This is a really great sew a long. I'm always so grateful to you fabulous seamstresses who take time to film these tutorials, it must take ages. Wonderful Julia, thank you so much. Your finished dress looks beautiful. I'm over the moon with mine
Thank you for your lovely comment! ☺️ It did take ages to film and edit so I’m really pleased you’ve found it useful 🥰 Hope you have somewhere fancy to wear your new dress 👗🤩
I just used your video this week to make this dress to wear to a wedding and it was really really helpful! I made mine in rayon and I'm thrilled with it, but I have to say, your cutting is so incredibly accurate. mine definitely needs work. I find it really hard, but as you matched your pieces they were just perfect and everything was so neat and pristine. I'm really impressed and I look forward to learning to do better in that regard myself.
Thank you so much!! Rayon is much more difficult to work with than the viscose/ linen blend that I used in the video. Rayon moves a lot as you lay it out and cut, so don’t be too hard on yourself ☺️ Pattern weights and a rotary cutter can help with this type of fabric. Hope the wedding goes well and the other guests are suitably impressed with your dress 🤩
Hello Julia, I am a beginner sewist and have just found your channel when this peony dress video popped up. My jaw dropped because I just love sleeves of this length with flounces. You really cannot beat a good flounce and I just HAVE to try and make it. So far, I have only made two easy skirts and some covers for appliances, but really want to dressmake. I know this pattern is classed as intermediate, but after having watched your excellent video a couple of times, I feel able to sew along with it, partly because of your teaching and partly because your camerawork is so good and clear. I love how you explain everything fully and why you are doing a step in a particular way, which is so helpful. I live in rural Scotland and there are no sewing classes near me, so your videos are a lifeline. Please continue the sewalongs. Kindest regards, Jill x
I really appreciated the clarity of your instructions; easy to follow along. Thank you! I must admit tho I was a little confused/disappointed that you didn't wear the Godmother Peony Dress at the end of the video; however, the other dress is lovely.
Thank you!! Sorry I’m not wearing the dress made in the ‘Gertie’ fabric shown in the video. The samples I made during the video were used for the photos on the Peony Dress instructions so there wasn’t a finished dress 🙁.
Thank you so much!! I’m so pleased that all your hard work was worth it to make a beautiful dress!! Just make sure you get plenty of wear out of it! Mine is spending too much time in the wardrobe! 😂
Wow Julia! This is so useful - and I've not even finished watching it all yet 😀 You're such a great teacher - clear, calm & methodical - and as a self-taught dressmaker there are tons of useful tips & tricks here (with the gathers & zip etc) that I know I'll be able to use to improve the finish on other makes too. I'm quite tempted to give this pattern a go on the next #southwicksewingweekender though you might be sick of it by then 🤪
Thank you so much for this. Absolutely fabulous video. Made my first ever dress from a pattern. I am so delighted. Could never have done this without your video❤
My shoulder seams are not matching. I have measured the length of both the back and front shoulder seams on the pattern piece and they are both 10cm long the back seam has a dart so it ends up around 9cm. . Did you have this issue? It looks like your seams matched!
@@nolacook7344 that’s very strange. I’ve measured my pattern and the shoulder seams are correct. Can you email me a photo of your pattern pieces for front and back? I wonder if there’s an error in the cutting line. Julia@houseofmisssew.com

Ps thank you so much for a really great tutorial! I forgot my manners in my panic😂
Thank you for watching! I didn’t have any issues with the shoulder seams. What type of fabric are you using? Could it have moved out of shape?
Have made toile and had same problem with shoulder seam Measurements same for front and back but dart has to be sewn ??? 18thAugust
