Thanks Mark, I definitely maxed out. I think the conditions cost me a little bit of time, but hard to know exactly how much. I was still very happy with how things turned out.
Thanks Tom. Yes, pushed very hard but just a bit short on that occasion of the sub 20 dream. Hopefully have another crack at it before the end of 2024, perhaps after my marathon training is done.
Brilliant effort. If you're ever up Lincolnshire way, you might want to try Market Rasen Racecourse. I got a sub-20 there as it's flat, tarmac, and has no sharp bends or turnarounds. I think it may be in the top ten fastest Parkrun courses in the country, even. I know this vid is three months' old but congrats on the PB.
Thanks David. I was actually looking for someone who might be able to pace me so I would definitely take you up on that offer. I'm a little bit under the weather this week, so unsure if I'll be in prime condition come this Saturday but maybe in the near future we can sort something out?
Thanks so much that means a lot! Glad the videos are worth watching and that you feel they are worth your time coming back to watch more of them. Hope i can continue to make them interesting.
Thanks so much. Yes I was chuffed with a lifetime PB, you can't be disappointed with doing something you've never done before. I'd love to hit that magical sub 20 number soon. It feels in reach, probably just need a few more things on the day to line up
@@RunSDJ negative split races always work best for me - just not too slow to start 😬. But a 4:05 first kilometre would set you up for sub-20. That’s 17 sec slower than your attempt in this vid, which is massive. You’d feel ready to push on rather than hanging on 🥵
Yeah I think you are probably right. I didn't deliberately go out that fast, just what my watch told me my split was 1km in, so I do think I probably overexerted too soon which meant I was flagging a bit on the final couple of KMs. I've had an offer of a pacer from another person commenting on the video, which I think would really help me.
Thanks so much! It’s tough trying to get those last few seconds but hopefully I’ll get it. Maybe I’ll have another go this summer between marathon plans. How close are you?
Thanks Aiden, appreciate the comment. I personally find Abbey Park a quicker course than Victoria. Aside from the bridge that you cross twice, there is literally no elevation on the course. V Park has that sweeping uphill starting at the medical centre that you have to do 3 times, which I always find an energy sapper. I also appreciate Abbey Park not being a multiple lap course, yes you pass some bits a couple of times, but it’s essentially a 1 lap course. I find Abbey Park a bit prettier also so it’s nice to run around.
There is an Abbey Park Parkrun specific video more in the style of my usual Parkrun ones from a couple of months ago that covers the course in a bit more detail etc.
What would you say is the hardest parkrun you have done in the uk ? Another factor in missing 20 min may have been not having several other runners slightly ahead of your pace who you could try and hang on to.
A tough one to answer but probably for how challenging the course was I’d say Beacon Hill. Yes, agreed. Because of the weather it was a bit quieter at Abbey Park than I expected. Someone has offered to pace me in future so I’m going to take up that offer I think as it’ll hopefully take any real thought out of it for me.
Lightning quick. Well done mate. On a dry day who knows what would've happened. Sounds like you pushed really hard 👍🏻🏃♂️

Great work mate! Pushed hard!

Thanks! It’s still my PB so not got that sub 20 yet. I’ll take a look at Market Rasen
Good effort! Congrats. Sub 20 is totally doable. I'll happily pace you. My local is abbey park.

@@RunSDJ definitely. I saw you post this on Strava so I'll message there. I go to parkrun most weeks so whenever works.
Great effort - as you say, hard to be too disappointed with a PB!
Fingers crossed for next time!
Oh absolutely. I couldn’t be too hard on myself achieving something I’d never done before. Still something to chase in the future.
Another PB, great job
Thanks very much! Only by a couple of seconds but it all counts! :D
Great effort! Proper willing you on all the way there. Was finding myself getting nervous at the 3rd km!
Thanks Amine. Glad I can create some drama in my editing! 🤣
Conratulations on your new lifetime PB :D I know you'll be able to get sub20 Soon.
Thanks very much Michael. I hope so!
Enjoying watching your videos lately. New sub

Lifetime PB is awesome! Can’t remember that feeling 😵💫. Too old now. But it’s all about the journey and targets personal to you. Well done.

@@RunSDJ yeah defo help being paced (held back 😂). I’ll watch for the update. No pressure ✊. Sub-20 is there!
Nice video! I'm chasing that sub 20 min 5km as well! Will keep an eye out for when you finally get it!

How far off from it are you, mate?
Great effort and video as always. How would you say this course compares to Victoria park?

Thonock Lane Parkrun was brutal in the winter. I did my very first Parkrun there when it was heavily snowing. Hands went blue.
