    Alonso 9, Stroll 8... Ricciardo 8?
Ricciardo qualified P5 (less than 2 tenths off pole) ahead of Alonso, then lost places at the start and got a 5 second penalty (due to car clutch issues), and still managed to get points at 8th just behind the Astons.
He also overtook Ocon quickly right after Yuki's spin.
How is Alonso rated higher and Stroll rated the same?
Ricciardo hasn't had a consistently impressive season thus far, but this weekend was one of those great ones. Should have been a 9.

  • @ZEROxFUSIONZ

I personally would of given Daniel a 9.
    Great qualifying!
Unlucky penalty as the team said it was a clutch issue (not actually Daniel’s fault)
A few drivers didn’t pit under safety car which lost him more track position (after serving penalty) was also over 5 seconds ahead of tsunoda so even if he also pit Daniel would of still been ahead. And then he still finished in the points.
Was a solid drive from Daniel where he didn’t make any mistakes as the start wasn’t his fault and picked up solid points. Maybe could have finished 1 place higher without the penalty due to losing so many places earlier on but realistically what else could the RB have done. He was never finishing ahead of max, McLaren, merc or Alonso

I worked on an ALMS championship winning team and whenever a yellow came out we always had the pit crew up and ready to go. I would think with the brain trust that is in F1 they would have a more efficient way to getting the tires to the car instead of three or four guys dodging around the garage trying to get the correct set into pit lane.

I agree with you about Max. One of the best drives in many years in his career. The car was awful on that circuit.
I was a Red Bull Paddock Club guest and had the team’s radio so I heard the communications between Max and Checo and the pit wall after it was shut off to the public. The drivers bitterly complained about how bad the car was and how poorly it handled and their lack of confidence in it. And despite that, just a few hours later, Max qualifies P2 and goes on to win. Absolutely remarkable. In most other drivers’ hands, that was no better than a P8-P10 car.
And I’m not even a Red Bull fan. I’m really a fan of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Williams and Lewis, Fernando, Charles, Carlos and Alex.
But you have to respect true talent, and Max showed us just how great a driving talent he really is when he does not have a winning car. He’s on the level of the very very best drivers who have ever driven in the sport.

Can we talk about how Ricciardo was screwed over with his pitstop window of opportunity?
On lap 26 (SC), he had a 4 second lead on Stroll and a 11 second lead on Albon and 12 on Tsunoda - when it was clear MOST drivers would come in due to the safety car and getting new inters for incoming rain.
If he pitted, he would've had a roughly 7 second pitstop (his penalty included) and would've lost just a single position to Stroll.
But they kept him out for one more lap, pitted him in lap 27.. and by then lost about three positions to Tsunoda, Stroll, Ocon.
Effectively meaning that instead of dropping to P8, he dropped to P10 - not due to his own fault. And this isn't the first time Ricciardo suffered horrid pitmoments: Jeddah was quite similar where they had a 40 pitstop iirc?
Daniel could've scored way more points if not for that dumb decision to keep him out.

Hulkenberg was not used to slow down the field, Hulkenberg wanted to stay on the wets hoping they would last him untill dry, because he was told that Magnussen was struggeling getting temps into the inters, Hulkenberg then made a big mistake on the wets causing to to ask for a pit stop.
I dont see how Hulkenberg and Magnussen could be rated the same this race, anything driver based (this weekend) Magnussen was on top of Hulkenberg.

K-mag had four pitstops, one more than Hulkenberg - and one and two more than most of the field. That's why he ended up behind.

@@laloqf The rating is based on how the driver performed with the machine they have so whether they win or not has nothing to do with it. This is why for example Alex Albon could finish 7th and be rated a 10/10, Perez could finish 7th and get rated 3/10, because you expect Perez with the machinery he has to do a lot better than 7th place.

Hamilton would have won in George's place. Yeah... but "if if if". I don't understand why this is an argument. Of course, it's not as good as George. George may have messed up but he had room to mess up on account of... not messing up in quali? As for the wrong tires thing - on radio, he asked his team. They told him he didn't have another set of Mediums and it was a bit far for Softs (i.e. that he might start losing positions when the softs fall off).

"That should of been a 10/10 winning that race" Matt is officially cooked. Come off it Matt. Changing wet conditions, 2 bouts of intermediate tyres, several pit stops, 2 safety cars and no clear fastest car. That was anyone's race. Not a single person on that grid was secure in their starting position.

17:50 Sainz who qualified just in front of Sargeant (by only 0.037 seconds), crashed like Sargeant, but Sainz took someone else out which Sargeant didn't do, but he gets rated "3" while Sargeant gets a "1" (see 7:15)
I'm no Sargeant fan, but surely Sainz was worse than Sargeant this week.

Closest I can think of is Mexico last year. Daniel had a stellar weekend, (pulled AlphaTurd from 10th to 8th) & Lance was closing in on a “pitlane to points” drive, (when Aston was terrible) until Bottas ended that in the stadium section of the track.
Brazil could have, but Daniel having a tire bounce off his rear wing after an accident, (with Lance finishing in 5th) was hilariously unlucky.

Honestly don’t think Tsunoda’s race was all that impressive, even apart from the mistake
Great strategy call from RB had him clear in 7th, and he just went backwards, even being overtaken by Ocon
There’s a reason they “let Ricciardo attack” he was faster and Gasly was hunting them down
It would have been the right decision to swap the cars, as Ricciardo did get by Ocon for 8th
