My love for exotic cars started with High Stakes too! It was something so special about being able to own one of these exotic cars you earned and put it all on the line to win your friends pink slip! If you wasn't ready at the beginning of the race, there was absolutely nothing you could do if you failed. It was so realistic and exhilarating to behold! It was so way ahead of it's time. It would take your memory card and hold it hostage until you won the race. Even if u tried to unplug the console or snatch out the memory card, it would say exactly what you did and how you forfeited the race! Just insane attention to detail. Great video 👌
Best NFS ever and its not even close. Great video. You noticed all the awesome things I did. One thing I feel is worth a lot of praise is the way they did damage. And how you had to pay for the cost of damage. The awesome reward of not taking any damage and making that much more money off the race was incredible
I got my first PS1 for my 11th birthday - best present I ever got btw. But my dad said I could pick a game out, and for some reason I decided to choose this game. What a great choice it was though. I spent countless hours and days playing this. My favourite car would have either been the Porsche 911 Turbo, or the McLaren F1 GTR, both cars I still love to this day! I used to use a cheat code, which when activated, you would use your horn and it would give you a speed boost and knock any cars in your path out of the way. Watching this footage back now, I really makes me appreciate how much of a beautiful game it was for its time. This game will always hold a special place in my heart.
Some people would see High Stakes like just a more complete version of NFS3, and therefore, much better (like Worms World Party/Armageddon kind of thing), and while i agree than High Stakes is a masterpiece and without any doubt a top 3 of the series, this would be very unpopular, but i still prefer NFS3 for only two reasons, the handling on rain that is so stiff (unless you use a fully upgraded Porsche 911 Turbo or the Mclaren), and all the padding it has the career mode and unlocking the cars in the hot pursuit mode. NFS4 is the most complete experience, but NFS3 imo was the most refined and consistent one. I understand why people prefer High Stakes though, and it still lived up to the magnificence of NFS3.

Best need for speed and also some of the best handling physics in any nfs game. I also used to crash nemesis out. If he ever hit third, his ai had a glitch so he would just fall back the field
The thing that NFS HS gets right, and modern racing games get wrong about music… is that in HS, you feel like the songs are the soundtrack to your epic racing or car chase scene in a movie. The songs feel organically connected to the action, they make you feel like the star. Modern games rely almost entirely on licensed music, which doesn’t feel special, doesn’t feel connected to the racing. It’s just music you can hear on the radio or anywhere else, at any time.
If I can continue with a few more thoughts. Imagine an NFS game with physics on the level of gran turismo or rFactor or someting like that. With an option to setup handling from anywhere from arcade to full simulation that way the game can cater to all audiences and experience levels. Please bring back thematic tracks, snowy alpine region, beach side, desert, some city, etc.... Full support for steering wheels. Make the graphics sharp and smooth. Thats a difference between the old NFS 1 to 5 and later ones, I have researched the newer games and I think nfs u, u2, most wanted and carbon can be played and have some enjoyment. After that EA lost the plot on NFS, they went with different developers, styles, game engines etc.... I think even if the old developers came back that made the old school nfs games and suggested something simmilar for ps5, xsx, pc, the bosses at ea would tell them, no, were keeping it hollywood style, that sells. For me a racing game is not just about racing, its also to drive in a pretty environment, and race with friends online and have fun after a day at work etc.... Gran turismo is a great game but it has its flaws, I think its too clinical, they should maybe new thematic tracks, a nos option, to liven things up a bit 😃 Maybe add a story with characters, make it more human, they could add full motion video etc... As for the next nfs game i dont have high hopes, its probably more of the same.
The ps1 version is awesome. I have the PC versions of NFS III hot pursuit and high stakes and the car models just look strange in high stakes on the PC. Also they didn't give the PC version of high stakes the "local police" option. back when this came out I would rent it every weekend for ps1. The joy of grabbing that jewel case and seeing the plastic case behind it was just awesome. My two favorite cars were the 911 Turbo, and the Corvette.
Played it on pc when it came out. Although I had spent more hours playing Most Wanted, the trademark of which was police chases and something I enjoyed A LOT, nothing beats High Stakes in the world of racing games imo. The career mode was fulfilling, diverse, rewarding, not something a player was handed over to beat in one day and move on to the next game. The sheer amount of maps, locations, cars in it. In 2020, it's still able to keep you invested if you don't grab on to the graphics instead of the experience. A solid "A+", and someone in the future is ought to make a remastered of it. Desirably on a custom made engine that doesn't take up hundreds of HDD gigabytes.
I totally agree! By far my favorite NFS. The unfortunate thing is, I don't know if it would be popular by today's standards tbh. The attention span and expectations of gamers have changed and I think this particular kind of game hasn't aged well. But hey, we can still play the original! :)
The old nfs games from 1 to 5 were in a different enviroment than the later nfs games. A special nfs place. Starting with hot pursuit 2 it started going more hollywood, fast and furious style, made for teenagers full of hormones and young adults. The older nfs games were more artistic in track design. The later ones are going for an action movie aestetic. For me it is very important that the game developer respects the players time and effort, some newer nfs games just feel like they are made with no artistry and precision put into it. Look at gran turismo, they at least put effort to make it high quality, a car lovers game. I think nfs should go away from the hollywood style, but it seems like the bosses at ea ordered nfs to be like that.

NFS 3 for sure is better than HS in every aspect. I put HS third after HP, PU. Oh, and PC only and forever.
