I repair electronics and do a lot of SMD soldering and this for almost 30 years now. Today I use for the most part cheap Chinese soldering stations. Mostly combined HotAir and Soldering iron (€150 - €200 range). Yes, I could buy the very expensive Weller or JBC stations but they come with a price. What it comes down to in most cases is the one that does the soldering that makes a soldering station good or bad. Many repairs have passed my work bench of people who tried to do SMD soldering with no expierence. Even when those people bought the Weller or JBC stations they would have the same result. SMD soldering is something you need to learn, no matter what equipment you buy. For me, the Chinese stations never let me down and do the job.

Yes experience is more important than the equipment, I am sure that you could probably make good solder joints with almost anything. Others may not be able to with even the most expensive equipment.

Few tips,if it is not too late and you know it already. For more expensive old type of original irons and tips, they are not that loose . 2nd you can always fill it with just one role of aluminum foil or similar and it is far better . Of course,it wont still match up to the new,but one thing I like about those old types of irons is that they take up physical abuse far better ,so having them for rough jobs is always nice .
As for budget ones new type of soldering irons,I think aixun pretty much hits the point, since T3A can take different types of soldering iron types(T-12 and JBC style irons) ! And of course Atten . IT seems a lot more expensive at first, but when one thinks about the use of different types of soldering irons it more than justifies the cost

your kit about soldering irons is valid however you most likely would have soldering irons like tools on the wall. there are different they can do different things based on there design. so a 1/2 inch socket is not a 5/8 socket. nor a 10 mm socket is and some on. so having more is an advantage. i can see that tool makers can make better solders with more fitting to be available. pincher or curved soldering irons for boards in sizes all the way down to pin sized heads. and lengths of the tips form one inches or 25 mmm to 50 mmm for clearance issues.
and watts again depends on what you need to do with it.
so this industry is still developing new tool all the time and with microcontrollers coming out with more ways to use them, specialized tools will be made and purchased over standard traditional soldering irons.
station filters vacuums the overall set up safety this industry is still underdeveloped.

Yes that's why I attempt to try and evaluate some of the newer stuff so you guys can see what works and what doesn't. At least that was my motivation.

there is a hakko kit you mention in previous videos what you think about the one you said you assembled thanks for the tools video it is great

The ones I assembled from a kit work well for most jobs. I have actually ordered some wide T12 spade bits that I want to try to see if they can desolder a whole row of pins at the time like on USB connectors etc. If it works I will do a video on it.

If you buy a high quality iron and original tips there is no issue with slop or heat tranfer.

I do not know, I have never had a JBC or Weller station. Maybe some one else may know this?

@@Tech-Relief Definitely not JBC, looks very different. Cool video, I really want the tweezers as well.

I use a cheap zeny 898d soldering station with that cheap iron on it for over 10 years 10 or more hours per day. I replace the element 1 time . Right now I am using a cheap 898d+ to do microsoldering. I love weller soldering station but it's too expensive for me right now

Yes I understand, of course experience helps and a skilled operator can probably make do with almost any soldering iron. I also think Weller and JBC etc are too expensive for hobbyists that is why I bought the ATTEN station. $200 was my limit...

Hello, why at 5:31 you say T12 technology is actually worse than the old school tech? Thx

    • @Tech-Relief
      @Tech-Relief  2 роки тому

If that is what I said I would have meant the opposite. The T12 soldering irons are good, I only bought the extra ATTEN soldering station because it has a 150 watt iron and good soldering tweezers.

Bud, your videos are good, but the expensive stuff, is sometimes out of reach for young enthusiastic hobbyists, just starting out! The cheaper t12 ksger or quicko stations are exceptionally good, cheaper, and do a good job, if not better than the expensive stations. Not saying that your wrong or right, just adding my opinion, that’s all. Keep up the good job. P.s Sit back and read what the people are commenting.. cheers 🤙🏼🇦🇺
    Just sub’d also.. 🤙🏼🇦🇺

Sure, I have a couple of T12 stations that I use but there are no hot tweezers for them I know of and just occasionally I need a little more power and that is how I got into the Atten station. I got some interesting spade bits for the T12 stations and find these rather useful, will do a video on those soon.
