INFO: The Killers are an American rock band formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2001 by members Brandon Flowers (lead vocals, keyboards, bass) and Dave Keuning (guitar, backing vocals), Mark Stoermer (bass, guitar, backing vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. (drums, percussion) would complete the current line-up of the band in 2002. Since then they've grown to become one of the most famous indie-bands in the modern rock culture. In this video i talk about Hot Fuss, Sam's Town, Day and Age and Battle Born.

I'm an American. I bought this CD from Amazon when I was young, and they shipped me the European Version. Glamourous Indie Rock and Roll had to be my favorite track on first listening. I still believe it's up there with The Killers best songs. I heard Change Your Mind on the American version, and I thought it was a really good song, but not nearly as good as the GIRAR masterpiece. I later bought a used copy of the Limited Edition CD on Amazon for cheap which contained GIRAR as a B-side along with TBOMV and UTG

The bass riffs off of Jenny was a friend of Mine mirror bass riffs from Duran Duran Rio album. Flowers has said DD is definitely an influence on the band. I believe it too between the bass and use of synths so seamlessly incorporated into the music, similar to DD.

Hot Fuss: A great debut effort with some of the bands biggest hits (cough cough Mr Brightside cough) but also some brilliant underrated gems like Midnight Show Jenny was a friend of Mine and Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll.
Sam's Town: probably their best album. It takes the potential of Hot Fuss to the next level. Almost every song on this one sticks the landing and Bling (Confessions of a King) is Probably my favourite Killers song to date.
Day and Age: probably my least favourite as its a bit of a mess. There's still some enjoyable moments but many of the songs don't work for me at all . Dustland Fairytale, Spaceman, and Human are highlights that work better when played in concerts.
Battle Born: a lot of the tracks don't quite achieve the stadium rock vibe they were going for on this one. Runaways and Miss Atomic Bomb are absolute gems though and thoroughly deserve a spot in the live setlist. Shot at the Night and Just Another Girl are also brilliant and had they been on Battle Born instead of the Direct Hits completion it would probably be much higher in my ranking.
Wonderful Wonderful: the 5 year wait really didn't help this one and sadly the level of hype for this record was so much that many feel it's a disappointment. For me it's a mixed bag when it's good it's some of The Killers best songs e.g. Tyson vs Douglas, The Calling and Run for Cover. The others feel a bit forgettable.

I am impressed that you were able to understand as much as you did about The Killers after basically binging these 4(5) albums in only five days. Very interesting video, coming from someone who has loved them for a very long time.
Re-listen to "Read My Mind" from Sam's Town. You didn't even mention it here and it's possibly their best song to date (that's Brandon Flowers' opinion as well).
But seriously you understand the band better than most journalist who write reviews of their records and I enjoyed this.
They are the absolute best band of the 2000's, hands down. Just my opinion.

Andy Gilley Thank you so much for saying that Andy! You're a star ⭐️ Haha. Get it? But anyway, when i learn about a new band or artist i try to suck everything in like a sponge. I do A LOT of research.
And yes i'll give that song a few more listens for sure.
From what i've heard some people just don't see the big thing in The Killers, while others do. Some like them for just the singles. Others appreciate their non-hits as well. Do you agreed? It's sort of a polarized fan-base.

The Killers were the best band of the 2000's decade. I cannot say the same of the 2010's. Individual offers were OK but as a band it did not satisfy me. And now I wonder if the Killers are still a band.

      @marcbergeron8690 4 роки тому

@@crazyforcats19 Yes I listened to it and I liked. But it did not match the classic 3 of the 2000's. And the absence of Keuning is quite perceptible. I wonder if the Killers will retreive their magic one day. Their solo stuff which is generally good, is weakening the Killers as an ensemble. All those fine musicals were not on a Killers' album.

I liked it overall but I wouldn't really call it a documentary, its more of your point of view of the killers. It seemed like the knowledge you presented was acquired throughout your listening experience with the killers and not so much actual research, which is not bad thing but you ended up missing a lot of information needed to achieve a complete understanding of the killers. I still very much enjoyed seeing another fans perspective of them and glad you took the time to post this.

sam duley Thank you for the feedback Sam. Yes i agreed on what you're saying. I wish i could've found more though. It was not so much the facts that i was looking for though, i wanted a story. And it seems like the Killers aren't the keenest band when it comes to sharing their story. Or maybe it's just that it's quite simple. Band from Las Vegas - made it to fame unexpectedly, riding the wave of fame... I honestly don't know. But if you have other sources i would love to learn more. Thanks.

why'd you go and add an O in trilogy
also bowie's influence can be seen throughout their discography. in mr brightside that 'and she's calling a cab / my stomach is sick" thing and the melody of it is an interpolation of bowie's queen bitch. he goes 'and i'm phoning a cab cause my stomach feels small' . my mum pointed this out and i can not unhear it
also glamorous indie rock and roll has a lot of literal glam rock influences. parts remind me of bowie's moonage daydream, the guitars, and the 'man i'll freak you out' is reminiscent of 'freak out in a moonage daydream'. the guitar ascension leading up to the bridge is very queen-ish, i love it.
also in the man, in the bridge he goes 'headed to the hall of FAAAAAME" in the same manner as bowie's fame. the killers performed this song on the radio and transitioned it into a cover of fame, iconic
also: are there actually people that don't like hot fuss? doubt

So for me Day by age is my first ever album I listened from The Killers I was a baby and my parents would play Human and Dustland Fairytale they would say "The Killers made this song for us" because we'll my surname is Human years later I found spaceman and it is my favourite song from them.
Hot Fuss: Like you said the first 5 songs are a masterpiece I mean Mr. Brightside well you know. Somebody told me is that hyped up song you listen to in a club. Jenny was a friend of mine is amazing it is on point and people can relate to it. Smile like you mean it is amazing like it is that sad song but also a happy song at the same time and All these things that I've done is just amazing hits ever core aspect of a song. I also like Andy is a star Highly underrated I also did not like it at first then I listened to it more and I really like it.
Sam's Town: OK going to be very Honset hear the only songs I know from here is Read my mind and When you were young I know them from my mom playing it on her Ipod so they are just amazing no words I so think Just another girl should have been part of this album would have fited perfectly. I also listened to for Reason unknown from there live performances on UA-cam video same with Uncle Johny.
Battle Born: Going to be honest I have just listened to Runaways but Miss Atomic bomb from what I heard that they played live on UA-cam videos is quite good
Saw Dust: I have never listened too
Imploding the Marrige: Have not listened too

Great vid! I completely agree on the difference between the first and second half. I think the same goes for a lot of albums from lots of different artists. Maybe truly legendary albums have the strong tracks spread out? Perhaps. :-P
Personally (from a drummer's and bassist's perspective) I do like the more up-tempo songs of the second half (On Top, Change Your Mind, Midnight Show) and the nice syncopated rhythm in the intro from Believe Me Natalie. But yeah, I agree that it is a bit too easy in the songwriting department, so to say.

i just never hear modern rock albums with intros and exits that are the driving thematic vision of the album's song to song runtime.
the only ones i've heard like that are lullabies to paralyze and nothing more's self titled.
the thing about sam's town is that it feels like you aren't talking to the same person song to song as a listener. its like stories told from several different people in a bar in the middle of a small city where everyone are neighbors and go there often to share their lives.
no second is wasted in its execution, and i ADORE that.
