The previously unthinkable secularisation of Ireland in the last 30 years has been well explored by now, and I wonder how much this one TV show had to do with it.

Was lucky enough to see Dermot Morgan do Father Trendy, inspired by Father Brian D'Arcy, a media-friendly priest, in the Gaiety about 40 years ago. I'll never forget him descending from the pulpit to reveal spangly tights and start strumming a guitar. Father Ted was a creation a long time in gestation but my God what a creation!!
Father Ted is one of the best comedy ever. Not only irish. I'm italian and I love Ireland for Father Ted, drink and music. I'm sure everything is wonderfull there as well.
I love how Dougal has no depth perception, i.e. faraway cows v. toy cows. Or the time he looked out the window with binoculars and saw a microscopic view of ants. 😂
When I owned all the series on video that was one of my favourite and frequently replayed episodes. Along with the lingerie department...the biggest in Ireland, so I understand!

This show and the IT Crowd are absolutely brilliant and if you ever get to see it “phone shop” by Channel 4 is superb especially the episode about “scuffins”

I would add the scene when Dougal didn't understand why someone would need hospitalization after being hit by lightning. He just got balloons sticken to him.

Tentacles of Doom ("three bishops, all at once!") is by far the best, followed by Hell (the holiday) and Grant Unto him Eternal Rest (where Father Jack dies). Kicking Bishop Brennan and Speed 3 are the best out of Series 3 but nowhere near the quality of most of Series 1 and 2.
