- Houthis have claimed to target U.S. aircraft carrier Eisenhower for the second time in 24 hours in the Red Sea. The Yemeni rebels claimed they attacked the U.S. carrier with missiles and drones. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree also said that the militant group also targeted a U.S. destroyer. U.S. Centcom later said that its destroyer Gravely was targeted by the Houthis. @@ebiekem I have absolutely no idea what the original operational or deployment time frames were to begin with for the Eisenhower. Ships are constantly on the move, constantly being replaced by other ships, provisions, refueling, maintenance/ repair, and other engagement commitments. It may have been an extension of an earlier scheduled deployment. They can keep naval personnel deployed at sea for only so long. If this was already an extended deployment time may have simply been up. Perhaps another carrier group will take over responsibility.
One thing I can say is that what I'm hearing now sounds like obvious moral building for the troops or just silly propaganda. I've already heard reports of it being sunk on multiple occasions. You couldn't cover up an aircraft carrier being struck as you would have thousands and thousands of witnesses. The American press would absolutely devour a story like this. I remember when the USS Vincenes accidentally shot down an Iranian civilian aircraft. That made headlines immediately and that would have been 10 times easier to try to cover up.

With a big enough swarm attack, coming at various altitudes, some missiles will hit target. But it would take scores of missile hits to severely damage a carrier, worth noting the live fire exercise years ago using the decommissioned USS America as target. It took days of repeated attacks to finally sink the ship. And she had no crew aboard to effect damage control measures.
