"Well there goes that dream" -- such a simple yet heartbreaking and memorable line.
The nuance of Barry's body language was top tier, like the very last part: the way his body/posture/head sort of "drops" (while taking off his cap) after coming out empty handed from that bold act he just did....
Thanks for your continuous love and support CDCPH❤️❤️
For how long have you been a fan of mine CDCPH??
Never saw Barry before this. Brilliantly acted throughout, totally genuine, authentic, nuanced, fantastic part, totally deserved BAFTA (I was so hoping he’d get it, n he did😁) I’ve known damaged ties like this in my life, so really pleased to see this portrayal: naturally awkward, but proud, direct, intelligent, honest, witty - totally enthralling, sad, entertaining, the whole deal! Totally loved it!!😁
Great, great actor
You will not realise how amazing this scene is was until you see the true darkness Barry has been through in the movie.
Brilliantly written script with many layers, brilliantly acted scenes
and beautifully filmed
Great point
But remarkably no cinematography nominations anywhere for Ben Davis.

Are you spoofing? This doesn’t look at all genuine..🤔
Just realised Barry Keoghan repeated what Dominic says at 1:19 "should have planned this really" when he won the BAFTA award. Lol! Good one Barry

This scene sticks in the memory for a long time after watching the film, seeing the words on paper, it's hard to imagine how McDonagh thought this through with the pauses etc, Barry Keoghan was outstanding in this role, really deserved his Bafta, likewise Kerry Condon, in my mind they outshone Farrell and Gleeson and surely they will be rewarded at the Oscars also.
His history as a play-wright is where that natural sense of rhythm comes from.
@@rawluxurious6907 perhaps, but also Barry Keoghans delivery is amazing, could be collaboration between the two.
Yes I agree and hope Barry gets the Oscar. Although oscar is no longer such a big deal, the politics and all, a win for Barry would show some hope that oscar can still get it right from time to time. He won most of the film critics award groups plus the BAFTA which is really something. This is a classic fine tuned understated supporting performance. Any good film critic and top quality veteran fine actor/actress will tell you there is a great deal of skill and talent needed to convey such powerful emotions, heartfelt moments with pauses, silence and control of facial muscles. This guy is going places.
Two Oscar worthy performances. In an Oscar worthy film from an Oscar worthy screenplay. God damn Martin you have truly outdone yourself with this gem.
@@JeanHuguesNumeroOne uhhh the two in this scene..?

You are obvious bogus Farrell trying to collect subscribers.. be ashamed; don’t try fooling people, it’s v bad taste n not good for Farrell either. Grow up.
@JeanHuguesNumbeoOne : Can ye not count ?
Barry Keoghan's sublime performance in this great movie is a classic, perfect, understated, nuanced supporting performance. He says more with a tilt of his head, a pause, silence, posture and those intense eyes. I hope he gets the oscar. Brendan Gleason's part was larger, so imo he should have gotten an oscar nomination for best lead actor, as was Colin. However, Barry clearly gives the best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a motion picture this season. Easy to see why he won the BAFTA and numerous critics awards. The guy is a huge talent.
Excellent writing, acting, and directing, this scene is truly heartbreaking and yet also quirky and funny.

The Oscars will lose any remaining credibility they’re clinging to if Barry doesn't win Best Supporting Actor for this. Amazing performance
Absolutely. Barry Keoghan is a Huge talent and gives an incredibly sublime understated performance, says volumes with pauses of silence, head tilts, and those eyes!
The Oscars definitely lost a lot of credibility this with regards to this film
@@davidhoffmann6771 Yes, few people respect the oscars anymore, it's all political and marketing. Oh and the block voting where if someone likes a movie, apparently as in the case this year with Everything..... they vote for it in every single category. Clearly Martin McDonaugh who won the Golden globe, BAFTA and almost all the major film critics groups was robbed of the oscar for best original screenplay; similarly with Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon who both won the BAFTAs, numerous film critics awards groups, both should have won supporting oscars, Glad for these three guys who helped make the beautiful piece of art- The Banshees of Inisherin the masterpiece it is, in particular Martin, Barry and Kerry and also of course Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason who received numerous nominations as well.
Breaks my heart everytime.
I really hope Martin McDonagh gets his second Oscar for Original Screenplay, because this is really great script!
@@dariussalepetru6770 I’m not mad at Everything Everywhere All At Once, but this has the better dialogue out of all the nominees
@@dariussalepetru6770 I hoped as well, and he did not, as the oscars are becoming less credible, many voters are stupid and if they like a movie ie Everything.... they vote for it in almost all categories, without considering although ie I feel this actress was best in this film I think this other film has a much better original screenplay. Very/extremely disappointed in Martin McDonagh not getting best screeenplay and adorable Barry not getting best supporting actor, however this young guy is a huge talent and I am confident he'll be around for three decades plus with many awards to come.
Realizing now the "ghoul" was beckoning to Dominic.
Another commenter wrote something similar. What would that mean? I am not disagreeing with you but I am wondering why the ghoul would beckon poor, sweet Dominic? Was her intent malevolent ie to have him attempt to swim and then drown? Not sure. What is your take on it? Thanks. Such a great motion picture with outstanding acting especially imo by Barry and Kerry
@@155gerard As if in a dream, the body of water, with the old crone, is like the Grim Reaper beckoning Dominic across the Styx to 'the other side'.
Such a humane thing after knowing the whole movie this scene really breaks ones heart
A masterclass. Thank you for doing this types of videos! And thank you for this amazing movie! Every aspect was sublime.
Give this a physical 4k release!
Two Oscars in the scene, one for best supporting actor another for supporting actress
Ke will likely win supporting actor unfortunately. And Angela will probably win supporting actress (fortunately)
@@lilmilontiktok Why unfortunate ?
Barry was totally brilliant. What are you saying?!🤔
Good film.
Have you ever seen Chariots of Fire? Neither have I. I tried a dozen times and fell asleep within 5 minutes each attempt. That pretty much sums up the Oscar’s for me. I keep trying to find something enjoyable to watch, but usually settle on the films with poor ratings and negative reviews. I do want to check out Banshees, however.
I hated what the thing over there that was whatever that thing over there that he wanted to was. *sigh*
Heartbreaking.
I hear you. I wept big time at that scene, in many ways can relate. His performance was spot on, nuanced, understated and doing such a perfect monologue is far from easy. A few other commentators wrote that they felt the "ghoul" was beckoning poor, sweet Dominic. I am not sure and I wonder what her intention would be if so. Would it be malevolent, as to have him attempt to swim across and then drown? I guess if the lake was not huge, he could have walked around it to talk with her. I am 99 percent sure (SPOILER ALERT to anyone else reading, here it comes, Warning, so stop reading please) that Dominic took his own life but 1 percent hoping that maybe it was an accident, ie he slipped and did not know how to swim or was not a good enough swimmer. I believe from your heartfelt comment that you understand it to be that he couldn't go on and didn't want to live when all hope for love was gone. Anyway, the fact that this scene moves so many people deeply speaks volumes of the directing and acting by the hugely talented Barry Keoghan plus I guess the tears many shed tells us that the world still has some humanity. Take care, thanks for your comment
@@155gerard I know right. He was just a lost, disillusioned, f--ked up lad looking for love. He lost it fraternally in Padraic when he turned out to be like 'everyone else' and could not get it in Siobhan romantically. Life was bleak behind the jokes and mischief. Hate that I know how he felt.
@@smosuro I agree with you except I wouldn't say he was f'd up which suggests kind of a psychiatric mess imo he had some physical handicaps and cognitive issues, perhaps illiterate, learning disabled even very mildly educable retarded, but of course a good kid/lad in his heart. Some commenters have said that Siobhan could have softened the blow, less rejection if when he asked - when I'm your age maybe, could she have said - well Dominic know one knows the future, I could maybe, you'll be more mature then, and also you're such a fine lad there will be other young women besides me over the next ten or so years. But then some have said her honesty was the best way to approach it. SPOLIER ALERT< IF ONE is Reading as has no yet seen the film, so stop reading, here goes: If you don't mind giving your opinion, unless it's too painful-believe me I understand, how do you sense he actually ended his life-if he drowned via suicide it could have been a rocks in the pocket thing like say Virginia Woolf or perhaps he walked in knowing he couldn't swim and intended to drown and end it all. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but is it possible it was accidental, as in he was a fair swimmer, not very good and got weak, currents, hypothermia etc... I guess it is obvious it was not accidental. No love and a vile sadistic mentally and physically abusive sicko for a daddy.
@@155gerard I think it is easier looking back, even for Siobhan herself, to say she could have softened the blow. She was going for honesty which in the light of what followed seemed less sensitive. You are right about the life he lived, his abusive dad and all that. His drowning... I think he intended to drown himself. These unfortunate thoughts unfortunately bear a numbness, he would have just gone in.
She'll regret turning him down after watching Saltburn
Incredible overrated movie. Definitely a case of the Emperor's new clothes.
were you a fan of their other film together, In Bruges?
@@andrewwood763 it's not overrated. It truly is brilliant. Just see it for what it is and forget the oscar hype
@@andrewwood763 it is certainly not overrated, not only does it have extremely high audience reviews, a record number of nominations in all of the film awards this year, plus it won several film critics awards for the actors, director and screenplay.
You prefer Snakes on a Plane? Maybe Fast n Furious?
