3 things: 1) Any Canadian who's ever shoveled snow would tell you -15 C is too warm to be wearing a bunch of winter gear; and 2) An igloo's entrance is typically met with a drop in elevation at the entrance (think a small pit) which catches cool air and provides shelter from wind, and must contain an elevated area inside that gets you near the roof where the warmer air is (fun fact, your body is what heats up an igloo); 3) Your body heat will naturally cause the inside to form an ice layer wich will seal the gaps naturally, no need for a slush mortar. Anyway hope this helps. (Of course I know this isn't a long term structure, whereas my tips 2 & 3 are most practical in a long term structure)
@Glenda Cooper Who said it was an "Eskimo fart"? I merely said I farted in an igloo. They are fun to build, but time consuming and I needed to fart to relieve not just pressure but anxiety as well. Don't judge me

Hey Drew, loved your story on CTV and just watched the video, I am going to share your video with my grade 12 transportation tech class to keep the awesomeness of life. Take care dude. Loved it.
built an igloo as a kid. it was pretty sturdy and warm inside without heating. it only lasted a few days because a neighborhood kid decided it would be fun to jump on it :/ never really had enough snow on the ground or the time since.
In Scandinavia, they spread a layer of evergreen boughs on the floor and lay a carpet over that, then build a small entranceway out of wood with a peaked roof and a little door. The latter is saved from year to year.
As a Saudi, I have never seen snow in my life. I lived in the sands of the Empty Quarter, and the temperature was 52 degrees Celsius, so thank God for the blessing...
Hey Drew! So funny, I also made a video about building an igloo to spend the night in a few weeks ago. Your’s was definitely fancier than mine. Good job on the extra touches 😉
This is the first video I've seen on this channel. Drew's attitude is refreshing. His comedic little quips are brilliant. I've jst subbed. Looking forward to chewing my way thru his catalogue of vids. Hi from Edinburgh, Scotland 👍🏽🏴👍🏽
Drew - I've looked at a couple of your videos and gotta say you are extremely creative as well as terrific at making your videos interesting... NICE JOB!
I can just see the HOA having a collective gasp. A couple of pointers from when we did it (on a much smaller scale) under the supervision of a guy from Ungava: if you build a spiral (so you start with thin, but slightly angled bricks of snow) then the compressive forces as the snow settles will actually reinforce the iglou. Build a platform (of snow if you don't want to do earthmoving) off the ground to get the living quarters closer to the roof where it's warmer. And have a long (at least 3 metres) tunnel to get in, that should ideally be below ground, in order to stop heat escaping out the doorway. Final advice: get yourself a loved one to share it with you, body heat will bring that internal temperature up past 3º.
Nice work! Ended up on your channel because facebook showed me your stone sink video. I thought the mansion was going to be way bigger until I seen the size of the oven.
Honestly i been saying this before covid that ppl need to take their power back not for themselves but for the generations to come. Grow your own food source your own heat and water. We need more inspiration and creation in building for a better future. ❤❤❤ I support anyone whos opting for offgrid and self sustainability❤❤❤❤❤🙏

Wow, up to 18.8k just six days after Shawn's reply... That's impressive!! I'm one of the new subscribers, I found this channel yesterday and hit the sub button immediately! Great content!
Tiny recommendation... mention the temperature units when you give the stats. When you said 3 degrees inside with a fire, I was wondering why your igloo is so much colder than my 34 degree-interior igloo. I scrolled back and confirmed the tiny "C" on your digital thermometer. Great build. I've been living in my powder-built igloo the last week (we don't have the luxury of snow blocks here)
I'd assume that if a video isn't from a US creator (or one of the 7 countries in the world that still use Fahrenheit as their main temperature unit) that any temperatures given are in degrees centigrade.
I think the most insane thing I can think of to go in your new igloo home is a hot tub! Also, I really enjoy watching you create all kinds of things. It reminds me of someone I know from Genesis 1. We were created in His image and you really prove the Bible with your many talents! God Bless you! 😃
Hi Drew, after CTV now watching your video on your channel. So cool, and GREAT seeing the Pizza oven again. Good for many more pizzas in the summer! I wonder if your parents' realty taxes will go up much with the addition of this major property improvement? cheers
Please help! My igloo home keeps disappearing during certain times of the year. It only seems to happen in the summer time and when it does I keep having to buy new TVs because they get flood damage! Any tips? (Fr nice igloo though)
If you are seeing this comment then I would really love to break it to you that you can actually really keep your igloo from melting and I will show you how it’s done. So to keep an igloo from melting first I would suggest to add water to the igloo and let it freeze to enhance its durability. Next cover the igloo with a thick layer white tarp to trap the snows cold air inside to keep it below, freezing, reflect the sunlight heat from the outside keeping heat from entering underneath to help maintain a colder temperature and even protect it from the rain due to the tarps, being waterproof. And for the big bonus, adding more thick layer white tarps to cover the igloo can further improve the igloo's survival in the heat due to more insulation. And for the results that I have already tested, if you use the thick layer, white tarp to cover the igloo, you can make the igloo survive a decent amount of days that are summer like temperatures that are literally sitting over 23°C as long as you secure it from the wind from the outside getting in. 👍
I watched some time ago old black and white documentary of eskimos. They built igloo as acspiral so you would not need to support the first block of each layer. And could make finishing ot the roof easier.
This is something like from Jules Verne's "The Adventures of Captain Hatteras" where they build a cozy snow-house to spend a winter in arctic (inspired by famous Ice Palace built in 1740 in St. Petersburg).
Wish we got some proper snow more often in Illinois, USA. It gets cold as heck, but snow is sadly rare, and would love more of it- whether it's for drifting, building igloos or sculptures, or straight up looking beautiful.

I know this is just a little fun video but isn’t the dryer duct you’re using considered unsafe to use for venting heat? Like would I be able to use that for a vent if I put a wood burning stove in my house?
I don’t think it would hold up for an actual stove. The heat coming off this little fire was pretty minor, online says they are good for 200 degrees f/ 93 c
