It is a song Billy Joel wrote to his daughter, Alexa ray, in order to answer 2 of his daughter's questions: "what happens when you die" and because of her father Billy's divorce to her mother she asked, "Daddy, will you leave me?" This song is Billy's way of telling Alexa that he will always be with her wherever he goes and also to express his idea of death to her, which is when you die, you go into the hearts of the one you love, and they carry you in their hearts for the rest of their lives.

Six perfectly pitched voices without an ego amongst them. All working closely together to produce a tonal masterpiece.

There isn't a better blend of voices than this right here. The song brings out the ability to blend and harmonize like nothing I have heard.
    Gentlemen well done!!!

What the bass (Stephen Connolly, who's leaving the group, sadly) does at 2:29 is simply amazing. That entrance is so difficult to pull off that gently and right on pitch, but he made it seem so easy. And you've just gotta love the ensemble balance they have, it's magical.

I first heard the King Singers when I was a student in the 70s. They had an LP called "Lollipops" which was equally enchanting. Just as good if not better now!

I have used this and other King Singers clips to calm and put my 6 month old baby to sleep from his first days home from hospital. He goes instantly calm and quiet with the sound of the first note. Amazing to watch and so precious. He knows good music!

Got to see these guys last week. Simply amazing when they performed this, even better than here if you can believe that.
I think one thing that tends to go unsaid is just how great these guys are not only as a group, but as individual singers as well. Paul Phoenix (3rd from left) has an amazing voice, and of course everyone knows about Steven and David. Put it all together and you get one amazing group.

    the sound of angels

  • @lorrainedubuis8495
    @lorrainedubuis8495 10 років тому +21

Goodnight my angel, time to close your eyes,
And save these questions for another day.
I think I know what you've been asking me,
I think you know what I've been trying to say.
I promised I would never leave you,
    Then you should always know
Wherever you may go, no matter where you are
I never will be far away.
Goodnight my angel, now it's time to sleep,
And still so many things I want to say.
Remember all the songs you sang for me,
When we went sailing on an emerald bay.
And like a boat out on the ocean,
    I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark and deep, inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me.
    (Humming)
Goodnight my angel , now it's time to dream,
And dream how wonderful your life will be.
Someday your child may cry, and if you sing this lullaby,
Then in your heart there will always be a part of me.
    Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabys go on and on
    They never die
That's how you and I will be
    French :
    Bonne nuit, mon ange

    Bonne nuit, mon ange

    Bonne nuit, mon ange

I think... the most important thing Ive taken from choral music is that music is fun, it is life. To those who want their music heard, they let it ring. More will come and sing in harmony, others will cry in dissonance, some will pause and give it a rest; but the single most important thing we must show with music is how we cannot judge. Because we understand what is good, we do not judge; if we judge what is to be good, we can never understand why.
