I love this! Thank you for the video and tutorial. I actually have those tulip floral napkins so looking forward to trying this on my next project; a wooden book box. Thank you!
Hi Karen; this is such a fun technique, I love it. For the smudge on the white, some things you can do are make sure your glue is still wet and right to the edge when you burn, and then don't clean off the soot until your glue is completely dry. You can also use a slightly damp cloth or microfibre cloth to remove the soot and then put your topcoat on.
@@KarenBurchill I have done the same thing so I have played around with it a bit to find what works. By the way, thank you, I love watching your videos. I have learned a lot about art journal pages from you.
These are wonderful, and just so pretty, I’ve never done anything like this, it is so interesting, and fascinating to Watch. Hope I can find pretty napkins, so I can try some of these ideas, I’ve seen some before, but I thought They were hand painted, my daughter, told me they were called deco Podge. I just think they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us. 👍👍♥️
Love love love napkin art. I started out covering clothes pins and it was so fun an relaxing to do. My friends loved the chip clips. They think of me every time they see them. Even ordered wooden clothes pins with magnets for the frig. Your video is very good. Burning tip is great. Gotta try it. Houston here. New sub…..
I was so thrilled to see that you tried that napkin burn technique. Isn't it addictive? I've gone to Dollar Tree a total of 3 thimes just to find some pieces I wanted to do. The thin metal type words are so cool. I did notice that sometimes the napkin would burn off to where it let some of the bottom show and that probably just means that I didn't have enough glue to the end so I just added some more on and you'd never know. I do like how you trimed the napkin way closer to your piece than I did. That was great because it doesn't give you as much ash that way. On the wooden halloween signs I loved having some burn or ash marks cause it made it look distressed as though we went around it and inked it. It wasn't like that all over, just there at one bottom and I think that is cause I just kept going over it to burn the inside holes. You also were very smart to pop out your centers on the words. None of mine were big enough to worry about or so I didn't think but that would have been helpful even on the small type holes. See, you are brand new to this and still teaching me something new to do. :) Thank you so much!
The supplies for this are minimal and nothing "artist grade" is necessary. I used economy white gesso or regular acrylic paint on the wooden pieces, elmers glue stick but also used dollar store variety. On one I used fluid matte medium and I've seen some use modpodge...the glue stick is the easiest. Napkins go very translucent so painting out the wood color to preserve the brightness I feel is necessary but it is a personal choice. I either go neutral for paint or pick a color from the background such as the teal on the believe sign. Good luck.
Easier to remove the napkin layers by putting a tiny bit of glue between two fingers and touch the corner of the napkin. Comes right apart. That being said, the Believe sign and the letters, BEAUTIFUL!!
Thank you. K I like using painters tape....mainly because I always have it on my desk...but others may find glue works best for them....We have to share our tips so others can benefit. K
Hi, I love the burning edges tip. I'm not a huge fan of the M&B sign. The edges seem smudged. Maybe if you use puff paint the outline each letter it will pop. I love love love the believe sign. I was thinking you might want to spray the edges blue first, before jesso'ing the white letters. I like the peacock print but I was thinking a nativity or sunset passion scene napkin would be glorious as the believe print. I like the addition of gold. I love the flowery KB. Simple yet elegant.
I think the problem with using a dark color under the napkin is that when you glue the napkin on it goes transluscent and shows whatever color or pattern is underneath so unless my napkin had a dark background i don't think I would do that....you definitely could paint the sides a dark color....which I have done successfully. K
Love it.. I think painting the sides the teal or gold, gives it a lot of depth, so pretty.
You don't know unless you try....and if it works/you like it....do it more. K
Beautiful and clear and easy to follow instructions.
Thank you for your comment. Hope you give this a try. K
I love how you explained everything so clearly. You're 3 projects turned out so well. You've inspired me to have a go. Thank you.🤗

Your daughter is correct. There is so much you can do with decoupaging and napkins. Lots of videos and projects on UA-cam. K
This is a great method for decoupage clean up I love it, thank you so much for such a great tutorial.
You are so welcome! I couldnt believe this actually worked and was so easy. Got a couple burned napkin decoupage projects coming soon . K
Oh my goodness! It’s magical and I will give it a try! This is fabulous ❤️

I need to do another couple projects using this technique. Plus I have some ideas to put a spin on it. K

Have fun! Warning, it's addictive. K
This is soooooo kOoOoOL.
I'm gonna try also.✔️Thank you.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙂
Have fun with this technique. K
@@KarenBurchill I most certainly will.👋🏼☺️🌹
In the little holes in the letters, poke something up from behind so the napkin sticks up a bit, then do the fire from the front as usual.
Poking through the little holes work...but if you go from the front you may scorch/discolor the front napkin with the flame. K

These are beautiful but have you ever tried to finish them with a coat of Resin?
Never tried resin. Too expensive for this. Do you do lots of resin
I'm so impressed with this THANKS Karen hugs from Ontario
And it's so very simple....have fun. K
Good series. Try holding your piece upside down, to minimize ash and soot on your finished piece.
Great idea!
So beautiful and no painting involved
Exactly
I lov this process but do I have to use gesso r can I use acrylic paint thanks for all the infom ❤👍👍

Hi Karen that is awesome. What would one use to seal it once completed?
I use MinWax Polycrylic Varnish....satin finish...but there's a matte finish as well if you don't want shiny....You get this a hardware store. K
Can you use regular white paint to paint first on darker signs ?
Absolutely.
Could you have used black gesso on the white one instead of white gesso?
I think the problem with using a dark color under the napkin is that when you glue the napkin on it goes transluscent and shows whatever color or pattern is underneath so unless my napkin had a dark background i don't think I would do that....you definitely could paint the sides a dark color....which I have done successfully. K
Very interesting method I normally use mod podge or clear glaze to make napkin stick would this method work with the above materials????
Yes it will
So very cool. What kind of min wax was it?
MinWax is the brand. Polycrylic varnish
what sealant are you using?
Mod Podge?
Minwax Polycrylic varnish. I use satin finish
Maybe try blowing the burnt bits with a blow dryer ( low setting) instead of brushing it 🤷🏻♀️ might keep the smudging minimal
Yeah ..live and learn....by the time we are done we figure out how we should have done it. lOL
@@KarenBurchill Isn't that the truth 😂 been there myself.......many times. Great job and beautiful idea☺️👍
Could you use tissue paper?
I did try it..and yes it works. K
I can’t find the link to the napkins. Can you post it?

I like the technique. I think you need to cut out more stuff. This moved to slowly for me.
Thanks for watching .K
Could you use tissue paper ?
Yes it works with tissue paper....gift wrapping, rice paper.....each of course gives off a different amount of fumes.
