i played goomy on netplay once (best samus main in my state) and he would do super wave dash and cancel his forward momentum with a super wave dash back. dudes insane
useful tip for double jumping quickly enough to missile cancel on battlefield/dreamland: perform the first hop with Y then immediately slide your thumb to X so that the double jump animation comes out almost instantly. always able to start getting missile cancels right away when i started doing it this way and i was unable to do it at all before
Goomy is the most technical Samus alive. Look up "Eat your heart out Phanna". It's his tech skill video. and he does all of the stuff in the video in tournament matches. Goomy hands down
Thx for this video. I started training melee 3 days before and am able to do all the basic stuff, so thank you for showing some advanced techniques to keep me improving :D
3:29 Idk for certain that randal doesn't affect it but forward momentum is usually why it happens. I haven't practiced it extensively but from how consistently I have gotten it I think its just a precise drift spacing and a precise air dodge angle. I have gotten it without randal there
Reminder: crouch cancel jabs are VERY EASY. If you hold a diagonal, you can true CC and ftilt or jab, depending on forwards or backwards. If you hold the down back notch, you can CC jab, while forward is CC ftilt. Works in PM as well, as long as the character doesn't have a crawl.
my favorite technique as Samus is short hop side B/Charge shot or nair off of ledge which is a really easy way to get back on the ledge depending on where they are
You don't input the SWD "as soon as you hit the ground". You input it on frame 42, which is actually after the first time you bounce after hitting the ground.
On battlefield you don't need to double jump to platform missile cancel, it is possible to do it with just a shorthop. In fact, your clip with esam was an example of this.
Plup is undoubtedly the best samus. While HugS has been my favorite player for like a year, Plup's performance at BOTFG against Mang0 showed how incredible he is. It literally looks like he's not even playing the same character as HugS and Duck.
In not disagreeing with the plup And duck votes but Wes is something to watch. The old school creativity is just entertaining and he makes Samus look like you want to play her
This reminded me of the "Co_me Get Technical" Samus video from almost 10 years ago. Crazy how little Samus has developed, yet still is quite a force to be reckoned with! #Samus all day bby
About the platform cancel missile on Battlefield, you don't have to time a quick double jump to land on the platform with the missile. You have to run forward into it and I think it works if you move backwards, but I'm not sure. ESAM made a video on it and he's the only one who does it consistently.
+Skailler You just have to be moving at a minimum lateral velocity so your ECB (Environment Collision Bubble) and the platform of Battlefield can clear each other resulting in being able to land.
The the tsunami dash thing isn't there a version of that for Yoshi? Whenever I watch aMSa he always slides arouns really fast in the egg and I really want to figure out how. Make a vid for Yoshi tsunami dash and some sick Yoshi stuff in general! He's underrated.
i feel that all the top 3 samus(hugs, plup and duck) have all very diffrent playstyles, and diffrent samus relly, and the best samus for me is relly tight between plup an duck, but since plup dosent play samus anymore, then my vote is duck. also great vid guys
On battle field you can do running SH weak missiles on the platform you don't have to do the instant double jump. Also plup probably still has the best Samus but Hugs is the best Samus main IMO.
will you do a tutorial on shine spiking fox? not just the frame data on when the hitbox but like should i be going for the first 20 frames or the last 10? a good way to practice it alone? should i react to firefox or read it and jump out?
Is there a way to do the tumble grapple with link? I know his tether is a bit shorter than samus' and his fall speed probably doesn't help but it could be handy for giving him more options.
I cant help you with your "Nair only" problem, but I think I have an explantion as to why the Grapple Beam doesnt come out in the first place. You can only use Zair once before landing (grabbing a ledge does not refresh it either), so my best guess is that you didnt touch the ground during your attempts to practise. If youre too close to a wall, the Zair wont come out either and you just enter helpless state (on the bright side, Rising Grapple while too close to a wall gets Samus really high if done correctly).
At the right percent they'll get knocked over and have to tech the ground. You time it on the missed tech and hope they don't press L/R. It's not really a "50:50" but it's a strong tech chasing option if you know the opponent isn't good at reaction teching. You might be able to cover their tech away option as well if the stars align and you pray to the Melee gods. Overall I would only throw out a charge shot if you know it's going to kill or you're 100% confident of it hitting since you only usually get them once a stock. This means comboing into it, gimping people (if they have no other options or you read their recovery) or gambling when the opponent is at higher percents and the stage is small. I haven't used u-air interupting to get back on stage since I just waveland to get as much ground as possible but I see no reason why you can't interupt to get back on stage after a tumble. The game doesn't care what animation you're in before the move because you'll perform the u-air animation anyways right before hitting the ground.
zegtronic on Battlefield you can do a platformcancel *homing* missile by shorthopping, but on YS and PS you do a *smash* missile. This is because the animations before the missile comes out differ between the two types of missiles (24 and 15 respectively) and this corresponds with different platform heights for canceling.
Do you guys know which techs aren't possible on PAL? I've tried the extended grapple and super wave dash a million times on my version but can't, and apparently some things are different D:
Worth mentioning is the fact that the Extender is exclusive to the NTSC edition of the game, and does not exist in PAL. Not that big of a loss though :P Also, difficulty 5.5/10 on super wavedash? :O You've only got one frame to pull it off, so it's really hard doing it consistently :/
How did ESAM platform cancel the missiles on battlefield without double jumping? Also I can't seem to get my double jump that short, is there a special way to make the double jump that short? Ty for your time if you read and/or reply to this
I'm really new at serious Melee play, can anyone list the command for wave dashing? I see it used in tournament play and it looks like a necessity for any player, especially Samus mains.
This should be called "How to beat Leffen"
underrated
plup destroyed leff💀💀
i played goomy on netplay once (best samus main in my state) and he would do super wave dash and cancel his forward momentum with a super wave dash back. dudes insane
he is sick!! also nice profile pic
Wow, well edited and very informative :)
Make another smash bros vid
Ludvix make a video ya lazy fack
I love how the crowd gasps everytime Samus performs the Instant Freefall Grapple.
Not mentioned in the video but the extender does not work in PAL.
@Aaryan Kumar "fixed"
@Aaryan Kumar I wouldn't call that a "fix".
@@liamfoote7164 it's a fix by conventional means. If a test asset is readily accessible it probably should be fixed
@@illford It's a cool feature, no reason to take it out.

Plup is the best samus
in the world!
Luke Taylor yuuuuppp
Plup has best Samus.
Hugs is OG tho
best samus?
Westballz.
Jk Plup is probably the best
useful tip for double jumping quickly enough to missile cancel on battlefield/dreamland: perform the first hop with Y then immediately slide your thumb to X so that the double jump animation comes out almost instantly. always able to start getting missile cancels right away when i started doing it this way and i was unable to do it at all before

As much of an OG HugS is, you have to admit, Plup is a goddamn hero
3:29
Idk for certain that randal doesn't affect it but forward momentum is usually why it happens.
I haven't practiced it extensively but from how consistently I have gotten it I think its just a precise drift spacing and a precise air dodge angle. I have gotten it without randal there
How did ken not even make that list?
Because after Ken mostly stopped the smash community blew up
The only SATs I study for is the Samus Advanced Techniques
This is why I am in Community College
Plup is the best Samus imo, though out of the existing Samus mains, Duck is the best
+Callum Vicary plup was the best one, he went so bad with his samus.. -.-
You can also cancel the charge with Z, also worth noting that the extender doesn't work in PAL. Thanks for the vid
Phil O can you elaborate, and/or direct me somewhere when I can read/watch about this?
WHERE is the SuperDoodleManSuperDaughterDash SuperWaveDashDance?!?!?!?
my favorite technique as Samus is short hop side B/Charge shot or nair off of ledge which is a really easy way to get back on the ledge depending on where they are
It would be awesome if you would do another video like this, but covering Yoshi's advanced techniques!
You don't input the SWD "as soon as you hit the ground". You input it on frame 42, which is actually after the first time you bounce after hitting the ground.
You must be fun at parties.
Yes, I'm a horrible spoil sport for trying to give people the correct information on an informational video. What a piece of shit I am.
FortWhenTeaThyme yo man, thanks for cleaning it up for me. the other guy is just an idiot who wanted to seem superior for no reason. thanks man.
Ya I struggled for so long with swd, this video confused me on it
On battlefield you don't need to double jump to platform missile cancel, it is possible to do it with just a shorthop. In fact, your clip with esam was an example of this.
I had no idea Samus had all of this tech, very interesting.
Thanks very helpful as I just picked up samus recently and didn't find anything about crouch jabs.
Plup is undoubtedly the best samus. While HugS has been my favorite player for like a year, Plup's performance at BOTFG against Mang0 showed how incredible he is. It literally looks like he's not even playing the same character as HugS and Duck.
Goomy is the swaggest Samus alive. Nobody else does aerial super wavedash edgeguards in tournament.
Finally, some Samus love.
Much appreciated :)
Pulp is the best samus, btw you might want to add an annotation to extender to let people know that it was removed from pal so it's ntsc only
Plup definitely has the best samus
Did you ever make a part two for this?
as a samus main id like to propose 'instant freefall grapple' is called the space jump
Someone can explain how to do Up-air interrupt (1:57)? The video misses to explain it.
Solo Samus (meaning no Plup), Hugs and Duck are 2 great ones to note.
I JUST STARTED PLAYING SAMUS THANK YOU SO MUCH! GONNA GO PRACTICE THESE NOW :DDDDDDDDD
While I'd prefer a falcon combo video since he and Samus are my primary 2 mains, I think there's a huge lack of good Sheik tutorials
+ViolentSh4de Ayyy i dual main Falcon/Samus too :D
In not disagreeing with the plup
And duck votes but Wes is something to watch. The old school creativity is just entertaining and he makes Samus look like you want to play her
This reminded me of the "Co_me Get Technical" Samus video from almost 10 years ago. Crazy how little Samus has developed, yet still is quite a force to be reckoned with! #Samus all day bby
the best Samus, Hugs. Some would say Plup but Plup got to where he is mainly with Sheik and Hugs did it all with Samus!
Plup is by far the best, and most entertaining Samus to watch.
About the platform cancel missile on Battlefield, you don't have to time a quick double jump to land on the platform with the missile. You have to run forward into it and I think it works if you move backwards, but I'm not sure. ESAM made a video on it and he's the only one who does it consistently.
I still dont know how that works, ESAMs video doesnt really explain it too well in my opinion. Definetly need to look more into this soon
+Skailler You just have to be moving at a minimum lateral velocity so your ECB (Environment Collision Bubble) and the platform of Battlefield can clear each other resulting in being able to land.
Flashburn 117
So, I basically SH forward at snail speed and fire a Missile? That sounds reasonable, thanks!
The the tsunami dash thing isn't there a version of that for Yoshi? Whenever I watch aMSa he always slides arouns really fast in the egg and I really want to figure out how. Make a vid for Yoshi tsunami dash and some sick Yoshi stuff in general! He's underrated.
Note to European and Australian players: you don't get an extended grapple. Blame NoE.
+FishamanP rip off
Best Samus is Plup without a doubt, even if he doesn't use it that much anymore his is on a whole new level from hugs/duck/everyone else
Plup is by far the best Samus. Not even a question.
i feel that all the top 3 samus(hugs, plup and duck) have all very diffrent playstyles, and diffrent samus relly, and the best samus for me is relly tight between plup an duck, but since plup dosent play samus anymore, then my vote is duck. also great vid guys
Hey, plup plays samus when he wants to win against leffen
Why did you not discuss HOW to do some of these moves like “up air interrupt”?
On battle field you can do running SH weak missiles on the platform you don't have to do the instant double jump. Also plup probably still has the best Samus but Hugs is the best Samus main IMO.
+1jmanthree What about Jesse?
he is just a baddie
+1jmanthree have you heard of Dachshund?
+1jmanthree have you heard of Dachshund?
nope
I know some of these techniques don't work in the PAL version. Can you specify which ones these are?
Also really great video again!
When I do the platform cancelled missiles on Story/Stadium, I can't get the second middle out when coming down. Any advice?
shoot the missile earlier. its all about timing you will get it eventually.
Pudgy Hydreigon be sure that you input a smash missile and not a homing one! The technique is pretty tearing on your hands.
will you do a tutorial on shine spiking fox? not just the frame data on when the hitbox but like should i be going for the first 20 frames or the last 10? a good way to practice it alone? should i react to firefox or read it and jump out?
THE EXTENDURRRR
Goomy is the most technical Samus in the world. I've played him before and his neutral, pressure, and edge guards are equal to his technicality.
Plup has the best Samus. Also, do ICs or Yoshi next!
Nice shot Hugo
Is there a way to do the tumble grapple with link? I know his tether is a bit shorter than samus' and his fall speed probably doesn't help but it could be handy for giving him more options.
Duck with Plup being a close secound
What is a 10 difficulty? How is that scale defined? I think SHFF missiles are already super freaking hard and that's only an 8?
I keep getting the Nair when i try doing everything from rising grapple and on, or the grapple doesnt even come out after the air dodge.
If youre too close to a wall, the Zair wont come out either and you just enter helpless state (on the bright side, Rising Grapple while too close to a wall gets Samus really high if done correctly).
quick question
do you think it's worth working on pm characters anymore?
should I focus only on Meele characters?
can you do a tumble grapple then uair interrupt onto the stage?
follow up question;is ftilt to full charge CS a 50;50 in this game?
At the right percent they'll get knocked over and have to tech the ground. You time it on the missed tech and hope they don't press L/R. It's not really a "50:50" but it's a strong tech chasing option if you know the opponent isn't good at reaction teching. The game doesn't care what animation you're in before the move because you'll perform the u-air animation anyways right before hitting the ground.
+SkyNinja759 AI is super good dude you can get easier invincible ftilts or d smashes from the ledge
I don't understand how to instant free fall grapple. When I try I just end up dying and don't rise up.
airdodge up?
Thanks. Sorry I didn't know.
Out of dual mains, plup. Solo mains, definitely hugS.
Honestly, i find lock & esam the most entertaining to watch. Their tech skill is perfect
Hey, what happened to Smash Tips?
that guy ACT1VE gots a really good SAMUS
Plup
even though he mains sheik now, no other samus can even come close
except westballz Kappa
Why double jump for Double Missile on Battlefield, Esam (in the clip that you used) was only short hopping...
zegtronic on Battlefield you can do a platformcancel *homing* missile by shorthopping, but on YS and PS you do a *smash* missile. This is because the animations before the missile comes out differ between the two types of missiles (24 and 15 respectively) and this corresponds with different platform heights for canceling.
Could we get a video on escaping shield pressure?
Plup!!! No contest here best Melee and PM Samus!
would be cool if you explained what an uair interrupt actually is or how to do it
Can You Tell Me How Good/Bad My Ryu Shield Break Video Is?
I don't have an iphone so I cont get the app but I really want to see that needle video so can this count as a vote?
Do you guys know which techs aren't possible on PAL? I've tried the extended grapple and super wave dash a million times on my version but can't, and apparently some things are different D:
+Blackhawk Super Wavedash works, extender not thou
Worth mentioning is the fact that the Extender is exclusive to the NTSC edition of the game, and does not exist in PAL. Not that big of a loss though :P
Also, difficulty 5.5/10 on super wavedash? :O You've only got one frame to pull it off, so it's really hard doing it consistently :/
u didnt go over battlefield missiles in which u can do a running short hop to missile instead of a double jump which is faster
plup is best samus. watching him at Battle of the 5 gods was amazing.
Plup, duh.
Duck for second best tho.
shoutouts to westballz
hugs man
Samus, the Fox slayer
Leffen slayer*
3rd: Hugs, 2nd: Duck, 1st: Plup
So what's up with the techniques that had no "how to" explanations like up air cancel and charged shot cancel?
Charge shot was explained after watching again. Up air interrupt wasn't tho, I believe.
just purely timing
WHERES THE OTHER SAMUS MORE ADVANCED TECHNIQUES VIDEO PART 222
That was awesome!!
I'd say Plup has the best Samus right now.
Thanks for this!
Thanks for the info, I've been playing as Samus for years now without knowing these advanced techniques :0
so I can only vote if I have a smart phone? I'd love to see a Sheik needle guide
How did ESAM platform cancel the missiles on battlefield without double jumping? Also I can't seem to get my double jump that short, is there a special way to make the double jump that short? Ty for your time if you read and/or reply to this
short hop, wait 2-3 frames, then do homing missle
Thank you so much
I'm having trouble shooting missiles out of falling from a platform consistently. Any tips?
have to get the strong missile that isn't homing. it's like a smash attack with the B button. the homing one is slower. other than that just practice
i miss the shield drop with samus. i think this is really useful too :)
Plup, not even any possibility to be otherwise.
Plup, Duck, and Hugs are the obvious 3.
People don't give Duck enough credit. Duck for best Samus.
Pluuuup. Probably has the best Samus.
Pretty definitively its plup. AKA Leffen's bane.
thanks for the vídeo finaly more samus videos.
and best samus its easy, plup is The best, no duck, no hugs, not me, only plup
I'm really new at serious Melee play, can anyone list the command for wave dashing? I see it used in tournament play and it looks like a necessity for any player, especially Samus mains.
check our "How to learn melee" playlist
Plup used to have the best Samus I think, but if we are talking right now I'd say either Hugs or Duck.
Plup beat Duck easily in a Samus ditto at dreamhack just a few months ago.
But plup doesn't play Samus as much as Sheik is what I'm saying.
