Thanks for the great info. I have recently acquired a Noblet/Beaugnier tenor, and cant put it down. Best investment I ever made $AUS$900. It is so much fun to play & the key action is fantastic (gold springs). Using a Meyer Hard rubber No 6 which works very well with it. Would love to know the year model, but seems to be impossible to tell.
Excellent horns. Just bought a Beaugnier Duke baritone. The previous tech was not aware of the special mechanism that keeps c# open until D1 is closed. Therefore the first octave was very low, unplayable. This was a 1 minute adjustment, after that intonation was perfect.
I appreciate your comments very much, the process of selecting a horn can be downright intimidating. Someone just offered me a yas 62 purple, how does this fare compared to noblet you spoke about? and if so what is the best possible mp for me to start with? Best of health to you.. Teresa
Hi there jazzmanted.I have a 'Gretsch' Beaugnier tenor which I bought after watching your videos. I love it but it doesnt have the original neck.Could you give em any information on what necks I could use? Thanks for the videos and the info,Paul
I have a Gretsch/Beaugnier alto that I really enjoy playing. To be honest, I have a hard to finding anything on a Gretsch/Beaugnier besides the fact that I have one, and that there are a lot more Noblet/Beaugniers, and Vito/Beaugniers. However, I do enjoy my Gretsch and feel very fortunate to have acquired it. :D
The Vito DUKE and SPECIAL saxes made by Beaugnier all had right side bell keys I believe, so does that mean the Beaugnier horns with left side bell keys are a grade below? If so, what about the Vito Model 35 semi-rationale sax that had left side bell keys but cost too much to continue to produce?
Hi Jazzmanted, I am a very enthusiastic newbie to the sax world, I have loved watching your videos, I do not want to rent anymore, could i ask your advice on the beaugnier vitos perhaps versus the kohlert 57. they seem to be about the same price range?
I've got one of the later model Vitos, a tenor, with all the Selmer stuff and it is a freaking beast of a horn. In a good way. I agree the later model necks sound powerful. It demands that you play blues and rock on it. Think King Curtis. I also have a 4xx serial number GLeBlanc alto sax, and it's as sweet as the Vito is mean. Think Johnny Hodges.
The Kohlert is one of many horns made by Max,Julius, or Robert keilwerth. The three brothers worked with one another and owned factories on both sides of what became the iron curtain. The bore of all of these models is like the modern day keilwerth saxes and sounds differrent than a selmer sound. It is a good sax. I prefer the right beaugnier. The Kohlerts have rolled tone holes but do not feel as good ergonomically. Good luck.
I have 2 face model tenors which is the one I refer to as looking like it was fished out of a swamp. The Noblet one is completely overhauled and I have about a months worth of play time on the overhaul. It's respectable but won't win any beauty contests for 800 dollars. I also have a relaquered vito version that needs about 60 dollars worth of work of the same model. The face brace on the bell has been replaced with a mark 6 brace. It also won't win any beauty contests for 500.00 These play like balanced action tenors with the teapot octave on the neck and if it said Selmer it would be an 11 - 14 thousand dollar horn. I wouldn't sell either except that I found a new near one of this model and I don't need 2 spares. Let me know if you're interested. I don't know where you can find any pro horn for this money. IMHO these are the nicest horns ever built.
No a Duke model would be fine for you the way it is.Later on when you get more advanced you can modify the table. I think you mean voss. This is a kielwerth body with keywork by dorfler and jorka. It has a mark 6 style table, rolled tone holes, and is a kielwerth bore. I have one in almost new condition I would sell for 350 plus whatever shipping would be. Let me know if you are interested. It is an excellent intermediate sax.
62 yamahas are very good copies of a mark 6. Many pro players use them. Many with Mark 6 horns that no longer play them and keep them as investments.I don't like these as much as the noblet model I told you about but they are very good horns. You may not find one of the model I told you about for a year or 2. The Yamaha will do everything that you want it to do.
There are many vito models only a few of which are great. Some of the good vito models have duke inscribed on them, others do not but the tables look the same. These are the best of the vito saxes. You need to modify the table as I explain in one video when you become an advanced player. The best baaugnier sax is the noblet model that has Noblet's head on the body to bell brace and on the neck. I am planning on posting a video about this specific model when I have a good day. My health allowing
It depends. It sounds like it may be a Yanagisawa Bari . Look all over it and see if their is a y in the serial number or on the neck and if it is marked made in Japan . You can send me pictures and I can most likely tell you. Lacquer condition and what the table looks like will all affect the value .Shoot me your email address,I will respond with mine and I will let you know from your pics. Ebay has really screwed used horn prices.
I love the Beaugnier / Vito saxophones. They have more flexibility than the Mark-VI. Perfect intonation. But I have only tried baritones and a tenor sax. I guess the alto saxophone will be similar.

Is the Duke model too complicated for someone just learning to play? I have also heard of a vox stencil made by beaugnier, any thoughts on that one?
I have not been able to locate one of these models. how do you think the Martin compares, or a buffet s-1 or dynaction?
is this any good, found on ebay 1950 noblet vito #16xxx kenosha made in france?

The altos are similar but have offset stacks. At least the face model does. It's also a great sax. The altos sound like a mark6
Ok. Thank You!
move away from the camera!
