I like that you point out the technical stuff that PTX does so well (especially Avi & Mitch In this case). It helps me appreciate their talent and skill so much more when you go into specifics. I know when something is good, but I don’t always know why. Really enjoyed this!
Agree! For later, after you've seen both of those--somewhere on UA-cam there's an amazing video that Gotye himself put out that's a compilation of covers of his songs. I think he called it "The Somebodys" or "Somebodies"--something like that. (And yes, of course he includes....) ETA: Just type Gotye Somebodies in the search bar here on UA-cam. Jerod, this could be a threefer! Gotye, PTX, and the Somebodies remix!
I have watched the Lorde original before and then PTX, much like you did. I remember thinking that Lorde was pretty good and then Pentatonix. WOW ...To me there is absolutely no comparison. PTX kills it every time. By the way, I really like these comparison reactions. It give a chance to compare and contrast and, at least for me, a chance to see just how much better PTX does (I have yet to find one that can compare) but then I don't think anything with instruments and, usually, lots of electronic enhancement can compare with good a capella.
Agreed. Loved the original Lorde version but when PTX did the cover, I didn't go back to Lorde's version. PTX just has a way of grabbing my ears. Love these comparison reactions. Keep up the good work!
Love the comparison videos! I have always thought this was the 'one' cover they've done where they 'out music'd' the original. Like you stated in Lorde's version, music was minimal but good. Pentatonix had more music with no instruments! That alone gives them the win, for me. Thanks again Jerod!
I love this one, too. It's so nice to hear Mitch do the lead, and the ending is amazing. I especially love Avi as a medieval prince. Lorde's version was very good, although, for me, the video didn't seem to match the song. Looking forward to more. A couple suggestions: Somebody That I Used to Know by Goyte, and No by Megan Trainor.
The video was supposed to be monotonous and kinda boring because that is what most teenagers lives are like, so in the song she says that she is okay with her and her friends having that type of life because they didn't come from money. So the video shows the two guys just doing normal everyday boring things like taking the bus etc... so the video and the song do match.
It's sad that you think most teenagers lives are so dull. The words of the song are strong and defiant - We don't care what you think is interesting or important. We're doing things our own way. And the video is like you said, monotonous and boring. That's why they didn't match for me. Anyway, it's just my opinion.
I don't think most teenagers lives are dull, my teenage years certanly weren't! I was just giving you another point of view of my interpretation of the video! Lorde has said in interviews that she wrote royals because she was listening to a lot of hip-hop and she said the songs all talked about partying, drinking, spending money and doing drugs and she said that SHE tought most teenagers lifes aren't like that! So I think that's why the video is kind of monotonous, because it just shows normal day to day things! And by the way I didn't mean boring in a bad way in my previous comment so there's no need to get upset at what i said, and I think it's fine you don't like the video, I wasn't trying to tell you what to think or change your opinion, I was just trying to put it in a different perspective! Sorry for this long answer but hopefully you can undertand what I meant with my previous comment better now!!
I was responding to your first comment that most teenagers lives are monotonous and boring, which made me sad. If that's not what you meant, then that's great. Peace!
You know, I love the comparisons you are doing here. I've seen both of those videos multiple times, but I've never watched them together and so I've never noticed so many similarities and differences before. It's great to keep it fresh in your mind like this. I appreciate it, thanks.
I swear I have heard every damn song 100's of times and yet every time I listen again I hear something I didn't before. Either stuff Kevin is doing in background or AVI or just the the High's in the background
This is the very 1st song i've heard about PTX back like 7 years ago. Man have they came a long way since! Not saying that it was bad or anything but they all matured so much.
You didn't mention the costumes. (Did you notice Mitch's bee earring?) I love how they're all dressed up in fake bling throughout the song, until the last scene when they're back to their regular, unpretentious selves. Avi looks like a 16th-century Russian prince. (Ahem...ah, just sayin'...)
I always found it a little weird how people call Mitch their queen but the way you described Avi compels me to call him my prince, even though that still sounds weird...
hey Jerod!! Another great reaction video! You know I really don't mind the technical aspects of your comments as I truly understand them. It is the main reason I choose to watch your reactions over anyone else! Your overall knowledge is key here. I have watched other reaction videos, but don't get the same enjoyment as watching yours. I like to know why a particular video is good, not just enjoy watching it -- anyone can enjoy a video, but it takes knowledge and expertise to really appreciate what is being done in a particular song/video. Keep up the great work, Jerod!! Love your reactions!!
I’d never heard Lorde’s version of this song before, and the funny thing is that when she was singing, I kept mentally hearing Mitch singing. I love these comparisons and your commentary on them. Thanks for doing them!
Plus the reason Pentatonix took it was you had the five singing it as friends while Lorde has layering of her and others but seeing the three singing and knowing their background this song fits them so well.
Oh boy!!! I hate to compare artists. Lord is Lord and Pentatonix is Pentatonix but I just love Pentatonix. I love their chemistry and they are so talented. Great reaction!!!. Can you please react to Morissette Amon Rock Medley. Thanks.
It's also getting kinda annoyung, he doesn't need to make them because he so far in the ass of PTX and their fans, because of the views. He will always say PTX is better, lol.
You're so knowledgeable about all the technical stuff and how acapella works, I'm going to suggest a very different song for you to react to by ptx. They released it Friday, August 28th as an audio version... but... It's "Making Christmas" from "A Nightmare on Elm Street"!!! ❤️ I tell you, they went Broadway with their voices! I could imaging them in their little haunted place.. with Mitch as Jack, singing and sing-talking.. Mitch gives us some maniacal and/or evil laughter and Matt's full, theatrical bass is stellar! I don't think we knew he could do that! It's a track from their upcoming Christmas Album abd I think it fits perfectly with the release near Halloween! My GOSH it's different and skilled! It's on Their Official UA-cam Channel and it's Making Christmas Official Audio. please check it out! Re: THIS reaction.. I'd never seen the Lorde Video but did recognize the song when I heard Pentatonix sing it. I love ptx's version! It's on my playlist. I think Mitch probably thoroughly enjoyed being able to say, "And I'm in love with being Queen"! 😉
I know I'm late but I just found your channel. Love it and keep up the great work!! A comparison for you is Macklemore & Lewis' Thrift Shop or Can't Hold Us by Macklemore alone. PTX did amazing covers of both of them. I promise you will be blown away by both of them.
Hi Jerod! Interesting analysis as usual. I appreciate how precise and articulate you are describing what you like about every performance. Quick question now: have you ever heard about Myles Kennedy, vocalist for Alter Bridge (mostly) and Slash (...and The Conspirators)? His voice is stunning! This man is also incredibly talented as a guitarist. I'm not going to ask you to listen to rock/metal (which I like very much actually...😊) but If you want to hear this guy's heavenly voice try the cover he made of "Levon" by Elton John. Just if you want to, on or off-screen. Cheers! Ciao! 🙂
I'm late to the game on this one, but I love your videos. My favorite version of this song is by Alex Boye. He adds an African rhythm to it that works SO well!
Compare two PTX christmas pieces: Silent Night live and the Jimmy Kimmel performance of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, also live. The different strengths of PTX will be clearly displayed, along with their live performance capabilities.
Please do comparisons to...... No by Megan Trainer. People will say you can’t do it because it used to be copyrighted but i heard they don’t do that anymore and I just saw another reactor to it about a month ago. Ride by twenty one pilots. PTX’s is live at a radio station but the audio is very good. I need your Love by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding. You did their return to the Sing Off performance but they do have an official video. I know I keep asking but Superfruit’s Bad 4 us can be compared to a cover by Mario Jose and Matt Bloyd. Please Also would you do comparisons to videos of theirs you’ve already reacted to? There are so many you’ve done that have videos from the original artists. I guess since you’re calling these comparisons it wouldn’t be that big of a deal to have it not be your initial reaction to a song and more just the differences and similarities between the original artist and PTX. Just a thought of how to get more to compare.
The ultimate compliment is when someone does your work. The reason being is that the work being redone is one of respect, why would someone rework some drivel.
I think Pentatonix does it better. To me the tempo drags in the Lorde version. Pentatonix enunciates clearly, their harmony is flawless and it has an upbeat tempo.
I guess I’m the only one who doesn’t prefer PTX over Lorde’s version. PTX just created a pop song that’s like the kind of music that Lorde was criticizing in the song, hence her minimalistic style. But to each his own, I guess.
Just out of curiosity, would you be willing to do a comparison between two Canadian cover bands: Pentatonix vrs Walk Off the Earth doing "Royals"...I would LOVE to hear your opinion between those two groups! PLEASE!
I like that you point out the technical stuff that PTX does so well (especially Avi & Mitch In this case). It helps me appreciate their talent and skill so much more when you go into specifics. I know when something is good, but I don’t always know why. Really enjoyed this!
Somebody that I used to know by Goyte compare contrast please and thank you 😁
Yesssss Please

Mitch is perfection on earth!!! Together Pentatonix is out of this world amazeballs!!

Awesome reaction - thanks! I love how you break down the details of WHY both were so well done :-)
I never noticed that Mitch had a bee earring on! Cool! Must because he's "Queen Bee"! 😊❤️
@@mecfstraveler Yep, exactly!
I always found it a little weird how people call Mitch their queen but the way you described Avi compels me to call him my prince, even though that still sounds weird...

I miss Avi's bass lines... thanks for doing this comparison.
Dan Bunch Have you heard ptx’s making Christmas? Gives me all the Avi feels.
Yes it was nice...good to see you here Julia.
I’m with you, nobody does the baselines like AVI
I’d never heard Lorde’s version of this song before, and the funny thing is that when she was singing, I kept mentally hearing Mitch singing. I love these comparisons and your commentary on them. Thanks for doing them!
Please react to pentatonix switching vocal parts and singing I need ur love. Its really fun.
yes an1231Ancy, that is a real HOOT!
If you want to see a group make a song their own, compare "Blue Ain't Your Color" by Keith Urban and Home Free. ... Guy

Don't mind at all really enjoying these comparison videos
i do think that PTX makes their covers better than orginial

They always have a great swing to what ever there singing.. They really sound like a super good band.
I never really preferred the original, although I like it more now that I’ve heard PTX’s version. I do like her lyrics.
I love their version so much!
hi jerod, kz tandingan also did royals in wish bus, you may watch it to yourself and listen to different flavor to the song...

This was the second video of theirs I watched when I found them.#BeAwesome
I would like to see some othe types of music. How about that guy you showed me on Britain’s got talent.
Compare two PTX christmas pieces: Silent Night live and the Jimmy Kimmel performance of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, also live. The different strengths of PTX will be clearly displayed, along with their live performance capabilities.
REACT TO "EVOLUTION OF LADY GAGA" BY SUPERFRUIT (!!)
I'm catching up on your videos. I'm sad I didn't meet you at Pentacon 2018. I hope I can at 2020.
the group Walk Off The Earth has a great cover of the song Royals you should check out.
Please do comparisons to......

Such a great video of theirs!!!
Oh my God, I don't think I've ever seen the video to this song!!
i love the original and i love mitch's lead here

Hey Jerod been slacking on your videos for awhile so I'm going to binge for a few hours. Its time for a good night.
you should have thrown in weird al's foil song with these,, he did a great parody of the song
You should check out Weird Al's version...;)
Sopranos??? Altos rule!!!! 😉

❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
PTX. does every song better!
PTX did it better. Lorde was so straight-faced and lacking any visual emotion.
There's got to be a remix with Lordes voice.
Just out of curiosity, would you be willing to do a comparison between two Canadian cover bands: Pentatonix vrs Walk Off the Earth doing "Royals"...I would LOVE to hear your opinion between those two groups! PLEASE!
