I love "Load". They are the Bob Dylan metal band in the sense that they stay true to their creativity as artists, and to hell for those who cry "sell out."
As a child of the 90's Load and ReLoad we're my first introduction to Metallica. Because I had no prior experience to pull from, I thought they were solid hard rock albums. Then as I branched out my mind was blown when this same band also wrote Master of Puppets! I totally get why fans of strictly Metal or fans that grew up with Metallica during the thrash years would hate this, but this Pog playing kid of the 90's digged all the Metallica era's.
Same here. End of the 90s: As a 12 year old I started listening to Reload on my walkman and it blew my little socks of. Then over a good period of time bought all the other albums load, black, ajfa, master and kill'em all last with the small amount of pocket money I had at my disposal. I appreciate every album of them.
I typed in "metallica load recording", on the off chance that there might be a picture online somewhere. To find this is just incredible. It is like being a fly on the wall + time travelling. We take these things for granted. We live in strange times. Load and Reload will forever be my favourite Metallica. This footage is such a treat.
nothing better than behind the scenes metallica, especially this era that i didn’t pay much attention to. love everything from james mullet to all the little antics, switching instruments, having fun. def. need to revisit the load era albums!
The part with Kirk driving the contest winners around comes off like he’s that sketchy uncle that watched you once and made you wait in the car while he had to go take care of some “errands”.
I’m 39 now, and started getting into music around 12 or 13, and I specifically remembered the Black Album being one of the first cassettes my older sister handed down to me, so that was my initial introduction to Metallica. Then when Load and ReLoad came along I bought those CD’s and loved them. It wasn’t until I was about 18 or 19 that I got my first taste of the early albums and that was when I really cemented Metallica as one of my all time favorite bands. An older cousin was into metal, and when he showed me Kill Em All, Justice, Puppets and Lightning it was just a revelation to me. But I think the reason I’ve been able to appreciate Metallica like I can to this day is because of the order in which I was introduced to their music. Nowadays Hardwired is one of my favorite records by them, I consider it superior to Death Magnetic and a true return to their metal roots.
this is their best period for my.... heavy blues they do the best, it brings out their soul more than thrash does. metallica in the 90s and Down, bringing out a heavy blues sound.
Load is a super underrated album. I hated it like everyone else when it came out, till a friend told me to give it a chance. Now it's one of my favorites. So many good songs. Just different.
As an 80's/Black Album era Metallica loving kid in High School when Load came out, I almost forced myself to like it. Years later, I absolutely LOVE those albums. While there are a few clunkers, there are some badass, underrated songs between Load and Reload. The Thorn Within jumps out immediately to me.
the load albums had a lotta great music on them. i hardly ever hear people talk about " the thorn within" such a great song. I love Lars drums on it too. 🥁 😊
I love that they were doing their demos onto an 8-track cassette Portastudio. Those were the shit around that time, but quickly got outshined by the digital 8-tracks that came out a year or two later. I still have a TASCAM 688, the same one James is pointing to in this, and I still use it. It's a very careful process because the widths of the tracks are super narrow to fit onto an eight inch of cassette tape, but it's got character for days and the workflow is more direct without 100 choices to distract you. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.
No other band has done anything like this before or after. Give of themselves to return the love to fans. Crazy. These fans got something really special.
He was definitely between hairstyles here. I don't think I knew, or maybe forgot, that Kirk embraced the Load era makeover earlier than James and Lars. Maybe in my head I have some image of them all sitting in chairs getting made over at the same time.
I feel Load and ReLoad would make perfect albums if you put them together, but took out all of the filler and corny shit. Keep the tracks like King Nothing, Memory Remains, Bleeding Me, Until It Sleeps, Where the Wild Things Are, Fuel, etc. And you’d have a perfect follow up to the black album
@@RejectedRecords1998 no man, he's right, take out some of those filler songs and keep the really good stuff. You have one amazing album. THE FACE OF DECEPTION OF THE FANS WHEN LISTENING TO THE NEW TRACK!! 19:45
Laugh hard that part
😂😂😂
Yeah they didn’t get into it at all😂
I fucking love LOAD one of my favourites wished they'd play more of it live these days. Thanks for this dude.
I think me and you are the only ones that I know of.... That remember pogs lol
I had all the OJ Slammers lol
Same here. End of the 90s: As a 12 year old I started listening to Reload on my walkman and it blew my little socks of. Then over a good period of time bought all the other albums load, black, ajfa, master and kill'em all last with the small amount of pocket money I had at my disposal. I appreciate every album of them.
Favourite Metallica album. Outlaw... Bleeding Me... King Nothing... Until it sleeps.... Hero of the day.... All awesome

LMAO 😂😂😂 they're all the old balding metal heads who go to shows rockin' solo..
@Gary White wow, I've never seen someone being so wrong
@Gary White they didnt cut their hair as a group
6:53 James absolutely roasts Lars
Lars: “How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb”?
Me: “Let me know when you find a drummer”.
I typed in "metallica load recording", on the off chance that there might be a picture online somewhere. To find this is just incredible. It is like being a fly on the wall + time travelling. We take these things for granted. We live in strange times. Load and Reload will forever be my favourite Metallica. This footage is such a treat.
3:42 _"Right now what were doing, is we're just kinda riding."_
I don't think Lars has this whole commentary thing down yet. Lol
James and Lars do have a great vision . the load album is a classic and is a very underated album
nothing better than behind the scenes metallica, especially this era that i didn’t pay much attention to. love everything from james mullet to all the little antics, switching instruments, having fun. def. need to revisit the load era albums!
Holy Tucked in Raiders jersey and mullet
Jacaso Asheland lol
😂
Howie Long looks skinny in that mullet wig 😅
Load/Reload are incredible.
The part with Kirk driving the contest winners around comes off like he’s that sketchy uncle that watched you once and made you wait in the car while he had to go take care of some “errands”.
I miss the 90s!
I've been waiting 20 years to see this! Thank you!!
this is their best period for my.... heavy blues they do the best, it brings out their soul more than thrash does. metallica in the 90s and Down, bringing out a heavy blues sound.
Man making a record is a beast of a job thank you guys for all the years of rock and roll and Metal
Load is a super underrated album. I hated it like everyone else when it came out, till a friend told me to give it a chance. Now it's one of my favorites. So many good songs. Just different.
These albums have aged really well. It’s pretty incredible just how well they hold up compared to other hard rock albums of that time.
Lars: Am I evil?
Lars: YES, I AM.
Load & Reload are the first 2 albums by them I ever got and they still hold up well for me
I can only imagine it'd be great fun just hangin' around with these guys.
8:07 - I miss the days when Lars played the Ride cymbals a whole lot. Now he favours the China Crash.
November 1995 fuuuck man! I was 17. Still fucking LOVE this band and their music in 2018. 🤘🏻🤟🏻
I was 17 in '95 too!!
I still remember the day they released this album June 4th 1996, they gave a free concert in San Jose at tower records. It was crazy! Good times!
This is amazing. Bridging the gap between two Metallicas that I love equally for different reasons.
Damn cool footage..
They sure know how to treat their fans great..
I actually won the lightbulb in a FanCan all those years ago, still have it too this very day.

@@nikolasdebnar4842 speak for yourself, i dont miss cliff.
the load albums had a lotta great music on them. i hardly ever hear people talk about " the thorn within" such a great song. I love Lars drums on it too. 🥁 😊
man, they are on fire here. such cool riffs and grooves
Crazy. These fans got something really special.
load was ahead of its time I fkn appreciate the album now
James hetfield is so cool that there is hours of footage of him with this mullet in this era and not one person gives him shit about it.
He was definitely between hairstyles here. I don't think I knew, or maybe forgot, that Kirk embraced the Load era makeover earlier than James and Lars. Maybe in my head I have some image of them all sitting in chairs getting made over at the same time.
8:52 james : with motley crüe 😂😂😂
Devil’s Dance was my favorite on reload. Bleeding Me on load
You always find the great stuff! Cheers man!
Reload is one of the very best Rock Alternative albums of all time. It's not a metal album at all, but it's an amazing album in a different category.
Love Jason's laugh so much))) Just like him)))
Love Load SO MUCH!!!the pooring me tour was out of this world!!!!thanks for sharing, man!!!
Load has Outlaw Torn/Bleeding Me, and Reload has The Memory Remains, therefore they are both amazing albums. No one else sounds quite like it either.
They're great albums on their own and are not 'corny' at all.
@@RejectedRecords1998 no man, he's right, take out some of those filler songs and keep the really good stuff. You have one amazing album.
Remember, load and reload were initially supposed to be a double album but they decided to separate it. They could've streamlined not and it would've been a classic like the ride or black album.. or puppets. Probably not like puppets
what corny filler songs?
Love that Telecaster that James is using in the beginning.
Lars is actually funny in this.
J Stone new money
Lars is just a bitch when he's emotional
I like Lars a shit load. Some people just can't see that his a pretty unreal guy. He'd be a loyal friend and would include you in important life events. To the Lars haters just go and fuxk off. You don't know quality when it's shown to you. I do and it's one Lars Ulrich. You can't beat the best at all \m/ \m/
I wonder what happened to them between this and Some Kind Of Monster? They still seem like decent guys in this video, not divas.
Tension bro sadly :( Jason not happy with the band he left the band, James Alcohol abuse led him to rehab, James,Lars,Bob Rock and Kirk couldn't agree to the mix, Solo&No Solo, and lick of a song that St.Anger was not mix right 2001-2003 was not a good year for Metallica
ReLoad lol
Lars went after Napster
