You know how people say, "I clicked on this one soooo fast"? Well, I clicked slowly. When I saw this title, I got up out of bed, put on my glasses, waited for my neighbor to finish parking her car, and clipped a rough fingernail that had been annoying me. I was NOT going to permit ANY distraction to mar my enjoyment of this reaction. I'm so glad you liked Meghan's original! Pentatonix could not have made such a masterpiece of a mediocre song. The PTX version didn't lose any of the sass, but to me, it was classier. Meghan's is so sexy that she seems like a tease--trying to seduce even as she pushes away. Mitch isn't mixing messages. He says NO, and he means it. Scott and Kirstin are a tad less emphatic when they take the lead, but the message isn't mixed. Of course, comparisons aren't fair, when PTX always has the advantage with Kevin and Avi to add panache! Thanks for a great video, Jarod. The "comparison" mode suits you well, because you always appreciate both.
love your "prep" before watching! 😂 I was more than thrilled when I took off my glasses, cleaned them, put them back on and realized I'd read it right! Jarod was going to react/compare THIS ONE! 💗 I love how Mitch is so tuned into this song! It is a great song to begin with!
Love This! Meghan Trainor even tweeted her excitement about PTX covering her song! She is so sweet! This was recorded during what I'm beginning to think of as the year Mitch Grassi had matured to perfection, like a fine wine. Things kinda "clicked" for him it seems, and his command of the stage and sass when performing was fabulous! He had that side bang which was first black, then blonde and finally purple. Shortly thereafter he shaved his head. But it was During the "Year of the Side Bang" that he really started throwing his own sassy personality and dancing into his performances! This is also the year he began wearing the high-fashion clothing. The tour they did that year is when the Epic Mitch Grassi performance of "Aha!" in Singapore (at the Star Vista) took place! He's been dialed-in ever since! So thrilled to watch this with YOU! 😊 I love hearing about your little ones! My favorite thing of all time is that I'm a mom, and a new-ish grandma (ages 4 & 1)! I got spoiled with those blessings! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️... p. s. my baby turns 18 Friday... eek! For the 1st time since 1983 I could truly become an empty nester 😭😞... gulp!
Often the PTX cover is the first time I hear a song. Also often is that your comparison is the first time I see the original. Great comparison reaction. Keep the PTX reactions coming.
Thank you! These comparison videos are a great idea. For some reason I always appreciate the Pentatonix version more after hearing it next to the original. Great job as always. And enjoy that baby. Congrats.
@@JerodM You are welcome. I always get excited when I see a notification from you pop up. I just really appreciate your enjoyment of music and always feel good after watching one of your videos.
Another possible comparison would be “Problem” originally done by Ariana Grande and covered by PTX. Also don’t forget to take a look at PTX’s “Valentine” - I know it’s a cover but don’t know who the original artist is.the PTX version is beautiful and has a ethereal quality to it.
YAY another comparison. I really like these. And as usual, PTX just kills it. Way better than the original. Just 5 voices but so full. They made it sound like so much more. I would really like to see some more with just Kevin. Please do a reaction to his original "Renegade". Or any of his covers you haven't done yet. Thanks
Thank you! Loved this! You (and everyone else) always seem so amazed by what they do with just five voices and There’s still lots of PTX genius for you to explore! Looking forward to whatever PTX performance you chose next!
Great reaction, and thanks for the comparison. I saw Meghan's video a few years ago, and it was fun to see them together this way. A couple of suggestions: I know you really love Scott's voice, so you might want to check out a duet he did with Caitlin Notey of the song "Creep". It's crazy good. And I know I've asked before, but it would be great to see your reaction to PTX Thrift Shop, which is funny but also full of amazing harmonies.
I feel like Pentatonix's version missed the point of the song. It's too peppy, almost cutesy. The message isn't as strong, because it's lost under the overall beat. It's like the The Last Unicorn movie debate over Mia's untrained but genuinely emotional singing voice (voice actress for the speaking parts) vs the polished professional singer that's on the actual soundtract. They sing the same song, but the soundtract version is so busy being pretty it forgets to project actual heartbreak and confusion, rendering the song kinda pointless because it comes across as insincere.
You should see PTX live version of this on their POPSRING concert. Meghans is the official video but PTX's version and amazing since no background music and instruments. I prefer Mitch's sass
I've heard the original several times and watched the PTX version as well, of course, and like you said I think the song is very well written but to me, PTX improved on the original. By a lot. I think that you still have a number of the Superfruit Future Friends videos. There are three of you guys who all managed to stumble on to PTX and SF at about the same time and I have trouble remembering who has reacted to which. (I'm old. It happens.) but do remember that there were videos to all 14 songs on the standard edition of FF.
YES! Pop Spring please! You’ll love the last of the four songs. Live performance of “Water” featuring Kirstin. (She wrote it.) They kill all four songs!
Yay comparisons are back. Trying to think of more that you haven’t done. Well I know you did a bunch before you were comparing them so not sure if you’d watch any again for a 2nd time just to compare them to the original artist. Have you done their cover of Rather Be? (Kirstin lead) The original by Clean Bandit. Or their cover of Problem originally by Ariana Grande. Pretty sure you’ve watched PTX Bohemian Rhapsody but a queen comparison would be fun especially since Queen’s popularity seemed to have spiked again since the movie came out.
I'm not sure if would be into this idea but have ever thought of reacting to K-pop? I would like to know your opinion about some groups. There are some talented singers in the K-pop scene. Maybe think about it. I really like your channel :D
Jerod, there is a great video of Clark Beckham and Ben Platt covering PTX's Can't Sleep Love. NOBODY has done a reaction video to it. Clark's other videos are all over the place so I don't know why this one isn't out there. I didn't even know it existed until recently and I'm a huge Ben Platt fan, as well. You can cover several fan bases with just one video! It is on Ben Platt's channel.
I know you've already seen quite a few of their covers already but I think you should definitely do more of these for the songs you haven't compared to the originals yet! I actually really like the comparison videos, as it gives me a chance to compare them myself without doing any of the work! That sounded WAY more lazy than intended but basically, your reaction grounds the comparison in a way that my own reaction wouldn't be able to do. As a random suggestion for this, doing a Daft Punk comparison video would be interesting since I've seen one that was side-by-side!
Love these comparisons! I love the Penta flava, of course, but this is one song that Home Free did even better than PTX, unbelievably. The song is so catchy, but both Pentatonix and HomeFree do it better. Neither group needs the electronic fillers. They fill the song space with harmonies and perfect sound. Now go try the HF version for a really interesting comparison!
Hiiii. I love your reactions. You are so correct. All sound awesome in this one. They add more casual sass to it. Would you please react to Read My lips by Superfruit? It's a really funny video. You will love it 😃
outstanding version of this song by 7th Ave, which is Chris Rupp's group after he left Home Free. In fact, this was their first video as a group: ua-cam.com/video/cysQryH1GDc/v-deo.html
Their is a video out right now..Snarky Puppy with Lalah Hathaway. She sing triad chords yeah all three notes at the same time. No BS you have to see it Tara did a reaction to it and I thought she was gonna die. Its that good I promise.
This is another song where to me the original sounds like it has some PTX influence in it, but PTX actually takes it to another level far beyond what you'd imagine.

Its funny, a year or something ago Megan Trainors "No" was my jam. But now I’m studying music and this song is so unbelievingly boring and underwhelming. PTX version at least have chords or some melodies.
