I think my favourite thing about Jackie is how she explains that some techniques she uses are perfect FOR HER, and why. And she often offers an alternative if you have the opposite problem.

Little known fact, Jackie is licensed. He did make a valid point though, people have with darker complexions do have to learn what works for our skin and undertones because a lot of brands aren’t catered with us in mind, but we are innovative. I love Jackie’s techniques and watch her faithfully.
Gemini Peterson it's a shame brands doesn't generally care to cater to all skin tones. They could gladly, in my opinion, drop the "ten different undertones for one colour"-idea. To force half the population on earth to know their skin because they only care about white skin makes me really angry. I'm glad some brands are changing their ways, it's just a shame that there have to be an outrage to get them to do it.
That makes a lot of sense actually. Her knowledge isn't diluted because she's not getting it from youtubers who just watch other youtubers trying to create trends regardless of how well techniques work on all faces.

She's a licensed cosmetologist and used to be a makeup artist which explains why she knows a lot about technique and working with colors. Also like you said, having a deeper skin tone you really have to know your own skin! I really like her videos!
The same can (and should) be said about *any* and *all* skin tones, across the spectrum. Also, it's not just about skin tone, but ones overall coloring really needs to be considered. As someone who sits on the fairer end of the spectrum, something as simple as changing my hair color can make or break a look.
@@xamyx2205 100% agreed. I guess the difference for people with dark skin is the lack of knowledge and understanding when it comes to the spectrum of undertones and shades we can have, which are not the same as people with fairer skin. This just makes us seek the information for ourself and for a lot of us we just end up becoming little experts. Hair can absolutely make a big difference but you can't when it comes to skin, a foundation or concealer with the wrong undertone or shade makes cant be overlooked. And unfortunately people with dark skin are much more likely to struggle with that. I have medium dark skin with a warm olive undertone and until a few years ago I couldn't find an affordable foundation my shade/right undertone and was recommended more than once products that were gray or orange on my skin by professionals.
xamyx what she said☝🏾🙌🏾 let’s not sit here and act like all skin tones have the same or even equal struggles across the beauty industry🙃 and that makes education much harder for some of us than the rest. a lot harder to learn when you and people that look like U are just recently starting to get a seat at the table. Education about ur shade and undertone and color correcting and application for dark skin is a lot harder with lack of representation in the industry. Barely a handful of notable makeup influencers or MUAs are black/dark skinned. I still can’t find an affordable bronzer for my skin tone. Like anywhere. I’ve tried. And I can’t afford high end bronzers like Fenty. I do agree, of course education should be emphasized and taught to all because everyone needs to know their own skin and learn techniques that work for them. But some skin tones have higher barriers to education than others. Like more limited access to the same wide shade ranges and undertones fairer skinned people tend to enjoy more and a disproportionate amount of representation, and in turn, education for fairer skin tones than darker skin tones.

It may be the whole Petty Paige thing, or her "white people" comments. Not giving my opinion on either one, but it may be why. She does have a lot of subscribers though, and some great collaborations.

It's funny, I have seen people using that technique for years, and we especially use it in theater when you're doing heavy stage makeup that also needs to look super flawless. These young kids don't know how makeup is supposed to be done when all they watch are Instagram "makeup artists" that just want to grab as much attention as possible.
THIS is exactly why Jackie is admired by so many AND should be the top beauty influencer out here. 100%, no questions. She knows her stuff and she gives it to you every time.

She’s definitely one of the more credible experts in advice she gives, but she’s also had some shady moments when it comes to criticism so I would question whether she should be THE top beauty influencer. In my opinion

Honestly the reason she is so educated about what colors and techniques works for her skin vs other yt muas is because make up isnt made for us unless its made by us. When it comes to non black own make up we have a limited amount of products to work with so we have to educate ourselves on what we can use and how to use it.
Absolutely. After watching this video, I spent some time watching some more of her videos, and it was so great to see that Too Faced got her on board to help expand their Foundation shade range after the disastrous original launch... I can think of a few brands that need that kind of help ! 🖤

@@hoodooandheadwraps6202 thats just not a good response to me. Stealing does happen but it isnt so rampant that its the main reason someone cant succeed. There are other more prominent opposition when it comes to a black women being an mua on youtube. Sponsorships and pr being more difficult to obtained is one reason they have trouble getting to the same height of popularity. If you want to be an advocate sure but don't always be so pointed about it very lose cannon of you. And i dont intend to be disrespectful im just very blunt.

I was a bit hesitant to watch this because I LOVE Jackie, I learnt everything I know about makeup from her so I wasn’t ready to see my fave getting bashed but you were so sweet and kind. It was nice to hear the reasoning behind the techniques she uses and this vid made me appreciate her (and you!) a whole lot more!

Your channel is growing because your relatable and gorgeous. It bothers me, hurts my heart because those comments, especially that one seemed to really affect you at the time. I really love Jackie Aina. I think she uses and excessive amount of different products which makes it hard for an average woman at home without the makeup stash she clearly has. I think she does some really stunning looks and I love her take no prisoners personality who defends herself to the end. She has every right to be a proud and assertive lady and I really enjoy her content!!

As an amateur and someone who only does their own makeup I 100 percent agree with you. I watch Jackie all the time especially as a chocolate girl and I learn so much from her. My beats have been so flawless recently😻 great video I’m a subbie now
SAME! I used to be a makeup artist for Lancome (waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day) and I didn't start to revisit until the last year. I found Jackie less than 6 months ago and feel ROBBED I ignored the beauty community as a whole for the sake of finding Jackie. I have the same problem. I'm golden with neutral undertones and the struggle is reaaaaal. If it's too neutral I look grey, if it's too warm I look red

I dont actually do my makeup a lot but when I do I was doing "instagram or youtube" makeup and I'm going to try to step away from that and use some of your suggestions. Would you do an MUA reacts to another MUA like Lisa Eldridge, Violette, or Scott Barnes, like they are influencers but still primarily makeup artists? I just feel you might make very different comments thru their process and I'm very curious about it.
