There are a lot of third parties who review the Islander. All are mostly positive. I upgraded my Orient Mako II which is basically an SKX style. With the ceramic lumbed bezel insert and sapphire crystal and coin edge bezel. All from Long island watch. They are all designed for the SKX and fit the Orient perfect.

Thanks for the honest comparison, Mark. I bought my SKX from you over a year ago, with a 12-hour sapphire bezel. I have bad eyesight, so I wanted the bright lume. This is the best watch I have for visibility day and night. You gave me the best price, and I really enjoy the watch. I live in Canada, and because of 8 months of wet winter, I wanted a dive watch. I'm outside a lot, and did not want to have to worry, period. I would consider buying an Islander in the future, with a blue or green dial and bezel. My only dislike of both the Islander and the Seiko watches is the minute and hour hands. I just don't like the Seiko styling. I would get more squared-off, bigger hands. I understand you offer customization on the Islander, so that's what I would be thinking about if I were to buy one in the future. At this point, I'm saving money for my first luxury watch. I’m a huge Seiko fan. But, I’ve been very frustrated over how large their divers generally are, particularly in terms of thickness. With a 6.5” wrist, not much over 12mm of thickness wears comfortably on my wrist. It would be GREAT to have more slimmer dive watch options. Perhaps you could accommodate that in a future Islander release. Just a thought.
@@islandwatch For inspiration could I suggest the skx027. I ended up impulse buying a used SKX027 and I'm loving the smaller size, thinner case, and the coin edge bezel. But with all of the charm of the SKX. White, Gold and Black doesn't hurt either. I'm thinking a thinner SKX would be a slam dunk.
You convinced me!! Ordered My ISL 02!! The extra Nato and rubber straps were also ordered. Outstanding free delivery service un the US. Now I am waiting for My friend Fernando to fly to Perú. Aloha from Peru. This will be my surfing toolwatch.😎
I love my skx but I am frustrated with the short power reserve and inability to hack or hand wind. Switching out the movement means opening the watch and will cost $150. The new seiko 5s with the hand winds are 100 metres rated too. Marcs option makes a lot of sense .. Will wait for the wave face!!
I appreciate your transparent review and understand the point you are trying to make. Wise people are free to make choices and you are just trying to rationalize their decision making by presenting different options which provide more value for money, no harm in it even if it is your own brand. At least you are upfront about it and acknowledge the shortcomings while comparing those two watches.
Two years ago when I got more seriously in to watches I _immediately_ called B.S. on the SKX type: trash movement, trash glass, trash bracelet, so-so beze insertl. After you replace all the faulty bits you have a perfect watch, lolol. And all that for only a $1,000 for a modded Seiko. LONG LIVE LONG ISLAND! LONG LIVE THE ISLANDER! LONG LIVE MARK!
Love your video's Marc - I think it's so cool that your enthusiasm for watches prompted you to make your own. Hope to one day one an Islander myself, simply knowing your history behind it and the great value it offers. Thanks for all your videos, honesty and knowledge!!! Also - that wave dial is fresh!!! Please keep listening to your customer's Marc - I think that's what makes your products so special.
Great video! I own one of each watch. I love them both. I purchased the Seiko because I wanted a piece of horological history. I have since modified my Seiko with A sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert an NNH 36 movement.I have also purchased an islander SKX. This watch was a great value. It basically already comes fully modified. I would recommend either watch!
You simply took the next logical step (in my opinion) of updating the "SKX line-up" where Seiko failed to do so in their S5 line. I have the SKX009J for its history and provenance but I love what LIW has done in modernizing for what Seiko should have done, which is why I bought the drop-dead gorgeous ISL-18. My only complaint: non-logoed bracelet clasp LOL 😄
Before the Islander was released, an SKX007 was at the top of my list. Recently I've been looking forward to buying a special watch for an occasion I have coming up, saving my pennies. Only problem is there's now 4 different Islander models sitting at positions 1-4 on my favorites list. You're doing too good of a job and making the decision to choose just one very difficult. As a fellow engineer who has spent his whole career working in 2 different industries who test to strict standards, I'm glad you have chosen to save cost by not perusing those certs. Great comparison!
The other day I wore two of my favourite watches. I told my gf it was because I was taking one to get serviced, but the truth is I just wanted to wear them both. Marc, the design of your watches is great. If you ever make smaller watches, I'm getting one.
I just got my ISL-02 today. I am very extremely impressed with it having wore it for a few hours so far. I was hesitant about that blue hue from the AR, but it is hard to see it in person, but have caught it in a certain light and I got to say I had nothing to hesitate about. The slight shine of blue looks amazing. The lume looks amazing along with the dial, case and bezel! Bracelet looks nice too! I got to say this might be my favorite watch I have owned after owning it for only a few hours so far. I'll be showing it up at work tomorrow. Expect more customers soon. Thank you Marc! Also I am looking forward to the new GMT model coming soon!
Yes. But no. Its a tool watch. It must be handy. and for me without manual winding it is not. IMHO if u want seiko printed on the dial go to Mini Turtle. Or Sumo, or Samurai
I’ve been eyeing the Islander and doing lots of research on it vs other watches. I think it’s an absolutely brilliant value for money. Can’t wait to place an order. Thank you Marc.
You were honest and right on all counts. If Seiko sold you Limibrite, I would never look at them again (well, maybe their solar divers). I definitely have the Islander full face lume diver in my future. Keep on keepin’s Marc!❤️
To the person who said that you do too many Islander Watch Videos ; There is NO SUCH THING as too many Islander Watch Videos. They are fantastic! Sapphire crystals - Lumed bezels and Yatch Master bezels - gorgeous! Lot's of options! The only reason I don't have one yet is I'm waiting till they come out with the Blue Saturday and Red Sunday (like the SKX as I love that feature).
My brother and I bought matching Islanders. He is way more of a watch guy than I am, and was super happy with his 009. Then he saw his Islander. And hasn’t even looked at his 009 since. I enjoy my ISL-2 :)
I've just added an STO Samurai in my collection. Have been eyeing the Islanders for a while now. They're moving up in the soon-to-buy list. Thanks for your video and your constant effort in improving your own.
I love my Islander. It's so comfortable, just the right size, I really love it. I got the white face with the blue ceramic bezel..... such a cool summer watch.
People seem to miss when you said “tongue in cheek”! People mod Seikos all the time with aftermarket non Seiko marked dials. Why not buy a stock watch with all the same features? I will be getting an Islander soon.
Yes, I kept looking at modding an SKX to fix the shortcoming, and that looked too time consuming. I could have done a "your watch your way", but an SKX tricked out the way I wanted was nearly $600 ( and that was before the prices shot up ). The Islander got me what I wanted for a fair price. I ended going with the ISL-09 which was fun, just because I had never seen that shade of blue on a watch before. Don't judge me, I might have a thing for blue dive watches.
For me, it has to be the SKX. The Islander is specced better, there is no doubt about it. But there is just something about looking down at your wrist and seeing the Seiko logo, a watch company that has been around for 100+ years, providing quality watches for the working man.
Second this. Sterile dial I would buy, it's tough to establish a brand, and I think Islander is a good brand, reminds me of Singer Porsches (intended as a huge compliment), but as with Singer sometimes you want the better/improved product without the aftermarket branding.
I own three Islanders, two of which are SKX style. I think some buy the SKX because they owned one in the past and it has nostalgia for them, and then there are others like me that are new to collecting and see the historical significance of the watch and want to own a piece of that history. I type this while wearing an ISL-18, which is the favorite of both my daughter and wife. They prefer it over far more expensive timepieces I own.
I got an SKX for my fathers day gift this year and it was one of my grail watches and I love it, hard to take it off my wrist. However I do really like the Islanders too and will have one very soon
Two days ago I got my islander isl-09. The blue one. I own a Seiko SKX, Orient Triton and the islander. Man, the colour is stunning with the islander. Took 3 Weeks to get to Germany but not was worth the time. The Islander is the better deal. Everything you would modify on a Seiko ist already installed. Love it
Ive waited too long for seiko to release a handwinding skx. They didnt. ISL came, made me pull the trigger (ISL 09), and i never regret it. I ordered all the way to Cebu Philippines. When the watch came I fell in love with it right away. Its one of the best looking watch in my small collection ;-) im thinking of getting the ISL 18 now ;-)
I wanted a SKX type (quartz) again as I had one back in 1985 for 18yrs. Hard to find parts like gaskets, seiko rubber bands, etc. back then. Amazing how far it's all come and Marc has taken it to a new level. Writing history I say. So I bought a ISL 44 as it is the same but better watch for me as Marc showed us.
The spec for value on the Islander is unmatched, but brand heritage is ultimately what made me decide on the 009. Do plan on picking up an Islander in the future though..I think they both can be enjoyed as their own separate thing. Maybe the numerals on the embossed ceramic insert would look better closer together? Just a cheeky suggestion!
Would have to concur with your suspicion. I bought my skx009 because it was being discontinued and I wanted a piece of 'history'. Was actually my first real 'dive' watch even though I learned to dive at 16. I've since also bought my first two islanders(on the way as we speak) and will certainly get a few more. Trying to hold off buying another before those get here.
Too much Islander? nah if anything I'd like to see more Mark, your brand has a lot to offer at a really great price, I would like to see a turtle style watch in a flat crystal soon! double domes just freak my eyes out under water LOL
Marc, the SKXs don't stand a chance against your great designs! You Rock! Your designs Rock! I have 10 watches in my "Favorites" in your website, 7 of which are Islanders! Your designs Rock my friend!! (Did I say that already?) Furthermore, in a few days, I'm acquiring your ISL-18. Then, as money permits, ISL-02, ISL-54, ISL-67, ISL-32 and finally, ISL-41 (a great mix of dress, every day and dive watches). Thanks again for sharing this comparison ... and Yes! I don't understand why people don't jump on your Islanders! :-)
Everybody appreciates Marc. I have an SKX and will buy an Islander as well because we support the enterprise and the risk he has taken on with his business. He has made a tribute watch and somehow made it more than that with design flair and customer focus. 38mm with a time zone Bezel please.
Marc, your critics be damned. I bought SKX009J and ISL-18 and I am happy and satisfied with both purchases, including a blue and black Mako USA II. Just sitting here waiting for your next creation that will pique my interest. 😁
Nice breakdown of the differences between the two watches Marc. At this point the only reason I see to buy the Seiko is the name and history behind it but the prices just don't make sense to me. Any plans on adding new Samurai style Islanders? I would love to see your take on the Samurai hands and some new colour options.
The -02 is what started it all for me. I've been a watch geek and Seiko fan "boy" (55 y.o. boy? Ok!)since I first learned to tell time. My first watch was a Seiko . Bought and wore a 7002 throughout my military service. I still wear it. I got out of watches for several years and about 8 months ago got back into it. Did some searches to get back up to speed on Seikos and found out about LIW. intrigued, I bought the 02. I now own 3 Islanders and another all from Marc and his company, with the latest being the ISL 31. I've bought accessories and emailed him with questions/comments. I have not bought another Seiko since. It's simple people: I, ME, like em. Biggest bang for your buck all around. I believe Marc a regular dude/watch geek doing a good job at what he loves to do, and also put food on his table for his fam. And as my choice as a consumer, I choose to buy his product and what he represents and advertises. Simple. Thanks again LIW for the cool watches. Look forward to seeing others come out.
watching this wearing my isl-05 on an MN strap from erika, absolutely killer watch i was basically only wearing g-shocks prior to picking up the islander and i swear this thing gets more wrist time than any other watch i own now keep it up mark! cant wait to see what sort of islanders you'll be selling a couple years down the line can we expect any 38mm pilot islanders in future?
If the wave dial Islander has the day as well as the date, it will be a must buy for me. Please consider putting a day complication on the final version!
My dad got to wanting an auto, as he doesn’t currently own one and the Islander is the first one I recommended. I’m not an expert but I probably know more about watches than anybody else my dad knows so I was the one he came to when he wanted an opinion on a good auto. You get so much for the money and he ordered one like you’re wearing (the Yacht Master look alike) I don’t think his had a red seconds hand though. I’m now wanting one of your hi-beat dress watches. Thanks for the great content Marc!
Mr. Mark I am still waiting for a true GMT in your brand, but you must admit may your watch have great features and looks great, The Seiko watch is fantastic looking, and great working watch too. Thanks for your opinion.
I love my Islander. A reliable, rugged, rock-solid watch and still great value despite the UK import charges. Can't understand the negatives in the comments here. What's not to like?
I would love to have the band off of the 007 in the Islander. You should offer a band like that. That would be my daily wear watch. Another great video Marc.
The ISL-013 I ordered from LIW actually arrived last week. So far it’s making a good impression. The movement accuracy is a bit unsteady, but it’s in line with other Seiko divers I have like the mini-Turtle and the 5KX. The black coating looks good. The nylon strap length does take some getting used to (the seam where it forms the spring bar loop is a bit stiff) but I think it’ll get more comfortable with time on wrist. About the only negative I can find (and it’s not really Mark’s fault) is that there was a $70CDN customs surcharge I had to pay in order to collect the watch from the post office. (Since they would have levied the surcharge with any watch bought from a US site, it’s not a surprise, but potential customers from outside the US should be aware of this.)
I was gonna buy an SKX and mod it... So I bought an Islander. If I was keeping it stock the SKX would be a great buy, especially a few years ago. Now that they're so expensive, the Islander just makes more sense.
Had I seen this before I decided buying the SKX007, I would have gotten this one. The 38mm diameter is very attractive to me and considering the materials on this watch, it's a more practical choice for me.
For myself, Lume is a deciding factor for my choice. If the islander had an orange sunburst dial, then i would go for the Islander over the seiko. Day and date are also important to my work and water resistance too. The seiko sports 5 2020 fails in all but the orange sunburst dial.
Great comparison 🙏. Next up should be the SKX013 vs an Islander, I wanna see their bezel action and lume go toe to toe! Your channel is growing, don't worry about the people saying it's too much Islanders lately. Ultimately we're gonna watch all videos either way.
To be honest I have not purchased a SKX but has wanted to, but the cost if a SKX does not merit the purchase and since it was discontinued it just has gotten higher. The Islanders has been a great alternative and watches on Aliexpress have been as well. That stated the closest to the SKX is the islander and I have been considering the purchase. This video actually answered many questions I have had, such as the case. Thank you Mark for the video and from what I know you are manufacturing them yourself correct?
Thank Marc great video! Still waiting for my first Islander. I would love to see a black faced Islander like the ISL 18 the gray bezel would really set it off. Looking forward to ISL 1 or 2.
You forgot to mention the Islander’s applied indices vs. the printed Seiko dial. (I already own my SKX and am planning to buy an Islander soon.) Speaking of which, I took too long to order my ISL-18. Any idea when they’ll be back in stock?
You might have won over another buyer.... maybe. One of the coolest developments during the time I have been a LIW customer, is the advent of customizing watches. We all have our own needs and wants when it comes to watches. For instance, I would be very interested in purchasing a 43mm version with a DD sapphire on a J-style bracelet with a Pepsi bezel insert and a white dial.... or perhaps that awesome wave dial, when it becomes available. I need to look into that further. Will your customers have the opportunity to make these sorts of choices? Keep up the great content!

Solar Tuna may be an option.
Thanks!
I love what you are building in regards to the Seiko look-alikes! They have all the specs and the style that I love! Great review as always Mark!!!
Glad you like them!
Thanks! I thought about logo-ing the clasp, but didn't want to be like Squale and have logos everywhere.
Very sharp watch. Will definitely keep yours in mind when I'm in another buying mood. Enjoy your videos as well. Very informative.
Just received my ISL 02 in uk, fabulous watch, £280 with all charges...great sevice marc .Thanks.
Marc, I'd love to see an Islander in the spirit of a SARB! Please make it happen, they would SELL!
Damnit someone was faster. Thank you Marc, the video I was honestly waiting for.
LOLOL
The SKX is an iconic legend from a brand with heritage and a history of innovation. There's just something's that specs can't compete with.
Yes. But no. Its a tool watch. It must be handy. and for me without manual winding it is not. IMHO if u want seiko printed on the dial go to Mini Turtle. Or Sumo, or Samurai
Overrated.
Sweet
Can never be too much Islander! Can't wait to be able to call one my own someday.
I've just added an STO Samurai in my collection. Have been eyeing the Islanders for a while now. They're moving up in the soon-to-buy list. Thanks for your video and your constant effort in improving your own.
Thank you
Just bought a yellow islander, such a great watch! Thanks Marc!
I love my Islander. It's so comfortable, just the right size, I really love it. I got the white face with the blue ceramic bezel..... such a cool summer watch.
When will you make a 38mm version of the yacht master clone?
Possible
That’s a good shout👍👍
@@islandwatch do it pls
Yes! Love that Yacht look alike!!!
@@islandwatch more 38mm please
I love your Islander watches!
Keep selling, you made your own watch brand that’s now even being sold on eBay... keep it up you’re doing something right. (Selling the right way)
People seem to miss when you said “tongue in cheek”! People mod Seikos all the time with aftermarket non Seiko marked dials. Why not buy a stock watch with all the same features? I will be getting an Islander soon.
Indeed they did!
But there is just something about looking down at your wrist and seeing the Seiko logo, a watch company that has been around for 100+ years, providing quality watches for the working man.
exactly
Understood!
Seiko brand is iconic. Give people the option to go sterile dial and sales of your microbrand vs. Seiko will increase greatly.
Okay!
Second this. Sterile dial I would buy, it's tough to establish a brand, and I think Islander is a good brand, reminds me of Singer Porsches (intended as a huge compliment), but as with Singer sometimes you want the better/improved product without the aftermarket branding.
I also would prefer a sterile dial. All the marketing stuff can fit on the caseback.
I just bought a ISL-01, I'm waiting for stock to come in on the ISL-18 and now I guess I need the wave watch too. You are going to make me go broke...
Sorry :(
It is exactly what I got (ISL-01 and ISL-18). I enjoy wearing them.
ISL 24 and 25 and i will die a happy man 😁
You have my vote. Keep on doing what you are doing. Can't wait to see what you introduce next.
Thanks!
Love it
But "it" was. "Not" is one of these autocorrect difficulties
Thanks.
True, thank you
Would have to concur with your suspicion.
Love the Islander, wish there was a GMT variant, mostly because I'm in the market for one lol
Me too, i've been asking marc for a year!
(Did I say that already?)
Furthermore, in a few days, I'm acquiring your ISL-18. Then, as money permits, ISL-02, ISL-54, ISL-67, ISL-32 and finally, ISL-41 (a great mix of dress, every day and dive watches).
Thanks again for sharing this comparison ... and Yes! I don't understand why people don't jump on your Islanders! :-)
I love my Islander watch & want another. You cant beat the price 🔥
Everybody appreciates Marc. I have an SKX and will buy an Islander as well because we support the enterprise and the risk he has taken on with his business. He has made a tribute watch and somehow made it more than that with design flair and customer focus. 38mm with a time zone Bezel please.
Always wanted an SKX but for the price and the features? I'd go for the Islander!
Cool!
Marc, your critics be damned. I bought SKX009J and ISL-18 and I am happy and satisfied with both purchases, including a blue and black Mako USA II. Just sitting here waiting for your next creation that will pique my interest. 😁
Thanks!
Nice touch putting the logo on the crown!
Nice breakdown of the differences between the two watches Marc. At this point the only reason I see to buy the Seiko is the name and history behind it but the prices just don't make sense to me.
Any plans on adding new Samurai style Islanders? I would love to see your take on the Samurai hands and some new colour options.
There will be more.
Thanks for watching, and for commenting.
Hi Mark. Love the islanders. Can you offer duty free shipping to the UK? Thanks
OK.....finally a watch I really want....the wave dial. Sign me up. When can I order? Mountains next??
watching this wearing my isl-05 on an MN strap from erika, absolutely killer watch
i was basically only wearing g-shocks prior to picking up the islander and i swear this thing gets more wrist time than any other watch i own now
keep it up mark! cant wait to see what sort of islanders you'll be selling a couple years down the line
can we expect any 38mm pilot islanders in future?
Thank you! There are more pilots coming soon, but not 38
Can't wait for that wave dial release!
If the wave dial Islander has the day as well as the date, it will be a must buy for me. Please consider putting a day complication on the final version!
I'm ready for that wave dial watch, marky mark
Ok!
Love it! Gonna buy the full lume dial version.
Hey Marc, please restock the 38mm version, please. It's been out of stock for quite some time. Yes, I'm on the list.
I am! VERY soon.
Mr. Mark I am still waiting for a true GMT in your brand, but you must admit may your watch have great features and looks great, The Seiko watch is fantastic looking, and great working watch too. Thanks for your opinion.
Thanks for watching.
I love my Islander. A reliable, rugged, rock-solid watch and still great value despite the UK import charges. Can't understand the negatives in the comments here. What's not to like?
I'm glad I got my SKX when I could. I wouldn't rule out a Islander, since it has good specs and value.
Thanks so much. Taxes!
Great watch! Marc I think you should make islander wall clock! with quiet sweep with lumed hands and markers! that works on single AA battery
Cool idea!
I would buy an Islander wall clock! 😀
I would buy one too if it had a quiet sweep
I was gonna buy an SKX and mod it... So I bought an Islander. If I was keeping it stock the SKX would be a great buy, especially a few years ago. Now that they're so expensive, the Islander just makes more sense.
Having in mind the recent price bump of the SKX's, they really don't stand a chance
Thanks!
Thanks for commenting
Really need thoes 38mn islanders to be back in stock. The fact that they're all sold out compared to the 42 mm speaks volumes
I’m glad I saw this, been wondering if you had an Islander equivalent to the SKX. Those SKXs are at insane prices now
Great comparison 🙏. Next up should be the SKX013 vs an Islander, I wanna see their bezel action and lume go toe to toe!
Your channel is growing, don't worry about the people saying it's too much Islanders lately. Ultimately we're gonna watch all videos either way.
Got it :)
Keep up the great content!
thanks for reminded me why i bought the islander. looks good with the nato strap. great watch !
Own an islander, loving it!
DOXA Homage would be great. Any chance ? Love what you have done improving on SEIKO classic divers.
Keep up the good work mark dont listen to the haters
Your islander watches are great!!!!
Thanks
