absolutely brilliant Brett! Hope your XJ40 electrical gremlins are also progressing well. I hope that forum thread I forwarded sheds some light. Rgds Edward.
Thank you for this video. About to do the same on my x300. Great advice.
Hi Brett it certainly made the car look 100% better I think whenyou get the clear coat on it will shine thanks for sharing your tips at the end of the video best regards Andy Allen.
LOL Brett.. takes me back.. at about 21, young, married and broke.. I did a full rattle can job on a Mini panelvan (with an 1100).. I guess that was anout equivalent in area to a Jag roof and boot.. later did an XA door, before flogging it, and was super suprised how well it came up
Good job. I use white spirit to remove tape glue, also great for tar spots and it’s cheap.
Yeah, same stuff, i think
Ive seen an FB Holden totaly sprayed in 2 pack spray cans and the finished job looked like it got done in a spray booth in a paint shop , its all about prep and taking ya time and knowing what ya doing
Jag looked so much better for the rattle can paint touch up.
Look forward to seeing the finished product with the clear coat. Thanks for your videos and your explanation of the process of doing the paint job.
Good job for a rattle can ...i tidied up an old silver fiesta i was able to get high pressure cans which helps ....are you going to have a follow up on this ?? 👍😎
Hamilton paint brush. Fleet tecaloid paint.
I knew a guy that was very good with these spray cans and he would do a lot of very fine coats, had to have good patience but the results were worth it.
I think that would be the best way to get the metallic even
Thanks Brett. I am no painter either but I did learn something today: flat the base before the clear. Never occurred to me. Keep up the good work.
Try Orange Power from supermarket cleaning aisle to remove masking tape gunk from metal trim.
Great tip!
WD40 is also very good.
you can place the spray can in hot water prior to spraying for a better even flow... there are also aftermarket spray nozzles for a better flow also... looks good
Thanks for the tip
Cool! That's actually what I'm doing a the moment on my XJ40 that has hit a deer. Mine is beige and the replacement hood and wing that I got are black, but the paint was really cooked and in bad condition, so a lot of work to get it right. I use spray putty, Dupli-Color for the paint and 2k Spray-Max clear coat. This stuff is expensive, but it's very good. 1K clear coat is just not good at all and doesn't last more than a few weeks before it goes bad, unlike the 2K.
...just discover you yt channel and I love it...I'm in Juárez, México and own 5 Jags at the moment...two S3, one '88 XJS, two X300...should I stay away of the V8's?...you find 'em real cheap over here...thanks for your great content...Saludos!
Welcome aboard! No, the V8s are pretty much bulletproof as long as the tensioners have been replaced on earlier models. Also, Nikasil was never not a problem in most other countries
Enjoy!
@@tjmthejagmandownunder ...thank you Sir!...guess I need a V8 now...
Ah, the old mashed banana peel Repo, brings back memories, didn't think you could buy it anymore.
My boss, sweared by it 40 years ago as the best cleaner prior to a good polish but up until recently i didn't realise it was silicone free. It smells a lot different than the original
Thought clear coat had to go on after 30 mins of applying basecoat with metallics? Good job anyway.
Possibly, makes sense
I've always felt cheap & dirty for using rattle-cans on a car but you have changed all that.
I use rattle cans on all my motorcycles faring jobs (as they’re fairly small areas) and usually come out pretty good but I do use an awful lot of cans!
I think all that sanding and buffing over the colour coat was a mistake as it’s normally done to the cured clear coat, (not the colour coat! ). Am I right buddy? - have you done the clearcoat yet?
I thought flatting and polishing always comes after the clearcoat? 🤔
Yes, with a rattle can. Professional painter, no!
That looked really good for a careful home job…. hope the weather lets you finish it soon .,
TJM, a question not related to this video but still Jag related ( is the bonnet on series 1-2 xj’s interchangeable? )
I'm pretty sure you can, but there may be modifications required to the hinges
Is the colour cobolt blue ?
Sapphire Blue
@@tjmthejagmandownunder I see..👍
"The paint is bum-hole"🤣
Better than what it was!
@@tjmthejagmandownunder You're like me, mate. I don't need a perfect Jag. I want one I can drive. I've got a Series 3. It has a shit-load of issues, but I love it.
