- A sew along video showing all the steps to complete your Vali Dress using my instructions, which differ slightly from the printed ones.
The dress is made in viscose crepe fabric called 'Petula' from Fabric Godmother.
www.fabricgodmother.co.uk/pet...
I made a size 12 dress with the standard neckline and lengthened the dress by 15cm. For reference, I'm 6'2" (1.88m).
I've made a couple of changes to the pattern construction - instead of using facings, I've fully lined the yoke. To do this I cut 4 pieces of the front yoke A, and 2 pieces of the back yoke B.
I've included timestamps for the main parts of the construction. I've included the numbered steps from the main pattern instructions, where these match to my construction methods, so you can follow along from the part that you need.

Loved watching you sew this. A little too difficult for me but I still learned a lot. Thank you.

I’m not planning to make this dress but I like the fabric, so I watched your video and am so glad I did! There are so many useful tips for gathering, hemming, stay stitching, sewing viscose, lining, and so on and so on! Definitely one to save 👏👏👏

Wow! This is a fantastic tutorial. Just about to get going and having had several friends swear over the construction of the Vali, I'm so glad I found you!!
I’m so pleased you found me too!

Hopefully the construction of the dress will now be much easier 🤞
@@HouseofMissSew Just finished! Honestly these instructions are impeccable! Many thanks.
@@katecoleman2871 thank you so much ☺️
Great job! Love the changes you made in the construction. Those pockets look very small indeed.
Thank you ☺️
I’ve just bought this pattern & fabric , I’m pretty new to sewing & I was thinking this was a bit of a challenge but now that I’ve seen your fab tutorial I think I’m going to attempt it , thank you so much
You’re welcome! I Hope thé video helps. Happy sewing ☺️
Thank you so much!! As a novice sewer, I could not have made this dress without your amazing tutorial. So easy to follow and I loved learning new techniques. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you for such wonderful feedback! I’m really glad I could help you ☺️
just about to start this dress, thanks for the video x
No problem. Hope you find it useful ☺️
I'm so happy I found your tutorial ! I don't have a serger and I'd come to the conclusion that french seams, which are my go-to finishing method, wouldn't do the trick with the precise sewing of the yoke and that a full lining would be both simpler and neater.Your tutorial is so precise and detailed, thank you so much ! I'm going full glam rock with the infamous Lady Mc Elroy Corsage fabric in black cotton lawn ;-)
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback 😀
I bet your dress looks fabulous! - I love the Cobra Corsage fabric so much so that I made 2 dresses out of it 😂
Very helpful and simplified tutorial. Thank you ☺️
Thank you! You’re welcome ☺️

Thanku xxxx
You’re welcome! I hope you find it useful 😊
Such a great sew along and the dress looks fabulous on you.
Please can you share the elastic threading needle you used. X
Thank you so much! 😀 I’m really sorry but I have no idea where the elastic threader came from. I think I inherited it from a family member. It’s a type of bodkin. I found these similar on Amazon:

Could I use stiffen spray for this fabric ?
You could use a spray starch or something to keep the fabric firm while sewing and then wash out once you're ready to wear the garment. I don't have any recommendations for this as it's not something I've tried but there's plenty of advice out there online.
I have the same fabric and have been wanting make a Vali using it but I’m scared as never worked with slippery fabric before 🫣 will definitely try your interfacing strip trick, thank you!
The interfacing around the neckline will definitely help to avoid stretching out the fabric. Use plenty of pins to keep the fabric in position. Good luck!
