I am Donnie Weaver, the original singer and organist who recorded my solid gold hit "Girl Watcher " in 1968. I came up with the name The O'Kaysions. The six original members were Donnie Weaver lead singer and organist, Jimmy Hinnant, bass guitar, Eddie Dement, trumpet, Gerald Toler, sax, Steve Watson, drums, and Wayne Pittman on guitar. This was recorded in Greenville, NC in 1968. This is a really good version.
Hi Mr. Weaver, I’m a Wilson, NC native and remember hearing this song on the radio constantly when I was a little girl. I didn’t realize that you were an NC native until about 15 years ago or that it wasn’t a black band. Your voice is so full of soul. Hope that all is well with you and yours.
The helicopter ADF was tuned to Armed Forces Radio Saigon. My flight helmet was filled with this wonderful song as we traversed the Viet Nam country side 1968. Great memory. Thanks for posting
I was in Vietnam from Oct 1968 to about June 19 69 and then I went to Okinawa for my last five months of duty I’m a girl watcher was real popular there when I got to Vietnam in October 1968 I love the song it was really popular and hey Jude was also very popular I think about those songs it takes me back over 50 years a lot of memories of people and friends that I loved and lost.
Had this on a 45 when I was six, we would play it over and over until our mom came down in the basement and yelled at us to stop playing that record! Lol
As I was reading on Wikipedia, the O'Kaysions released a LP the following year, "1969", Was that LP in stereo? I "assume" so, but this version just about had me fooled. The stereo imagery on this sounds like early to mid 60's even though this came out in 1968. In the late 60's into the 70's producers started to centralize vocals and percussion and such. Who ever mixed this did a good job!
@@suburban60sKid Yes. Girl Watcher spent 16 weeks in the top 10 on the charts. Thank you for sharing this info. The lead singer is my Dad, Donnie Weaver. The gold record still hangs in his house.

Nice synch up! Both parts work well together with a minimum of artifacts. Sounds good. Cheers Tiger.
WOW This is awesome
The image on the screen was the album cover or the short sleeve for a 45 record of this song. Cool.
Sounds amazing! Some synch ups sound terrible but this is one good. Keep it up! -Henry

Yes the Girl Watcher LP was in true stereo except this song and Deal Me In (b-side to Girl Watcher)
And thanks I did this mix.
If you don't mind me asking, what software did you use or was it an actual synthesizer?
They recorded this in Chicago
Little Miss Flirt was a great song too.
Da hora essa musica
Visuals confirm these guys is WHITE!!
And so is Archie Bell and The Drells.
AMAZIN' !!!!!!!!!!
Late response. Archie Bell and the Drells are brothers (black guys) from Houston, Tx.
@@damilitantone Research bears that point out but some histories have them as White.

A girl watching song with a man's face. Not for me. Thumbs down. I'm checking out.
Party pooper ;-)
ThisMyCollection I believe the face is that of the lead singer.
@@kevinkool3 I am his daughter and as a kid, I thought that as well, but in fact it is not his face.
