    Thank you so much! After 8 months at the gym. I wanted something more than the treadmill and the track. I was given a quick lesson by gym staff, but I knew that it wasn't enough and started here to learn more. Your instructions are so detailed, while be easy to understand. So grateful 🤩💯

    Put the damper between 3 and 5. In the UK we call that 4.

      Love this, thank you so much for saying it! Our whole goal at UCanRow2 is to make rowing easy for people to follow. Because it really can be! Too many people in the rowing world want to overcomplicate it from the get-go. It doesn't have to be that way. We're glad you're here!

    • @jeffmutter2286
      @jeffmutter2286 Рік тому

      Honestly not too well. Normally rowers are level, but this one has a slight backward tilt that I don’t like. I can only go about 5 minutes max before the muscles between my pelvis and quads (abductors) have had enough. They literally have to pull me back “up” the rail after every stroke. I guess muscles I have never used before. I can lift weights, ride a spin bike full throttle forever, or kill my BF Maxtrainer, but can only muster 5 minutes on this thing after which I can barely walk. Weird.

    • @UCanRow2
      @UCanRow2  Рік тому

      Ugh that sounds rough. What brand of machine is it? Can you raise the back of it to get it more level?

    • @jeffmutter2286
      @jeffmutter2286 Рік тому

      It’s a Dmaster R3000 Air Rower…yes I put a piece of 2x4 under the back legs but need another stacked on that one…then it should be fairly level…I will keep at it

    • @UCanRow2
      @UCanRow2  Рік тому

      Wow that must be a SERIOUS incline you're dealing with! If you have to raise it up that much, just be sure you're giving yourself a wide enough base at the back. I'd hate for you to get going hard and have the machine slide off the 2x4!

      Did you end up giving rowing a try? It has loads of benefits and can be great for people with joint replacements and similar issues because it's low-impact.
      Other benefits:
      - It meets you where you are: it's a joint-friendly, low-impact exercise that's good for people of all ages and fitness levels
      - It works all the major muscle groups, to the tune of 86 percent of your muscles on every single stroke
      - It's great for building your heart and lungs, and
      - It can help build bone density to some degree (although you will also definitely want to add in strength training to help with that)

      Ouch! Yes definitely give it a rest. A couple of other thoughts: Remember that the rowing stroke is 60 percent legs, so make sure they're doing the lion's share of the work. Also consider having a certified instructor check your technique, there might be an easy fix!

    I train at a gym with a personal trainer and I dread the rower-even though he tells me I'm improving all the time. I dread the panting and heaving I find myself doing do when I finish the routine (whether 500meteres, 1000 meters or 2000 meters.). ( am 75 YO and have a pace-maker). Is this normal to sit there and try and catch your breath after a routine?
    I love your presentation.

    • @UCanRow2
      @UCanRow2  Рік тому +2

      That depends on the goal of your training. Is it meant to be high-intensity?
      Regardless of the goal of THOSE sessions, I would encourage you to find some time to try some slower, more rhythmic rows. If all you ever do is work super hard on the machine, you're missing out on some of its most amazing benefits.
      The rowing machine is also great for moderate- and low-intensity training, and I wish more people (and trainers) would give themselves the gift of seeing what it's like to slow down on the rowing machine!

      Welcome to rowing! We would much rather you slow down and get comfortable with the rowing stroke before starting to ramp up your effort. Don't worry, you'll start to work harder as you get learn the stroke. There's no rush, and you're still getting benefit from it even if you're not out of breath! As for the resistance, I'm not sure what brand you have but if it's a moderate resistance level (neither the hardest nor the easiest) that's a great place to start. Keep me posted!

    Hi ! Thanks for the tutorial! Us there any way to make the seat more comfortable? I had a lower lumbar fusion L4 through S1 and sitting on anything hard immediately puts pressure on my back

    • @UCanRow2
      @UCanRow2  2 роки тому

      Hi Tina! There's a whole range of options - and prices - for seat pads, what works best is individual to each person. For starters, you could get some quarter-sized bubble wrap and try a piece of that on your seat. Or just fold something like a hand towel and put that on your seat (be sure to keep it out of the way of the seat rollers though). That will give you a sense for whether a pad could help you.
      I also had a student who was super slender and struggled with pain in her hips and low back from having her sitz bones on the seat. She used a piece of eggshell foam and that worked great for her.
      My only caution is, don't go too thick with whatever you use. That will change the angle of your stroke and may cause more problems than it solves ultimately.
      Keep us posted! - Sarah

    I’m 59 yo M with some recovering lower back issues. Can I row everyday? Will rowing reinjure my back?

    • @CassiNiemann
      @CassiNiemann 2 роки тому

      Hi Sam - great question and we're glad you're considering rowing! The rowing stroke is not innately dangerous so there is no reason to think it would re-injure your back. In fact, it should strengthen it to a degree! But we would recommend you titrate up your volume as appropriate and certainly spend some time learning how to row in the most effective way. Sitting up tall, using your legs to initiate the drive, rowing slow, and engaging your core, lats and back will definitely put you in a better position to get more out of the movement and feel supported.

    I tried the same machine at my gym today but it felt like I didn't get tired. I'm probably doing it wrong. Lol I set the lever at 3 then 5 then 10 but I couldn't get tired. I used it for about 15mins total before I gave up. And oh, I tried another machine but still same result. Am I supposed to row longer, maybe faster??? 🤔

    • @UCanRow2
      @UCanRow2  Рік тому +1

      It could be a couple of things:
      1. The machines may be dirty, which would make it harder to feel anything coming from the flywheel. If you look at the machine, is there dirt blocking the holes in the metal strip that surrounds the flywheel? You can also check the drag factor by going to More info > Check Drag Factor from the monitor's main menu. If that number is below, say 100 even at 10, that may well be the issue. If so, alert your gym's staff that they need to clean the flywheels.
      2. You may also be missing out on power in your own stroke by not connecting well at the catch. Focus on getting a strong PUSH with your legs, regardless of what's going on with dirt in the machine that will help you get more out of your stroke.
      3. If you'd like us to take a look at your stroke and give you some tips you can post a video of you rowing from the side in our RowStrong group on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/RowStrong
      We're here to help!
