  • A year ago, my family and I drove my dad's Rivian R1T across the US, from Virginia to California (and back). Join us to see the sites and learn what the charging experience was like on a less race-like and more leisurely cross country EV road trip.

You’re driving my dream car! Very thorough info and good example of a road trip.

That day 2 stop in Michigan was in Ypsilanti, very close to where I live and work.
Always a good idea to have enough State of Charge to make the next charger even if you cannot charge overnight as the L2 charger at the hotel could be already in use, out of order, or otherwise unavailable.
We need to go into the I-80 Truck Stop the next time we are there. On the way to visit family in Colorado for Thanksgiving, we stopped there and used the Tesla Superchargers seen in many of those shots. (I know your trip was before any non-Tesla had access.) We went through much later than you as we started our day near Detroit.
That #1 station in Avoca was down over a year later.

Very good point about the state of charge to the next charger! Helpfully, a lot of of our hotels were also close to fast chargers - so if we’d had dead overnight charging, like in Colorado, we had a backup plan.
I-80 truck stop is definitely a fun way to pass the charging time! And a much better charging option with Tesla chargers now available.
Wild about that avoca stop! Such a complete lack of maintenance in some of these charging networks

Which state was the most scarce of chargers?
