Quite a few years ago when politics was a bit more civilized, I told my crew that they had to wear chaps and "corks" The chaps we used were the slip in types that Baileys sold. Snivel and whine all over the place. Then one day, one of the guys changed his toon. Seems he laid one of my hopped up Huskies across his knee. Got out of it without a scratch!!! Never heard any more whining. So that's the black and white of it. You take your chances but not on my job.
I am supplied both 462s and 500is to use at work, while they are both great saws I am quite impartial to the older husqvarna 372 and the newer 390xp. They just have a grumble about them rather than a scream and a whole lot of torque, something the newer saws seem to lack in favour of rpm.
thats because chain speed matters more for production... id rather have a saw that pulls a lot of RPM than a saw that has a shit load of mid range torque...
The airfilter is easy to pop of,but u forgot to mention what a bad filter it is👎👎👎I'm a Stihl fan rather sad about it! Husqvarna on the other side thinking really hard if I'm going to jump ship, plus their warranty is miles ahead of Stihl as well ,plus heaps cheaper as well,so Husky here I come !!!
Great video, love the demo’s on the saws, big time Husky fan, Northern Michigan logging,, That 500i was killing it!! Would have no problem using it,, my first saw was a Husqvarna 61,, 40 years later still have that saw, many, many trees later, still cuts like a champ,,
I love our 500i, I’ve run it with both a 25” bar and a 36” bar and it just cuts great, it is super bar heavy when you use anything longer than a 20” bar but when you’re cutting up an already felled tree that’s not a bad thing, it does make it slightly harder to get a level cut when felling a tree or cutting off a stump but it’s still lighter than the 461 and cuts better. With the relatively small price difference I’d never buy a 461 instead.
I had the 500i and it's my favorite saw by far! After ur initial start ur supposed to let in run for 1 to 1 and a half minutes to calibrate to ur elevation. I ran a 28 inch stihl light bar and it was fast I can only imagine a 25 inch bar let alone a 20 inch bar. I think they need to make all stihl saws just like the 500i!
Same here Jerome, I have a 661 & a monster 881 both great saws but being a retired arborist 62yrs old they’re TO HEAVY now😩😖😂ABSOLUTELY LOVE my 500i 👍👍☝️✌️
That 462 maybe needed the M tropics reset. They are usually great running saws and about a pound lighter then the 500. The longer bar maybe made it feel heavier. The 500 is a saw that is at a different level. It is going to be my next saw. My dealer can seem to get enough of them.
I love my Husqvarna 550 XP which I run with a 16, 18 and 20-in bar for most of my needs. However, for the bigger trees I cut I will be purchasing a 572 XP with a 32 or 36-in bar.
Having used a 500i and putting it side by side with a 592xp I think a lot of that throttle response is more placebo. The saw is fast no doubt, but it isn’t a bit faster than the 592 I put it up against. What it does have is very little trigger travel from 0 to wide open. It makes it seem like it’s jumping to rev faster. The 500 is a great saw but I don’t think it is perfect by any means. It’s a stripped down sports car where the huskies are quite a bit more refined and sturdier built. Apples to oranges.
I owe 3 stihl saws, 2 blowers and a weed trimmer all stihl and can say I've just had good luck with the stihl products for at least 45 years so probably not changing 😀 Merry Christmas!!!
Put a Tsumura light bar on your 572 or adapt a Stihl Es Light bar onto your 572. You will end up with a better balanced saw. The .6 of a pound weight difference with the 500i is noticeable but comes with a cost in terms of both price and durability. Do a muffler mod or have someone that knows what they are doing do one for you. For an even bigger smile on your face and more power and better starting have your 572 professionaly ported (do your research and choose a porter wisely). The 572 is fuel efficient and has better air filtration than the Stihls. And you already own and like your 572xp. This comes from someone that has run all 3 of these saws logging every day and I own more Stihls than other brands. A properly maintained pro saw of any brand should last the average homeowner/firewood cutter many many years if not their lifetime. Choose the one that feels the best to you and that you enjoy running.
Or, he could just get an Egan filter kit for the 500i and negate the only positive husky has going for them. Why spend hundreds of dollars on porting a saw to get it to run as good as the 500i when it's still gonna be heavier. And the 500s biggest downside can be fixed for like 75 bucks max
There is no harm in drop starting a saw, as long as you have the chain brake on, it is perfectly safe, saves time, and is much easier as you are using gravity to your advantage, which I have been doing for over four decades.
L.O.L. first I came across in vids. or comments the right way to start them. But my 064' is tweaked and locked on full throttle at start. So why let a brake hold it back and hurt it. Be dicing faster too if you fire and let it roar.
Good vid, my vote is for the 572xp all day long and then the 462 second. The cut times (if important to some) are negligible and the cost of the 572xp is definitely in favor of most. The 572xp also has better bottom end grunt when needed. Bigger bearings as well. Another perk to the 572xp is it uses much less fuel than the 500i. All 3 a great saws and produce good power and are effective but IMHO the 572xp is the better buy/saw for the money. 🙂 Merry Christmas everyone!! Stay safe and and keep smiling!! FJBLGB!!!
I own both the 572 and 500i and the 500i has my vote everyday after using it a year or so it seems to less fuel than when it was new. It's also way more reliable
thank you sir. we own all of these and the husqvarna is my go to other than my old McCullough. But the 500 I is growing on me due to ease of start and rapid throttle response.
My 572xp will almost always start 3-4 pulls.. prime, pull a time or two until it wants to fire, then turn choke off and starts next pull. I like it. Would love to run a 500i sometime.
Same exact problem on my MS250 - it doesn’t like pump gas even when mixed with sthil oil. If you go all out and use the sthil gas, I’ve never had any of the saws bog (assuming sharp chain, and all the other “normal” things). Another channel mentioned the lower quality fuel causes carbon buildup in the exhaust port / muffler….
Every small engine mechanic I know advises against using premix on a regular basis. They say it burns too hot for the rings.... This was a few years back but it has kept me away from it. Maybe they have adjusted or advanced it since though
I run Husqvarna saws. Mostly because I live near the town Husqvarna in Sweden where all the pro saws are designed and put together!! You got a new subscriber here! Happy New Year!!
Get yourself a 32” lightweight bar. You’ll love it! I run the 500 daily(tree service). Yes you can run a 36, but the 32 is the sweet spot. Also a west coast saws “bark box” will really tie the room together;) …your neighbors won’t thank you 😆
The "little bubble" is a purge, not a primer. It is super handy if you 1) run it empty (save some pulls on restart) or 2) have to start it when it's super hot and heat soaked (get some cooler fuel in the carb).
Push your purge while the engine is running and you may find that the engine will run rich, so a bit of priming may also be happening with a purge. Semantics really imo.
12:29 I love how you are all about safety, thanks for telling everyone how to be safe but not a lot can go wrong with dropstarting, it’s easy and I feel it puts less strain on my back. I am a novice with chainsaws but already the 1st day I ran it I drop started it. I had a lot of fire wood to cut in an unorganised pile so my saw was on and off and on and off all the time and drop starting is just easier. As long as you have your chainbrake on it’s safe to do, if drop starting is to dangerous then you should not run a chainsaw because running a chainsaw is more dangerous as drop starting. I fully agree on all safety gear: chaps, goggles, face shield, helmet, hearing protection, gloves… you name it but saying not to drop start I disagree with, especially with small homeowner grade chainsaws drop starting should not be seen as a big risk
Thanks, I would think fuel injected meant no need for a bubble to press 8 times and that it would start on the first pull. Thought it would be similar to a fuel injected car, no need to touch the gas peddle for starting.
I’m only 130lbs and the 572 is a hard old days work for me to throw around …. Might have to go 500i based on what you say about the weight , I’m glad you mention that sthils can be hard to start too , my farmboss is a bugger to start cold .
My brother got a 462c for Christmas and that thing is so badass I’m in love. But I did try to get a 500i with no luck. Those saws are elusive. Stihl dealer said all the 500i’ are on back order.
I have a 462 with a light 25 inch bar and the balance is perfect. I think maybe super low rakers on your test? I don't have a chain stalling issue with mine at all. If I didn't have the 462 I would sure be considering the 500.
Saw is just a bit dull and the rakers are cut a bit short The best comparison is change is to change bar and chain saw to saw!! The 500i probably has the light weight bar on it !
Please next time, have the same size bar and chain on each saw. The 500i having a 20in bar is going to keep the rpms higher and just eat. Remake this video with all 3 saws having same size bar and chain.
It's the husky tuned in own 572 and it cracks hard also have 395xp and 3120xp still and huskys are on par I'm Husqvarna man cause I know them and explosive high end power when needed
Great video I like your unbiased opinion of the product and no bad comments about either. Both companies build good stuff I run husqvarna saws as well and like them alot.
Hello, I want to make a suggestion to you for the benefit of your saws. Before you even run the saw put skid plates underneath them it saves so much on the bottom rash on a saw and will keep the saw in so much better condition. The tank guard/skid plate is saw saver for sure. I have them on all of my saws if they make them for the particular model. Thanks for the videos.
Happy holiday. It's not an accurate comparison when you are not running fresh chains with the same pitch, and equal bar lengths. They're all great tools, personal preference is likely the deciding factor and maybe your pocketbook. It will be interesting to see if you can get 20 yrs out of a fuel injection system. I run a 20 yr old MS 460 and it's been run hard and rebuilt once with several replacement tanks. Saws take a beating. Lastly, thank you for highlighting the importance of safety! I'm 64 and have gone through three pair of chaps. I WON'T run a saw without full PPE, ALL OF IT! I'm a retired physician assistant and like you, I've excised several chainsaw lacs and closed them up. Eric
I happen to like the primer bulbs. Anything to make it easier to start. (course I remember back before they had all these newfangaled gadgets like primer bulbs, chain brakes, and such) Gets the fuel up to the carb quick. I always wondered why they do not put them on most bigger saws.
Primer bulbs or purge bulbs, to put it corectly, don't influence starting. Why? They don't dump fuel into the venturi of the carburetor. The rule doesn't apply to fuel injection tho.
@@1u5t1n They 'influence starting' by purging the air out of the line therefore reducing the number of times you have to pull the rope to get fuel to the carb. Sooo using them makes it easier to start the equipment. So why don't they put them on bigger engines was my question. My 40cc saw with the purge bulb used will start in 2 or 3 pulls. My 60cc saw, (new), without a purge bulb takes 10 or more pulls. I'm talking about cold starts all a round. Yeah, as I get older, I CAN do it but it would be a damn sight easier with the purge bulb. That's all I'm saying. Have a great day.
@@johnme7049 there shouldn't be any air on the fuel line, unless you run it out of gas, wich you shouldn't do. 10 pulls to start a saw isn't normal tho. Small husky with that bulb thing is like 2 to 3 pulls to start and a bigger stihl usualy goes at , maybe 5 for me. That's like moderate temperature, not too hot or cold. The real reason why Husqvarna puts the bulbs on chainsaws is... because they run hot and believe it or not, the carb will vapor lock. If the damn thing doesn't start when it's hot, you need the press the bulb to get cooler fuel into the carb. A guy who repairs chainsaws told me that and I tend to believe him.
If you look closely, it looks like the Stihl 462c bogged down at the exact *same spot* of that log where there is a dark section of wood on all 3 cuts [ 17:35 , 17:49 , 18:02 ]. Might be a dense section of wood. The first couple of cuts on the log were on the dried out end pieces - so, those were easy to cut.
All my gas saws are Stihl... In my truck I keep a cordless electric in case the road is blocked by deadfall since it can sit on the back seat and not put gas vapors in the cab of the truck .. where I live it rains all the time you don't leave saws outside if you don't have to.So a cordless with 2 batteries inside the truck is good for unexpected road blockages.
hey there , love the looks of your farm and enjoyed watching your comparison video on the saws ...i myself like the husqvarna 572 but i havent run the 500i yet..i just know that they are a little lighter and a little more manuveurable . The 572 is smooth . I will take smooth all day long and i dont find it heavy at all, i also run a 24" bar on mine ..My other saw is a husqvarna 372 xp with a 28" bar ..i use it when i feel like a change or if i am into big wood , meaning 4 foot or five foot fir or big cedar . i will come back and watch more as i enjoyed this one and like the fact that you are promoting safety gear which is impartive with chainsaws and good for people watching to let them know...cheers from British Columbia , Canada .
Personally my choice would be the 500 I! I learn to use a chainsaw on a Stihl MS 261 I still have that saw today The latest quote I got for the 500 I price wise wise 1350! And that was one with an 18 inch bar! Don’t get me wrong Husqvarna‘s are great saws! we’ve had two of them in the past but once mom and dad brought home that Stihl I never looked at another brand and I never I will stick Stihl!
I've had two huskys and just bought my first stihl all three have been great, one thing i noticed years ago when the show axe men came out is you only see two brands. Poulan pro makes a nice saw if you only use it once and discard 😮 and it says pro on the side 😂 so you can feel good about it 😮
I cut timber for a living inBC and Pacific Northwest. I came out here a Sybil man I thought. Now me and most all pro timber cutters use husky’s. Better balance and faster cut. Just my thoughts and I have a saw in my hands 325 days a year.
look hard enough through the comments and you'll see hundreds of folks telling me that they work in the timber industry and only use Stihl....it's so funny how divided folks are on this
They are good options for those on a budget. Good saw for those who are not into cut times. They are durable but have drawbacks as they are not using the latest technology.
Merry Christmas Josh. Enjoy these warm winter weather for a week. Had a friend of your over here doing some grading on my farm in Wentworth. Frank Nelson said to say HI.
I envy the fact you can get out and do everything you do. I have the knowledge of a lot of what you do, but I had blood clots 20 years ago. I still have the want and strength but I run out of oxygen very quickly on the simplest of things.
Like the review. The 572xp seems really balanced for the bar. I really do like the 500I after seeing it work in action. Like the wrap around handles. Alot of good places to grab for control of the saw. I run a 20-inch bar now. Really would like to be able to run a longer bar for certain applications. It is really interesting when you get into different chains and sprockets. Good sharp chain will bite hard. I would like to see how the new centrifugal chain brake works. Seems like a good feature for the faster saws. First saws I ran had no chain breaks. It nice to see the changes. They did teach you to respect them and use them correctly. I do like the 20-inch bar. I have not chosen my next saw yet. I do like that 500I. Hope you have a great holiday!
Get you a 28 or 32" bar and try using it without bending over or dogging in all the time. Just use the tip of the bar. I promise you, you'll never go back to a short bar again. When I bought my 500i, it had a 25 on it. Used it like that for a day and immediately put my trusty 32 back on because my back was killing me from bending over all the time
Like the saw comparisons on this channel. That 500I is a damn screamer, it sailed through that log like it was a twig. Watching these videos has made me want another saw, especially a pro grade Stihl.I have nothing against Husky, I've just always had Stihls. My Friend has an older Husky 372 XP and that saw will rip.
Displacement is not the way to think about these new stihl saws. They are all about power to WEIGHT! Who cares what the displacement is when it weighs less than the husky. I'm no stihl fan boy, they're great but my favorite saw is my 372xpw, but stihl has done an amazing job with the 500.
Put a bark box on the saw instead of the regular muffler mate , and you will get more power + that saw is ' auto tune ' so once you start it , hold the trigger down for 5 - 7 second and repeat and you should have your saw tuned. 👍
If you are one of the guys who loves to buck wood big or small with with your big saw. 500i has too much speed to torc ratio. It likes to lift the wood and move it in the spinning direction. Husqvarna 572xp just cuts it. One thing to consider.
The on/off is not intended to be used in kickbacks or emergencies! So many people over look the chain brake, nobody really even talks about it. The brakes are designed, so if u get kickback or something like that the idea is getting used to using the brake with your wrist. Just imagjne the saw flipping up really quick. Once uve trained yourself properly with the brake by using the flick of ur wrist. You will be so much safer! People should be encouraged to use that chain brake any time you go to take a step! If you hit the off switch it doesn't stop the chain immediately. Itll free spin a bit first. Just think, u say the Husqvarna off switch makes more sense. But it actually doesn't, yes it can be user intuitive but, if the saw kicks back the tip of the bar will fling up. Actually the opposite direction of the button. Whereas stihls if u use your thumb u can flip it up with the thumb. But thats irrelevant, because the chain brake is your saving grace. Not the on/off switch. Also, idk why people say a stihl saw is hard to start. Actually i do. Its because they are amateurs and never ran saws for a living. A stihl saw, aside from the fuel injected model. Whenever you grab a stihl saw, thats been sitting for over 5-10mins. Start with full choke, pull approx 2 times, u should get a sputter, half choke pull once it should fire up in a high idle. Pop your chain brake off, let it high idle/free spin for a second or two. The miin u grab the throttle the half choke will go off. It should start in that exact sequence every single time! Regardless of how cold it is or how hot it is! We had a Husqvarna fanboy at my work who always tried making it seem like it was a hunk of shit and wont start. Every single time, it would start for me. Even after he pulled the hell out of it. You guys need to remember, stihls generally dont have a primer. So if it sits for a bit too long. The fuel will feed back towards the tank. So just remember, if it wont start without choking it. Start the process from the beginning. Full 1to2 pulls it sputters, half choke one more pull itll fire and high idle on half choke. Pop brake and youll quickly realize. It will always start! Ive ran in -20°F weather and still had no issues. Ive cut trees as a Line Clearance Arborist for 8yrs. So ive used a lot of the best saws on the market! If im given the choice, ill live by the stihl and die by the stihl! I know they wont let me down while tied in 50ft up a tree! Lol Also, as long as u have the chain brake on and it works properly, drop starting a saw isnt that dangerous. Its the knuckleheads the hold the trigger/handke with the right and drop it and pull with the left. Thats extremely dangerous! But if i can get anyone to take something from this long ass comment. Itd be to make that chain brake your best friend! And that chaps are a good investment too! Idc how careful u are. Its always better to be safe than sorry!
Buckin Billy has a pretty good take on both saws…I have two old school war horses…stihl 440 and a Husky 372…they work great!…not like the newer stuff mind you but certainly adequate…I might trade up soon…the new saws are pretty good performers now!!
So on paper between your 462 and 572 the Stihl comes out on top (on paper) however in my experience the xp lineup (in real life) feels and performs stronger than a comparable Stihl. I have not ran a 500i so I have no comparison for it. BUT I love my xp saws. Comparisons are tough as chain type, and sharpness could be slightly different. But again did you see how much better your 572 performed in the cut as compared to the 462?? The husky is .2hp less HP yet outperformed the 462🤷. Good video.
there is a guy who comes and helps me on my property from time to time, been around saws and lumber for a while. He had the 462 and i recently got the 500i. After he tried it out he went straight out and upgraded to the Stihl 661
i'd recommend investing in a band saw mill. Chain saw mill destroys saws and eventually ends up in the land fill...they're such a pain to use...you'd be better off searching out a small mill...spend the money right and have it forever...easy to re-sell if ya don't use it anymore. v/s chainsaw mill going in the trash or a pile of parts in the corner of your shed...my 2 cents
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thanks for the valuable insight. I was always thinking the size of chainsaw needed was going to be at the highest end of the spectrum (not knowing it was going to get destroyed). Time to change gears and start researching bandsaw mills. Thanks again for your reply, and thanks for the ReoLink videos. I ended up buying two through your link.
If the chainsaw is fuel-injected how does the crankshaft get its lubrication since normally the fuel is delivered through the port system which passes through the compression chamber under the piston hence lubricating the crankshaft as it passes.?
That 500i is sweet. I think both Husky and Stihl chainsaws are very close and most people pick either brand. Maybe Stihl is slightly more preferred but it doesn’t make Stihl better. The 500i is the most powerful saw pound for pound. I think I would want the 500i as my go to saw. I own both a Husky and a Stihl but they’re not heavy duty. I’ve run good saws but my saws are cheaper and I love my Husky I got from Tractor Supply and it’s not a pro saw but it’s the 450 rancher which is perfect for cutting up firewood for my splitter. Are there any electric chainsaws that can compete with a light commercial 2 stroke saw? I would like to see the best battery powered chainsaws being reviewed against a decent gas saw! Great video!
Check out "Project Farm" UA-cam channel, that guy tests everything from tools to fuels to oils etc. He has tested several brands of gas vs battery chain saws. Great channel.
Speaking purely from my experience.. Starting the saw on the ground is more bending over. Anyone who actually works for a living will tell you, the less bending over in the run of a day, the better. If you can't start the saw like a man, you shouldn't be using it to begin with. You won't always be in a position where the terrain is flat ground for a ground start. Sometimes you will be up on a log in the bush or in rough terrain where you need to drop start. The safety stuff looks great on paper, but in reality your brain and common sense is the best safety feature out there. If you want to wear chaps, shields whatever. Go for it. Let me remind you fellas that it wasn't that long ago when men fought a war often times shirtless in the jungles of the pacific. They called that the greatest generation. What would you call this sensitive generation we have today?
Right!!! Hell I run a saw shirtless myself lol. But when you start and run a saw daily for a living you damn sure don’t sit it down with a foot on it. Like you said if you can’t start it like a man you shouldn’t be using it. Just knowing ANSI recommendations is enough for me. Drop start the saw like a man if you can run it lol
Yea especially wearing chaps ear plugs and eye protection, a true lumber Jack only wears boots jeans and a flannel with a ball cap on and a cooler full of beer in the bed if his truck
To really compare these saws fairly, they all should have the same lenght bar and same brand new chain. You can change angles when sharpening and taking down the rakers can cause a chain bite stall. The new Stihl looks nice.
I’m not like Ford vs Chevy with saws. That being said I went with stihl. Only because I have several stihl sales and service shops near me,so I know I can get replacement parts ect real easy. Also qualified mechanical support if needed. To me that’s important..I haven’t needed them yet,but knowing it’s there makes me feel good. I’m sure you can’t go wrong with any of those saws..
That is smart and always something to consider. I have a saw shop that sells everything but, they are jerks. I went with what was available and comfortable for me to run. Tendonitous sucks.
"I also wear steel toed boots" you're just an all out genius ain't ya lmfao 😂🤣 "Yah if I'm gonna lose a any toes. It's gonna be all of em at the same time." Lmfao 😂 🤣

hmmm...do ya think you saw everything my brotha...so much going on behind the scenes here that ya never see...this was 3 hours of footage cut down to 15 mins! Crazy huh
A word to the wise. 572xp's lower bearings go out prematurely. I own 2 of them. The first one blew up with only 392 hrs on it and the second blew up with just ovr 300 hrs. and I use Husqvarna mix oil in them. I am a hand cutter and have cut for 34 yrs. It's a great cutting saw. I paid $1369 for it and they lasted for only 4 months. They should run for ovr a yr with no problems at all. I've ran Huskies all of my life
Yes and I use Husqvarna's mix oil. Husqvarna sells the whole lower end as a kit for $250 for the 572's rather than tearing the lower end bearings out and replacing them. The last one that I had rebuilt it was around $250 for the lower end and around $250 for labor. The dealer said some of the 572's are fine but many have blown up. But in Husqvarna's defense, there is a 2 year warranty on them now for professional use instead of a one year so they've been forgivin as far as I am concerned @@austindenotter19
chaps are for democrat wimps and the shield is to for wimps I only buy saws from stihl not that husquvarna cheap ass shit

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer perfectly said bro. It’s sad how politics has screwed up what was left of some ppls minds 🤯🤯
I have been using my 500i for the last couple of days cutting oak here in Northern Ireland, i gotta say the 500i is class. Worth every penny.
I’ve had pretty much every saw over the years and the 500i in my eyes is the best ever made
I am supplied both 462s and 500is to use at work, while they are both great saws I am quite impartial to the older husqvarna 372 and the newer 390xp. They just have a grumble about them rather than a scream and a whole lot of torque, something the newer saws seem to lack in favour of rpm.
I prefer 461 because of the talk. And 661.
You mean your are "quite partial" not "impartial".
thats because chain speed matters more for production... id rather have a saw that pulls a lot of RPM than a saw that has a shit load of mid range torque...
My 461 is a Beast! 25 inch bar I call JAWS! It eats wood like a fat boy loves Cake!
Great video, love the demo’s on the saws, big time Husky fan, Northern Michigan logging,,
That 500i was killing it!! Would have no problem using it,, my first saw was a
Husqvarna 61,, 40 years later still have that saw, many, many trees later, still cuts like a champ,,
I love our 500i, I’ve run it with both a 25” bar and a 36” bar and it just cuts great, it is super bar heavy when you use anything longer than a 20” bar but when you’re cutting up an already felled tree that’s not a bad thing, it does make it slightly harder to get a level cut when felling a tree or cutting off a stump but it’s still lighter than the 461 and cuts better. With the relatively small price difference I’d never buy a 461 instead.
I'd take the 500i all day over the 461 after running both for a few weeks....man that 500i screams!!
Did anybody see the chain drop on the bottom of the bar when he idled down the Husky saw; thought I seeing things.
Kudos to a fellow Carolinian!
I love my Husqvarna 550 XP which I run with a 16, 18 and 20-in bar for most of my needs. However, for the bigger trees I cut I will be purchasing a 572 XP with a 32 or 36-in bar.
The New 661 with a Carburetor you can set with a Screwdriver is Awesome Especially in Big Timber with a 25’ Stihl light Bar.
You said the 462 has more displacement than the 500i? Not true. The 500i is 79.2 cc,462 is 72.2,572xp is 70.6 cc.
In my opinion and from what I've read up on the 572 XP manages to holdup even though the CC is lower because the high RPMs...Stihl is more torque
And you need to run premium fuel, not ethanol at least 92 octane and above
Or clear premium no estradiol
They all make the cut, let your budget decide or your predominant work loads.Merry and healthy Christmas to all..
500i throttle response though 👌
Only those who own or have used will understand this experience
Its not recommended to dropstart chainsaws with easy start system
Unless it's a easy start. Then u brake the spring. Do what you want u know best
@@diesel_man99 Ur completely right and the 500i is a easy start. Good man
@@piercegalligan thanks. Brain's before brawn
FJBLGB!!!
The Husqvarna ha a dull chain too 🇸🇪🔥😎✌️
Even better buy is a 372. There’s a reason husky is still selling them, cuz the 572 has been such a bum seller.
Spot on!
I own both the 572 and 500i and the 500i has my vote everyday after using it a year or so it seems to less fuel than when it was new. It's also way more reliable
500i is thirsty so make sure you have your cuts ready
thank you sir. we own all of these and the husqvarna is my go to other than my old McCullough. But the 500 I is growing on me due to ease of start and rapid throttle response.
My 572xp will almost always start 3-4 pulls.. prime, pull a time or two until it wants to fire, then turn choke off and starts next pull. I like it. Would love to run a 500i sometime.
My MS460 bogs with pump fuel.....always did even with super....put in the ethanol free premix and it is a wild beast....absolutely no bog....
Also a west coast saws “bark box” will really tie the room together;) …your neighbors won’t thank you 😆
The dude abides
The "little bubble" is a purge, not a primer. It is super handy if you 1) run it empty (save some pulls on restart) or 2) have to start it when it's super hot and heat soaked (get some cooler fuel in the carb).
Push your purge while the engine is running and you may find that the engine will run rich, so a bit of priming may also be happening with a purge. Semantics really imo.
the 500i has no carb... its fuel injected... it has an impulse operated fuel pump, a throttle body, a fuel injector and a computer, but no carb
I have a 038 mag and was hard to start so I took 15 tho off the keyway and advanced the timing now it starts three pulls from stone cold 👍
@@timwoodger7896 might give that a try ! I’ve got a whole spare 039 so can’t go

My brother got a 462c for Christmas and that thing is so badass I’m in love.
But I did try to get a 500i with no luck. Those saws are elusive. Stihl dealer said all the 500i’ are on back order.
I got one I’ll sell you for $1800 never been used
I have a 462 with a light 25 inch bar and the balance is perfect. I think maybe super low rakers on your test? I don't have a chain stalling issue with mine at all. If I didn't have the 462 I would sure be considering the 500.
love the time you took to talk about safety
Saw is just a bit dull and the rakers are cut a bit short
The best comparison is change is to change bar and chain saw to saw!!
The 500i probably has the light weight bar on it !
No, it didn't have light weight bar. Thats just your plain Rollermatic E
Please next time, have the same size bar and chain on each saw. The 500i having a 20in bar is going to keep the rpms higher and just eat. Remake this video with all 3 saws having same size bar and chain.
Just ask him for a refund instead of demanding that he does all of that extra work
The husky is just better, I have one of each and love both but for different jobs
Lol... don't watch this for chainsaw reviews... he doesn't know didly.
It's the husky tuned in own 572 and it cracks hard also have 395xp and 3120xp still and huskys are on par I'm Husqvarna man cause I know them and explosive high end power when needed
I had all kinds of saws over the years I love my Husky
Great video I like your unbiased opinion of the product and no bad comments about either. Both companies build good stuff I run husqvarna saws as well and like them alot.
All good saws, should check out the echo 7310 aswell. Comparable saw with some very nice features and a more attractive price tag.

Just went to a 24" bar on my echo cs590 the other day and what a great difference from the 20". It seems to eat way more wood way faster.
Good saw. Built very well.
I run a lightweight 18 inch bar on my cs590 and I love it. But I put a 24 inch for bucking.
actually it will slow you down pulling more chain. 59 cc isnt very big for running a 24 inch bar.
Merry Christmas Joshua. Thanks for all the cool videos
Happy holidays!
Driving those big trucks is fun isn’t it? Have a Wonderful day!
Awesome vid,just bought a 500i both 20in and 25in bars.
Merry Christmas Josh!! Great video
I got one of those gas cans. Shove the tip right in the saw tank when filling with gas. Listen and when full it will stop flowing. 👍
I had one too... Until someone liberated it from me... Best gas can for chainsaws available
hey there , love the looks of your farm and enjoyed watching your comparison video on the saws ...i myself like the husqvarna 572 but i havent run the 500i yet..i just know that they are a little lighter and a little more manuveurable .
I use both 462 and 500i and 500i is my pick love that saw.
I am SO GLAD that I was referred to your Channel be "That Fix-It Guy"!
Happy holidays Josh. Hope your keeping warm down there my friend.
Poulan pro makes a nice saw if you only use it once and discard 😮 and it says pro on the side 😂 so you can feel good about it 😮
The helmet makes sense if you’re cutting in and around other logs. The kickback can get you as easily as falling debris.
Great video, both saws are very good you can't go wrong with either one,and I run husqvarna.
I cut timber for a living inBC and Pacific Northwest. I came out here a Sybil man I thought. Now me and most all pro timber cutters use husky’s. Better balance and faster cut. Just my thoughts and I have a saw in my hands 325 days a year.
look hard enough through the comments and you'll see hundreds of folks telling me that they work in the timber industry and only use Stihl....it's so funny how divided folks are on this
I know back east in Ky, and Tennessee it’s all Sthil. Came out here and all husky. Both have pros and cons. But both quality.
Thanks Josh! That 500i is amazing! Have a Merry Christmas too!
I hope to see some Echo / Shindaiwa reviews in the future. They make the best stuff for cheap!
They are good options for those on a budget. Good saw for those who are not into cut times. They are durable but have drawbacks as they are not using the latest technology.
What is the best thing to seal the end of logs with to prevent cracking
Anchor seal
Or use any old exterior paint you have laying around with the same effect.
Believe that was a very fair test for all three saws. But with out a doubt I’ll still go with the MS 500i !!!
My guess is you had the rakers way to low for the height of the tooth on the 462 causing it to grab in the cut
Stay healthy.

This was a timely review because I’m on the market for one now. Thank you.
I would have the ms500i did the job well the Husqvarna did well to both are good saws 👍
Used it like that for a day and immediately put my trusty 32 back on because my back was killing me from bending over all the time
Hope that you have Family to spend the Holidays with Josh!
I have one really old sthil and two jonsered saws and know I'm thinking about getting a husqvarna 572 xp or the sthil 462 but i really cant decide 🤔
If I had to choose...I'd go 500i that's the best...cost is a little more but man what a saw. Otherwise...i'm on the fence between the 462 and 572xp
Howdy Josh hope u and your family have a Healthy and happy Christmas God bless
Merry Christmas Josh, good review and comparison. Have a safe and happy holiday.

I am interested thinking of buying one what's the price?
@@sampsonjumbo8770 Mid $1300 range depending on the length bar you get on it.
Displacement is not the way to think about these new stihl saws. They are all about power to WEIGHT! Who cares what the displacement is when it weighs less than the husky. I'm no stihl fan boy, they're great but my favorite saw is my 372xpw, but stihl has done an amazing job with the 500.

Man i just loving watching your videos 😉 love from Cyprus 🇨🇾
How many cord of wood can put on Tator??
Buckin Billy has a pretty good take on both saws…I have two old school war horses…stihl 440 and a Husky 372…they work great!…not like the newer stuff mind you but certainly adequate…I might trade up soon…the new saws are pretty good performers now!!
I enjoy his content for sure...the 500i is a screamer!!
Good video.
So the 500 has more displacement? Are they direct competitors? The 500 vs 572 throws me off. I sounds like they are in different classes…
there is a guy who comes and helps me on my property from time to time, been around saws and lumber for a while. He had the 462 and i recently got the 500i. After he tried it out he went straight out and upgraded to the Stihl 661
I have both….661 isn’t a day to day saw in my opinion. 500i really is an everyday carry tool. I love both but 661 is heavy
Which Husqvarna would you recommend to use as a chainsaw mill to cut hickory logs eleven feet long and max diameter of 28 inches?
i'd recommend investing in a band saw mill.
If the chainsaw is fuel-injected how does the crankshaft get its lubrication since normally the fuel is delivered through the port system which passes through the compression chamber under the piston hence lubricating the crankshaft as it passes.?
might have to google that one
It still injects the fuel in the same port as a carburetor.. it’s a fuel injection throttlebody instead of a traditional carburetor
Is it mechanical or electronic fuel injection?
LOL....my brotha...I'm with ya. However i catch hell whether I start it on the ground or drop start...it's just the story of my life now lol
I would call this generation the one that complains about stuff on UA-cam.

Merry 🎄 Christmas Josh
well done. my next chainsaw purchase will be the 500i. thanks for making this video. all the best!
"I also wear steel toed boots" you're just an all out genius ain't ya lmfao 😂🤣 "Yah if I'm gonna lose a any toes. It's gonna be all of em at the same time." Lmfao 😂 🤣
if ya read down through the comments section you'll find about 200 more insults from folks who feel very passionate about their chainsaw "scientist" opinions. I wear steel toes to protect my toes...so should you
I have a old 385 husky and it has never let me down but now days that 500 i looks to be something to look at for sure
C at the end of ms×××C stands for comfort. Meaning lighter and balanced.
I noticed you let the 500i warm up several minutes but not the other two.
hmmm...do ya think you saw everything my brotha...so much going on behind the scenes here that ya never see...this was 3 hours of footage cut down to 15 mins!
I've ran Huskies all of my life
I was thinking about buying a 572xp g but after reading this idk
Been running mine hard for 5 years doing cut to length northern wisconsin. No issues. What ratio i go 40/1.
Being that you are a 661 owner, what would you prefer to daily use, the 661 or the 500i?
500i all day! 661 is a whole lotta saw to carry all day
Merry Christmas Josh!
Same to you!
Got a 500 i absolutely love it
