The excess printing of fiat is a form of control. The Fed targets a 2% inflation rate. This encourages people to spend their cash instead of saving it, since every year, your dollars are worth less and less. It's better to spend them before they lose their value, after all. This stimulates the economy, but it's an economic death spiral. The dollar has lost around 99% of its original purchasing power, and that's by design. The government can borrow and borrow, paying back later with vastly-devalued currency. The National Debt is currently at almost 35 trillion dollars, and going ever higher by the second. What do politicians care? They'll just print more money until the dollar has lost the remaining 1% of its value and hyperinflation kicks in. When that happens, they'll scrap the dollar and introduce a new digital currency and start the whole process over again, but with even more of a strangle-hold on the individual's economic freedom. Every pending transaction will be scrutinized before approval is given or withheld. Cash will no longer be king, but gold and silver, tangible, discreet mediums of exchange outside the monetary system, will be more important than ever.
