But at the end of the shippuden, Sasuke surpassed Madara. Naruto surpassed Hashirama. Because at the end, just with a glance, sasuke trapped all tailed beast in genjutsu and sealed them with shibaku tensie. And at last fight Sasuke and Naruto uses most powerful ultimate jutsu against each other.
Naruto technically did surpass Hashirama, though, it just doesn't look that way. I honestly wish Naruto used Wood Release with his artificial Zetsu arm.

You still have to balance out the natural energy with an even amount of your own chakra ... Did you even watch the show when this was explained? Also Amount =/= potency. Itachi had chakra amounts comperable to Shikamaru / Kiba ( Second Databook) while Kisame had chakra levels far higher than most Akatsuki members as stated by Pain. Still Itachi's chakra was vastly more potent and he was acknowledged as more powerful...

I don't think we will ever know just how strong Hashirama really was. I mean, he was angry that Madara betrayed their bond but he still wasn't going at full power against him in this fight because he still cared. When Orochimaru resurrected him and the other hokages, they were revived at half their power, yet it was enough to make Sasuke flinch and to make Orochimaru sweat. His full power has been left to the imagination. We do know he was goofy and free-spirited, while Tobirama was a hothead.
He clearly went all out against madara And due to the sacrifice being white zetsu (which are made from his own cells(sacrifices make a difference, look at hashirama and tobirama at chunin exam on 1st naruto)) and orochimaru doing the edo tensei, heck even tobirama said it, they're pretty close to their full power or even in their full power

Both 3rd and 4th Hokage's present alongside the entire top brass of the village Jounin. Final death count includes it's previous Jinchuuriki and the 4th Hokage. Kyuubi enhanced by Susanoo and controlled directly by Madara? Hashirama literally tears the armor covering it off with a single massive jutsu while overpowering one of Madara's offensive techniques, then completely disables the Kyuubi by putting it to sleep with a single follow up jutsu. Hashirama was an absolute beast.

Naruto defeated a version of Madara (Sasuke) that already had the Rinnegan.

I mean, he was angry that Madara betrayed their bond but he still wasn't going at full power against him in this fight because he still cared. When Orochimaru resurrected him and the other hokages, they were revived at half their power, yet it was enough to make Sasuke flinch and to make Orochimaru sweat. His full power has been left to the imagination. We do know he was goofy and free-spirited, while Tobirama was a hothead.

To me the impressive part about this fight isn't just Hashirama's sage mode, but it's that Madara saw that and was still 100% ready to throw down.
They are equally match, with hashirama being a little better. It's literally madara power to control tailed beast. Just like hashirama has the same power to control tailed beast. They went head to head afterwards. No fight is symmetrical all the way trhough.

The reason why i think Hashirama is stronger than Naruto sometimes.
Just look at how big that fricking golem is, it grabs a WHOLE Kurama like a kitten. Not only is wood style ridiculously OP, Hashirama has insane healing factor which is why everyone wanted to harness his cells, like using it for Narutos arm lol. God knows what else he can do besides all those Wood Styles, with Naruto its either Rasengan or Rasengan. Keep in mind he beat Kurama AND Madara in this fight. Kurama was also covered in Susano, supposedly the strongest defense jutsu. I just cant even imagine Naruto beating Hashirama.

Naruto surpassed him in the war, Obito with the Juubi was more powerful than Hashirama he himself said that, and then Madara with the Juubi had a hard time with Naruto sixpaths mode. Naruto defeated Kaguya, and despite all Madara power here he was far from being the strongest self because Rinnegan give him an edge. Naruto defeated a version of Madara (Sasuke) that already had the Rinnegan.
