Excellent vids!! just starting tying my own winter hair jigs for river smallmouth in se pa. Winter is too long to sit still for me so if you have any suggested patterns for the Schuylkill River, bring em on. Thanks for sharing!!
James, I'm afraid pics of my shop won't help you. I'm as disorganized as can be and my tools I keep in a small Sterilite container. It is 11" high and has 5 drawers and my tools are put in those drawers. I have to shift stuff around every time I do a video. I have to make room so I have a spot to put the camera and the monitor. So my work bench is more of a mobile work station as everything on it is never in the same place for very long.
Bucktail is completely different that the Arctic Fox. If you want a substitute for the fox then you need to go with craft fur, here is what I use - barlowstackle.com/Pseudo-Hair-Imitation-Polar-Bear-Hair-P2778/?afmc=3c .
You earned my sub brother, this is cool stuff. Loving watching your work so far, never tied a jig myself but I thing I might have to get into it. You make great videos man.
Thank you for the compliment, it is appreciated!!! I pour my own jig heads and I believe the closest thing you'll find is the Owner Ultra football head but it uses the 5318 light wire hook and the 1/8oz uses a size #1 hook. You can use any hook and head combination you like with this jig, I've tied them on ball heads and I'd used size #1 hooks as well as some that were 2/0.
Hello good sir. Where does one get the small vice, the special kind of string, knot tie thing, and the "spooler" you use to wind the string? Bass pro carry that stuff?
Yes, Bass Pro has everything you need. The vise is a Griffin Odyssey Spider vise www.basspro.com/shop/en/griffin-spider-vise . The "spooler" is called a bobbin www.basspro.com/shop/en/dr-slick-ceramic-bobbin . The knot tool is a whip finisher www.basspro.com/shop/en/dr-slick-rotary-whip-finisher . The thread I use is Danville flat waxed nylon 210 denier www.basspro.com/shop/en/danville-flat-waxed-nylon-thread .
I throw this in both river and lake, mostly river but in lakes it is a really good pattern during the early fall when the water temp drops overnight but warms during the day. It is really good for post frontal conditions and is one of those jigs that does well in water temps from 60 degrees down to the low 40s.
Great informative and instructional videos!!! Keep em coming!!!
Thank you Donnie!!!!
Where do you get most of your maribou, rabbit strips?
