We're Creole and usually Croeles add tomatoes to their dishes and the Cajuns don't, but even I don't add them to gumbo. Its worth a try though. That looks delicious.

We would like to try some of your recipes but since "everyone's cooking is different", you don't give specifics (how much water to the rue...etc.) . Could you do videos on your crawfish stew with some specifics to give us a starting point? Also, if Keith could give us a step-by-step on boiling shrimp or crabs with potatoes, corn, onions, etc. Maybe we need a DLLife cookbook! Thanks for all you do! LAIGHTUUHH!

Very respectful young Man and he is obviously enjoying all of y’all’s adventures. These are the things I did as a kid growing up in Louisiana. We had a houseboat on Bayou Corn and we would motor out to Lake Verret and tie up to the same big Cypress tree and fish for Sac-A-Lait during the day and catch frogs at night. Seems crazy but we even water skied on that lake, with all those trot lines. Hope to meet yall one day, we are currently in Arizona and missing Crawfish sooo bad .

I'm fixing to cook a gumbo next week. Gonna do a chicken sausage shrimp. No Okra this time. I'm even going to get my roux predone. Grabbing some rotisserie chicken., precut seasoning. The guidry brand. Double d hot sausage, my brand of Tony's. I make their recipe but I add sea salt and habanaro powder to mine. Some tobasco in the gumbo. Finish it with green onions. I do rice and potato salad and some crusty buttered French bread.. Dat's me tho.

Up here in Illinois my wife makes gumbo 2-3 times a year. For our gumbo my wife uses cod fish, shrimp and andouille sausage. She also makes a rue, uses okra, cayenne pepper (not red pepper flakes). We put the cooked white rice in a bowl and put the gumbo on top. The gumbo tastes even better after it sits in the refrigerator. I'll mention to her about the vinegar.
That gumbo looks.amazing. Keith has been around that foosball a bit and it shows. My husband loves.to play but the beers take over and the skill goes down. :)

Just found your channel, and loving it. The gumbo looks just like the wife's. She boils her chicken first, then makes her gumbo in the stock. But she uses jar roux, but I learned from Tara how to make some quick roux. My mom used to make her roux in the oven. She is cajun. Keep staying Cajun strong!

Tha old man down in Iberia Parish showed me how to clean the gizzards and liver to put in that gumbo and another showed me how his grandmother made a rue, I never knew how to make gumbo but now knowing some of those old ways of doing it my gumbo is as good as any Tennessee country boy can get to be authentic, being from up north and all.

when i cook something i dont measure anything when its done i call it a train wreck one day i took a can of oysters and old kentucky colonel seasoned flour, garlic salt, old bay seasoning, and cayenne pepper put it in a bag shook it all up good then fried it it was good justin wilson cooked something similar to that !😊
Ya'll made it look easy. I'll bet it is good. But of course you put in about 4 or 5 hours of work the night before...ha, ha. But that's what makes it so good. Love you guys.

@@datlouisianalife - I recently went on a fly fishing & camping trip...in camp I made an awesome quick Hot Dog chili...took one can of Hormel chili w/ beef and one can of Rotel...blended that together and diced a half a white onion into it. Cook for a few minutes...made a great quick hot dog chili. Lived a lot of my life in south Louisiana just west of Lafayette. Many friends and family still there, but I left the state in 2003 on a career move. Lived in Virginia, and both Carolinas..in North Carolina now. Louisiana will always feel like "Home"...but fly fishing trout, camping, and backpacking the Appalachian hills is pretty great too.

A lot of people don't use tomatos but Tara loves Rotel in the GUMBO and I'm a fan of it too. I never tried alligator gumbo.

@@datlouisianalife - I recently went on a fly fishing & camping trip...in camp I made an awesome quick Hot Dog chili...took one can of Hormel chili w/ beef and one can of Rotel...blended that together and diced a half a white onion into it.
Cook for a few minutes...made a great quick hot dog chili.
Lived a lot of my life in south Louisiana just west of Lafayette. Many friends and family still there, but I left the state in 2003 on a career move. Lived in Virginia, and both Carolinas..in North Carolina now. Louisiana will always feel like "Home"...but fly fishing trout, camping, and backpacking the Appalachian hills is pretty great too.
