Coco coir grow mats work well with many types of watering systems and can produce a 35 percent larger yield than traditional burlap mats. Unlike many kinds of grow mats, coir grow mats are reusable; once they’re dried and the roots from your previous crop of microgreens are removed, your mat can be used to grow an entirely new crop.
wow! This looks so great! Im inspired to grow my own wheatgrass now :). Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. I have a few questions for you: 1- can we reuse the seeds once you harvest the first time? 2- after the first harvest, what do we do with the coconut coir? can we reuse it for the second batch? If yes, then what do we do with the old seeds in it? 3- where do you buy organic wheatgrass seeds?
I love your videos, they are short and very precise. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. When I tried your method for wheat grass, only paper towel on top of the seeds, instead of adding layer of coco-coir on top, lots of seeds got pushed out, and dried out after sprouting. So I think adding very thin layer of coco-coir on top as well might help.
THANK YOU for your wonderful and easy to follow steps for growing wheatgrass. Many thanks for providing the websites to purchase the required materials. I’m so excited to start this process!
You can water (1) less time if you use a black plastic bag (garbage bag) instead of the paper towel. The plastic bag will hold water vapor on the underside bag near the tops of the plants) and also keep it dark to speed root growth. The paper towel is great for evaporation of water, that is why you need to water it during this cycle..I really want to get that to a faster speed of growing..Your video is awesome! I like the idea of the speed growing...Keep it up!
Great information! I’m still curious about harvesting the wheatgrass. Can you reuse the same plant? Does it continue to regrow after cutting? Or do you need to restart with fresh seeds each time? Also, how close to the base of the plant should you cut?
The coconut coir prevents the seed from drying. I also cover the seeds with it in thin layer. It keeps the seeds in good shape better than tissue paper. The sprouts shoot up beautifully. Mine grow about one inch per day.
Hello..Thanks for this info! Can you let know how to pot new wheat grass using same pot? Do we keep adding seeds or we need to remove roots of previous wheat grass from the soil?
You can use it to grow literally everything. It's an alternative to peat moss which is the typical ingredient in most soil mixes. Coco coir is a great alternative to use for most plants, especially for plants that are prone to root rot because it's not as wet as peat moss. Coco coir is also much more environmentally friendly. Coco coir, pumice/perlite, orchid bark, and earthworm castings is a very good homemade mix that will work for many types of houseplants.
I already own a masticating juicer so I can’t wait to start growing my own wheatgrass. Only problem is how do I keep this away from my cats while it’s growing. They love grass.
We plant wheat without land; it grows beautifully without land. Before soaking, add soda, and ionize the water .... But the most important thing is the temperature !!!! Wheat loves + 17😁
No, you don't need the second/inside tray with holes in for this method of top-watering. You'd use the tray with holes inside another tray without holes if you were bottom watering.
If you are using regular soil or garden soil, then yes. If you are using coconut coir then no, coconut coir absorbs water like a sponge and the flat does not need drainage holes.
I am trying this method now. Exactly as you recommended and my sprouted wheat berries are drying out. Some are sprouting but some are not. I wonder what I did wrong.
Some people use mats because they are cleaner. I wonder... has anyone tried a fibre mat and coir hybrid style? Like growing a mat thats sitting on top of the coir???
what is the temperature requirements? do the seeds germinate indoors at say 72 F ? your videos are very inspiring and insightful. are wheat berries are same as “Gehu” or the same wheat that we use for “aata to make roti”?
I’m trying to figure out how to grow this in my apartment and keep my 2 cats from devouring it before it’s done growing. Of course we will all partake in the grass.
Hello, After the 1st harvest (cutting it), how many days I can let it grow and keep harvesting? Can I keep cutting it as and when it grows and use it? My brother is a cancer patient and we are recommended to give him wheat grass.
From what I've seen in another video, you can harvest a second time but the effects will be slightly reduced and this happens with further harvests. So by the time you get to the second harvest, it's good to start growing another batch in another tray
How many inches should the wheatgrass grow before cut and what’s the ideal time it should get to that length after the draining and its in the growing stage with/without dirt?
Thanks so much....i am growing wheat grass for the first time, and there are pretty droplets like water on each stem or leaf. It's not from watering them, and i'm not sure what causes these droplets. Do you know?
Can cocopeat be mixed with compost ? Does it make any difference? Is there any difference in nutritional value , if Wheatgrass grass is grown 1) without any soil, 2) just cocopeat 3) cocopeat and organic compost Can cocopeat be reused ? How to identify mold
Yes you can use cocopeat or coconut coir mixed with compost. There is not nutritional value difference in wheatgrass grown in compost, coconut coir, or hydroponically. This is because wheatgrass upto 6 inches derives its energy from the seed. I have a video on How to grow wheatgrass without soil as well: ua-cam.com/video/EuK84SjT0mQ/v-deo.html
I'm curious why then you used half organic potting mix as stated in Sing comment, why not just all coconut coir? I see some kits containing nutritients in conjunction with coco coir, curious about that need?
After harvesting, how much should i water? i get it going very well but after harvesting it tends to get brown at the tips so i water it and it doesnt do well after that.
i loved your results, i can't understand what manure (coconut something) you used. Never heard of it, or where to get it from ? Could you share more about its name and where to get it ? Can we use regular potting soil to achieve same results ?
Excellent video, very easy to follow instructions! I do have one question though, could I substitute coconut coir for peat moss as the growing medium? Thank you!
you want to make sure the soil does not contain manure, worm castings or any animal matter because the greens will be very close to the soil and there is chance of disease transmission. That's why I use coconut coir.
Can i grow these in a mug just as a table top plant.....they look refreshing.....will they keep growing and stop at a certain height and do they remain as a plant that can be maintained or will they grow and then wither down if not harvested. I want them to grow and then stay as a permanent plant on my table. Possible ?
You mentioned in a previous comment that you're using half coconut coir and half organic potting mix is this for added nutrients or cost effectiveness (as in it's cheaper)? (Some coconut choir wheatgrass kits call for azomite or other mineral additives)
because of you, my guinea pigs are going to be absolutely SWIMMING in lovely mold-free wheatgrass! my guinea pigs and i thank you, Jag!
I'm going to try now. Save me money on buying it all the time. My tortoise will be happy

What abput the vitamins, that get used up from the coir, in the first batch?
Thanks
I would sure like to see that process. Perhaps you can make a video.
I'm imagine all the nutrients comes from the seeds themselves.
Thankyou so much! I am able to grow wheatgrass regularly following the instructions of this video.
Hi, are you growing wheatgrass in coco peat or adding soil to it? Coco peat doesn’t contain any nutrients so how to use it?

But it needs light as well
And what about flies that used to fly over it all time
Great video super simple approach and easy to follow & replicate I keep coming back to view year after year for reference. thank you so much brother!
Best one I have viewed 👍
Glad you like the video!
This is the best way to germinate wheat fast .Thanks and I learned how to grow the wheat .Thanks again
Add water
Great information! I’m still curious about harvesting the wheatgrass. Can you reuse the same plant? Does it continue to regrow after cutting? Or do you need to restart with fresh seeds each time? Also, how close to the base of the plant should you cut?
It’s more like a one time use because the second time that grows back does not provide as much benefit as the first time.
wow, great information! Sir, how about if I try using vermiculite instead of coir? Would it work out as well? I am concerned with the mold problem
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS VIDEO!!! YOU ARE SO HANDSOME!!!
Esquire in Asia ~ But you have all those videos of “dream Thai girls.” Are you bi OR tri-sexual?
My sentiments exactly.
Lol
I use both Barley Grass and Wheat Grass from Probase Nutrition, best on the market in my humble opinion
The coconut coir prevents the seed from drying. I also cover the seeds with it in thin layer. It keeps the seeds in good shape better than tissue paper. The sprouts shoot up beautifully. Mine grow about one inch per day.
Is the coconut coir safe for cats. If you are growing the wheatgrass for your cats to eat?
Hello..Thanks for this info! Can you let know how to pot new wheat grass using same pot? Do we keep adding seeds or we need to remove roots of previous wheat grass from the soil?
Really excellent way of growing
Awsome
you should do a video on coconut coir, what are some things you can grow using that product?? micro greens??
Compost you can use
You can use it to grow literally everything. It's an alternative to peat moss which is the typical ingredient in most soil mixes. Thank you for this video. Could you explain about the amount of sun this grow needs? I don't have direct sun...
Hey dats gud...Direct sunlight is not good for the growth of wheatgrass
I already own a masticating juicer so I can’t wait to start growing my own wheatgrass. Only problem is how do I keep this away from my cats while it’s growing. They love grass.
Get one of those disposable aluminum casserole dishes with the tall plastic top!
Plant another tray for the cats
But don't use aluminum plz...
Very helpful
Do you just toss everything after done? Is there a good way to reuse the medium or recharge it? Or just compost it?
We plant wheat without land; it grows beautifully without land. Before soaking, add soda, and ionize the water .... But the most important thing is the temperature !!!! Wheat loves + 17😁
Is ionising water from adding soda? Soda like soda bicarbonate ?
What to do with this coconut coir after harvesting.
How we can reuse again?
Sumit Billade Compost it.
No, add to compost, otherwise it will create mold and fungus
Is coconut coir the same as soil?
@@bryguy7304 no
Im impressed by your English. You dont have as much of an accent as I thought you would
Should coconut coir be used with all microgreens?
Thank for the best way 😊😊
In this video and in the one with the microgreens, did your containers and tray(in this video) have holes at the bottom for drainage?
No, you don't need the second/inside tray with holes in for this method of top-watering. You'd use the tray with holes inside another tray without holes if you were bottom watering.
Wow thats great and easy.
Jag you are adorable! Thank you for this technique on wheatgrass : )
Just wondering if it affects the nutritional value of the wheat grass since it isn't soil which has nutrients?
Most the nutrients come from photosynthesis
Hello. Do you need to make holes in the bottom of the tray before placing the sand so that there is room for water to get out of the mold ?? Thank you
If you are using regular soil or garden soil, then yes. If you are using coconut coir then no, coconut coir absorbs water like a sponge and the flat does not need drainage holes.
@@DaisyCreekFarms thank you !
Do I need to keep the tray indoor only? Not in direct sun right? Can I use aluminum foil tray?
Thank you for posting this wheatgrass video. It was very helpful to me.
Shorten name..keep jazz.your magical
I am trying this method now. Exactly as you recommended and my sprouted wheat berries are drying out. Some are sprouting but some are not. I wonder what I did wrong.
Nevermind Lol. They are growing now!
Thanks a lot!!!❤
Hello Sir,
Today I seen your video that how to prepare wheatgrass at home.
Can you explain me that you used only coconut peat or soil also?
Sat Shri Akal Ji, I use 50% coconut coir and 50% organic garden soil or seed starting soil.
Sat shri akal ji
Thanks for reply
@@DaisyCreekFarms How come you only mention coco coir in the video if you use 50/50 coir/soil?
Thanks for the video but I do have one question does it make a difference if the jar top is open or closed when u put the water in the seeds ?

I want to do this for my 5 kitties.....
Same. It's why I'm watching all these wheat grass growing videos lol...anything for my kitties ❤️ Attempting it next week, hopefully it works!

Thanks so much....i am growing wheat grass for the first time, and there are pretty droplets like water on each stem or leaf. It's not from watering them, and i'm not sure what causes these droplets. Do you know?
It's called guttation, the plant brings water from the soil to dump excess minerals
@@Faesharlyn Thank you!
Can you reuse coconut coir, for new batch. If so, what about vitamins in the soil?
Hey said you only had to water twice. He watered three times.

Nice
Nice video. Thank you
Nice shoot.Could have shown the harvesting part would have made 100 percent package.Thank You !!
To harvest, grab a handful of wheatgrass and cut it as close to the bottom as possible. Next, stuff it in your machine and squeeze out the juice.
Can this wheat gras be harvested only once? Can I cut grass at about 5-6 inches and let regrow for more harvest?
Apparently the nutrients are not that good as the first grass shoots.
Sir... Plz suggest how to prevent fungus while growing wheat grass
Great video. Thank you! New sub ;-)
Glad to found your channel I hope it will change my life healthy :)

It's in the description. It's called "Coconut Coir". It's extracted from the outer husk of coconut shells.
Is coconut coir better than organic soil? I also add vermiculite to my organic soil..if I tried cocnut coir woudl vermiculite be good to add to it?
Hi Jag Singh
Have you tried to let the plant mature and harvest more seeds?
Do you always just toss the grass when your done or ever plant somewhere ?
It’s super healthy to juice and drink it like a shot or something
And I have one more query what will be the optimum height for a wheat grass at the time of harvest
How do you do seed disinfection to prevent fungus?
That tray is not ready yet. You need to let it grow out a couple days till you see "splits", where the grass becomes two blades.
Very elaborate
Can this process be done with barley grass?
Thank you, this was really helpful :)
Is it possible to make a tea from wheatgrass?
Excellent video, very easy to follow instructions! I do have one question though, could I substitute coconut coir for peat moss as the growing medium? Thank you!
What I see in the video looks like the coco peat I have. Will be using the same
So when you cut the grass to juice it, does it grow back?
Yes, you can get 2 cuttings per tray of wheatgrass
Hi Jag,Can I use pot soil instead of coconut coir for the same results

does this process allow it to get the nutrients?
A lot of micrograms have all the nutrients they need to grow successfully for a week or 2 is what I've heard
