    There was a time that you could only see this kind of stuff if you were a MetClub member. It wasn't on UA-cam within minutes of being released. They'd send a VHS tape with a can full of stuff. You'd watch it on your little 20 inch TV with your VCR and it was the greatest fucking thing ever.

      Of all time LoL. You need to Branch out your musical knowledge. There are many metal bands that are so much more versatile and actually do sound good no matter what they're playing. Metallica when not playing trash sound like they are trying way to hard to be something they clearly are not. I love Metallica but they suck at writing good songs nowadays.

      Sometimes you get to hate a song just to hear it for a couple of days, imagine these guys who have to do it over and over, every day, for years. Who can blame them for wanting to do something else. It's their band, not mine and if I do not like it, I hear something else. It's full of music out there.

      Amalokch they are definitely real musicians. but the range of style displayed in load is very small when viewed in the greater scheme of music.
      load is still heavy metal with the same instrumentation, basic rock rhythms and very simple riffs.

    • @anatreyu1986
      @anatreyu1986 4 роки тому +8

      Not refreshing, the "tough metal era" was ending at the time. They need to fix his style and ALL to keep his place on the music bussines. All music is mainstream, even the bands who pretend to be against it. In that time Nu Metal made his appearance in the bussines, all kind of Pop too, all mainstream. This is his job, that's why i don't complain about it, they need to make money like all the people around the globe.

      Actually in their biography they admitted that it was all Lars' idea to change the band's image and music because the music climate had changed a lot since the release of the Black album and a lot of their peers had broken up, or were playing in smaller clubs again. Lars was scared the same thing would happen to Metallica. So Lars proposed a change in their image/music. Kirk went along with it, but Jason and James hated it. Jason even stormed out of a band meeting when they showed the album art for Load, because he hated it so much. James eventually went along with the changes because he felt that if he went along with it than it was more likely that the end result would be better than if he fought it, he also stated in their biography, and more recently in interviews, that without Cliff he felt he didn't have an ally against all the changes in the band. He said Cliff would have liked the music but wouldn't have gone along with the image change. James said the only thing he liked about playing all the alternative festivals at the time was that it felt good to be hated again. James apparently hated the look of the band so much that he went so far as to tear the band pictures from his personal copy of the CD. Kirk even later admitted that they went too far with the image change. What James had to say about St. Anger was "at least the music was angry again." Load really was Metallica in full panic/survival mode in the 90's. Load still only sold half the amount as the Black album, and Reload sold half as much as Load.

    Because I had no prior experience to pull from, I thought they were solid hard rock albums.
    Then as I branched out my mind was blown when this same band also wrote Master of Puppets!
    I totally get why fans of strictly Metal or fans that grew up with Metallica during the thrash years would hate this, but this Pog playing kid of the 90's digged all the Metallica era's.

    I’m 39 now, and started getting into music around 12 or 13, and I specifically remembered the Black Album being one of the first cassettes my older sister handed down to me, so that was my initial introduction to Metallica. Then when Load and ReLoad came along I bought those CD’s and loved them. It wasn’t until I was about 18 or 19 that I got my first taste of the early albums and that was when I really cemented Metallica as one of my all time favorite bands. An older cousin was into metal, and when he showed me Kill Em All, Justice, Puppets and Lightning it was just a revelation to me. But I think the reason I’ve been able to appreciate Metallica like I can to this day is because of the order in which I was introduced to their music. Nowadays Hardwired is one of my favorite records by them, I consider it superior to Death Magnetic and a true return to their metal roots.

Those were the shit around that time, but quickly got outshined by the digital 8-tracks that came out a year or two later. I still have a TASCAM 688, the same one James is pointing to in this, and I still use it. It's a very careful process because the widths of the tracks are super narrow to fit onto an eight inch of cassette tape, but it's got character for days and the workflow is more direct without 100 choices to distract you. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.
