As an SLP in acute care, this makes me miss the OP setting! Your clinical excellence and passion for what you do is so evident. I’m inspired!! I hope to be this level of amazing!!
yes I would love to see a video about a swallow exam. Love your videos, I just stumbled upon them! I'm in grad school and will be having a medical placement soon and I was really nervous, but this definitely makes me feel more confident :) you go girl!!
So glad I found your channel 🙌🏽 I will be starting my undergrad for Speech Pathology in January 2020 at ODU so I have a LOOONG way to go but it’s nice seeing what the future holds for me!
This video was amazing and so helpful! You have such a sweet and warm personality, I can tell that if I was in need of SLP therapy and going through a tough time, you’d make me feel hope and a sense of positivity 😊
I loved this! Honestly would have preferred if this video was longer lol! I'm a first-year grad student and although I love all aspects of the field, my goal is to work in the medical setting and this video makes that goal even stronger for me!
I got accepted into grad school for the Fall2021 and I want to work with the geriatric population and I'm specifically interested in AD Dementia, stroke, Aphasia, Dysphasia, TBI, and starting to be more interested in Parkinson's. This is the setting I feel like I would be able to interact with all these groups and conditions considering the length of time I want to be part of their journey. Thank you for sharing!
I love your channel!! So much great information!! Thank you for putting this out. I wanted to know what your thoughts are for becoming a SLP later in life. I am 29 years old and have worked in insurance and finance. It’s left me feeling very unfulfilled. I came across SLP as a career and fell in love with the field but I’m worried that it may be too late for me (the time, the debt etc). I’m also bilingual and love to help others so I thought this would be a great fit for me. I don’t have kids yet but would like to have them eventually. What advice do you have for people wanting to switch to this field later in life? Do you know if any of your colleagues make that switch? Thank you :)
Thank you! Girl it is NEVER too late! There was a woman in my cohort on grad school who was 55! If you are passionate about the field, I say go for it! There is huge demand for bilingual SLPs these days as well. Do your research as far as program requirements (required courses) and tuition costs. There are also online speech programs that you can look into (NYU has a good one)!
@@bizzyb912 swallowing tests are outpatient procedures meaning the patients come in to the facility to have it done. They can be completed by both inpatient and outpatient SLPs
Hi Lauren, I have wanted to be an SLPA for a long time now. Is it worth going to school to be an SLPA w/o the intention of becoming an SLP? I really want to work with people and am not interested in heaps of documentation or taking work home. Also, in this career are the majority of positions contract or permanent? Thanks, love your videos!
Hey! That's a great question! I'm honestly not sure, but would say if that's what your heart is set on, go for it! Are you wanting to work with kids or adults? Contract positions depend on the company. There are contracting companies that hire you to work directly with an employer (like a school system or hospital); The position would still be a permanent position. Travel therapy typically is contract in the sense that you may only work 13-weeks at a given location.

I have a student who stutters. What methods can I use with him to form more of his words?
How old is he? Is he seeing a speech pathologist?

Hi there, ( Aspiring SLP here) Are barium swallow tests typically not done in outpatient? Or doesn’t depend on where you work?

@@Thewellthyslp Thank you for your response. Makes sense now.
