either do a start from a certain MPH or from a stop, so that it’s fair.
I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone noticed and I was shocked to find only you. Plus, it was the drivers 2nd go so he's more familiar with the track and the tires on the gt3 are better
@@choyayahyah hahaha! I did the exact same thing! I figured the comments would be flooded with thoughts about the start speeds. Odd that nobody mentioned your thing about driving the gt3 last. That would be a huge advantage.
@@lukelambert4595 And one more interesting point. The driver mentioned that the GT3 was much harsher over the curbes and he felt the crash a lot more. It's very possible that upset the car because of how stuff it is and time
@@choyayahyah right. I’ll definitely admit that the gt3 would probably be faster around a better track. Something in more pristine condition, but not on that track. With the curbs in mind, the poor surface and narrow track width, I don’t believe the gt3 was faster.
@@lukelambert4595 I'm not so sure, I'm curious if the GT3 really would be quicker around any track over the Turbo S . The GT3 is no doubt a more enjoyable car and certainly the GT3 RS if it will have the 580 hp that it supposedly will have I would bet will be a lot quicker than the Turbo S around most tracks. Both phenomenal cars though.
GT3 All Day Brother. Being a BMW man at heart, I have always wanted the 911 Turbo but that GT3 especially in that beautiful color has blown me away!! Free Agent From Washington DC
Great video as always. Have to go with the Turbo S. Easier for use everyday.
Another great episode with Rory. Still curious about the laptime of the Turbo S with Michelin tyres.
It would surely, in this comparison, have been faster
In my opinion, the 911 GT3 could cost twice as much and it would still be worth it. Where else can you get a N/A 9000rpm, manual, RWD that sounds and looks this good?
Previous-gen Audi R8 V10 with that gated manual
@@monishartwani8418 New.
@@307skylake7 Yeah, ik, but still. That comes close.
Honda s2000
@@STR1XDLB my immediate thought. 😂. Still something tells me this is somehow different.
Rory, in the best possible way: I’m surprised how you’ve improved as a driver/commentator over the years! REALLY great video and analysis. (TBH, you need the same tyres to compare lap times though)
Also for the 0.5s I think the tyres would fill that gap… I guess Porsche would t be happy though…
Turbo S loses to a track dedicated car by only a few milliseconds while providing much more creature comforts. Clear winner for me.
In nurburgring the time isn't juts a second
@@NegativoZ06 True, you need the Nurburgring to truly feel the difference between the two. But it just goes to show the Turbo S isn't lacking in handling or track dynamics despite being a heavier 4wd GT.
@@HiddenWen Actually, the turbo would win if it had the same tyre.
This comparison was unfair because gt3 had much better rubber
You are by far the best in the business my friend. Keep up the great work….
Need to put cup 2’s on the Turbo and I think it will close the gap and probably be a tad quicker than the GT3, they make a lot of difference and most who take a turbo to the track would put them on.
And if they didn't have a rolling start the turbo would have smashed the gt3
That Turbo is soo good looking. What a good spec 😍
Wow the fact he said the turbo was more fun to chuck around was shocking to me. Thanks for an awesome video guys!!
Similar to Steve Sutcliffe; he was 0.1 secs faster with both cars, so the same 0.5 secs difference. He knows the track very well, though.
But Steve didn't have a massive passenger in the other seat.
They should have the same tires in the test!! I would go for the Turbo S, very capable car and the speed is a party trick that is truly amazing!! On of the fastest cars out there!! And I can take my twins with me in the back!! And also the width and the looks of the Turbo is awesome!!
Didn't realise the Turbo S is a genuine 200mph car these days. That would be my pick
I like how he acted all kind of goofy then wrecked the track like a boss. lol
The Turbo S was by far the best around the track:
That massive jolt in the GT3 over the Kern:
Surely going over the kerbs breaks contact between the tyres and track and loses seconds.
A fraction of a second 2/10ths or whatever it was is not worth it:
The Turbo S was more composed and safer.
Turbo S all day everyday.
I prefer the Turbo S , but as most folk will automatically go GT3 it’s value rockets second hand
The S is better in the real world, rain and ride on real roads
So maybe the compromise of the GT3 Touring is actually the sweet spot and probably go up in value too 🤔
It would be interesting to see both cars on the same tires
TTS= 42.9s vs GT3= 42.4s Instead of the Pirelli P-Zeros, install the same Michelin Cup 2s on the Turbo S and see what happens 🙃
Well said. Plus on a faster track result might be different.
Precisely.
Those numbers are very conservative. 0-100 is a solid 2.4-2.5 and the 1/4 mile is 10.1. If you get a really good launch, best I've seen is a 2.3 to 100kph and a 9.9s 1/4 mile.
Rory please review the m5 cs 🙏
I don't know about time and shits, but them Porsche guys know their rims! In both cars the rims are magnificent.
It's a 3.7 litre biturbo, not a 4.0
If both cars were using the same tire, your comparison would be valid.
Turbo S for me, all day long.
I can't begin to tell you how much better you are at this job than Matt Motormouth Watson. You are a real car guy, he reads notes and does lots of takes, and he talks way too much when we are just there for the cars. Keep being the best at what you do, making it look easy.
GT3
1. Naturally Aspirated Engine
2. 9000 RPM redline
3. Manual gearbox
And you choose a turbo s with bloody turbos with console-like paddle shifters. You're bitter mate
This! what an amazing video!!! plz bring Adam back... you guys work well together
Question: how accurate was the timing equipment for these lap times?
Ridiculous equipment “iphone” and just one lap time to compare.
Totally accurate. He used the iPhone 13 with a guess on where the start timing is 😂😂😘
GT3 my car in the future, calling it now.
Rory is a legend....
A better comparison would have had them with the same tires. Disappointed that this great program didn’t solve that. Tires equal grip and if the Turbo S had the better tires then we think it would have been a different outcome.
"The thing is though, manuals are supposed to be slower" Just gave it away for me. Thank you for murdering the suspense mate.
Turbo S for me please
Steve Sutcliffe from Auto Express got 42.2 out of the GT3 but granted that was the PDK version. Unbelievable car 👌🏽
PDK and 90kg lighter ;)
Cup 2 tyres in the turbo s and do a rematch...:-)
What a stellar review. You guys did it again. Great idea comparing these two versions. Superb video, awesome production. Well done!
Wouldn’t the comparison be more telling if both cars were on the same tyres ?
The *_GT3_* is truly a 10 second car. That's the time it took for me to realise that Rory* is not a racing driver ;-))...
* A good/great(?) reviewer of cars. Not a racer though 8-))...
The PDK GT3 is a much faster and would have beat the manual. Great video! Well done guys. Well done Adam. That’s Estre’s car you just threw around…
How come you don’t do drag races with elec scooters and stuff like farm machinery on this channel? Lol. Anther great vid Rory. I just love a turbo S.
Not that it matters since I can't afford either but, the sound of that N/A flat six heading for 9k RPM is just insane!!! :-D
The fact it also comes with a manual box which, in 2021 is a rarity, has sold it to me. Also, from an engineering standpoint, 200kg of weight saving in a car the size of a 911 is incredible! I would feel very privileged to get to drive either but, the sound of that GT3 is something that stirs my soul! I want it. Badly!
this video cleared a lot of ideas i had
i always thought that the turbo s was better than the gt3 because it has a faster 0-60 times
like why would you buy a slower more expensive car
but turns out straight line speed isn't everything
but if it was up to me i wouldn't buy any of them because i am poor as fuck 🙂
1:30 Nuclear weapon to a pillow fight,
I learnt something today that I will use for every conversation from right now
Me too 🤣🤣
That looked like loads of fun.
That dude can drive.
And boy, seeing the gt3 go over that kerb ….. mehn, that’s one stiff chassis.
Put the Sport Cup 2's on the Turbo and then compare. Otherwise what's the point? Of course the GT3 has more cornering speed and grip... it's running a track tire and you kept the Turbo on it's street tire. Super fair comparison. Slow clap. This is sarcasm.
This dude never disappoints, this dude is hands down bloody awesome...
I'd say a .5 seconds is not a clear winner. I'd call it more of a draw. They are both awesome cars.
On a racetrack with a 42 second lap time, a half second is an eternity. They are both awesome, still
I reckon he could have gone faster if he didn't have rory running his mouth beside him.
depending on how big my Lotto win, it's either a base 911 or GT3 touring both in manual.....
