One of the things I love about Father Ted. You think you've seen everything to do with the show, but then a little gem like this pops up. Long live Father Ted!
He so does, just like Ardal when he does Dermot as Ted. Frank does Pauline as Mrs Doyle well and Pauline does well as Frank's character Father Jack, especially when she says, ARSE! lol 😂😂
@@brunetteshaveevenmorefun8012dude it's like Pauline does Frank's Fr. Jack TOO well she's brilliant Though Dermot pulling off Ardal's wee face he does as Dougal is the icing on this cake
Totally agree with what KaiObelisk says. Dermot has given us one more laugh after all these years we have been without him. RIP Dermot. And thanks for uploading this mate 90's forever!!!
I wish whoever was in charge of the DVD releases would go to a bit more trouble and try to collect all these amazing rare clips. This reminds me: a few years ago, Frank Kelly appeared on a talk show (I think it was The Late Late Show), in character and in costume as Father Jack Hackett. It was so long ago that I can't remember many details. It was the days before internet connections were common, so I haven't been able to find mention of it, try as I might. Does anyone else remember the clip?
I remember seeing this trailer back at the time and thinking it was the most glorious thing as I couldn't wait for series 3. Not sure how many times it was ever shown but it couldn't have been many.
I love that picture painted by Father Stone for Father Ted to show him how great he was. The picture is still there, hanging on the wall, in the background. I would even entertain Father Stone just to have that picture!
Somebody actually put they dislike this. Probably a moran who underwent a sense of humour bypass! As they would have said on Father Ted " A big fecking idiot" Thanks very much for uploading this :-)
Dermot Morgan died on 28/2/1998 and this advert suggests the first episode of series 3 was to be broadcast on 6/3/1998. According to wikipedia the first episode of series 3 was broadcast on 13/3/1998 so i guess they must have delayed the series start by a week because of his death?
I borrowed a 3 disc set of Father Ted from the library. Some of the episodes were unwatchable so I looked it up on youtube. I had never seen the show before. Thank you so much for posting them. I got it off the BBC's 100 best sitcoms. Great show.
Third and final series aired on my 8th birthday , young Italian - Mexican lad in London , with an abundance of Irish class mates, so many references , so much laughs and so much piss taking…. ❤
Quite a few Father Ted promos were made for Channel 4 like this mainly showing what was going to be on Friday night which always included Father Ted in the listing but they done at least one when it wasn't on.
I remember when the third series was going to be shown, the announcer said due to Dermot's death it was rescheduled for the following week, so they had a double bill of "Frasier" that evening, (following week, when it did show I laughed my head off)
@45rpmSINGLES Yes, that's right. He died just before it was meant to go out. So it was put back one week. Still quite close, but I suppose they still had to put it out at some stage.
@knightofjustic Yeah he was leaving after the third season, because they made three seasons. This trailer advertised the third season. The original season three finale, Going To America, was going to end with Ted jumping off the Parochial House roof but they changed it due to his death.
I read that as Father Ted didn’t end up going to America, he became depressed and the final episode was to originally end with It’s Great Being A Priest a year later with Ted joining Father Kevin on the ledge outside, preparing to jump off. But as Dermot Morgan died the day after, the ending was changed to showing a montage of highlights from the series.
i think the reason why this ad wasnt used much is because Dermot died on the 28th of Feb, so this was probly airing around that time and they probly stopped showing it out of respect. the 3rd season was postponed by just over a week (again out of respect i imagine) and eventually started on the 15th.
The show was meant to premiere on Friday 6th March 1998 so they were doing the publicity in advance for it's return. Sadly on the 28th February 1998, the day after completing filming on the final episode, Dermot Morgan died suddenly of a heart attack. The show was put back a week and these promos were pulled out of respect, hence why it is so rare.
@jamespg1993 what i meant was that season 3 started on the 15th of March not the 6th as this ad says (more than likely out of respect as i said) although there seems to be a conflict on wiki and season 3 may have actually started on the 13th of march...
sharktamer Amazingly Dermot sadly died only a day after the last episode of series 3 was recorded (Going to America) so I would assume this was recorded either before or during the recording of series 3.
I literally whooped for joy on discovering this. Why the hell didn't they put stuff like this in the DVD boxset? With the exception of the commentaries the extras are pish.

Sadly the death of Dermot Morgan delayed the launch of the third series by a week so it did not air on the said date.
It was actually his funeral on the planned broadcast date; really brings home to you how sudden and untimely his death was.
