Yep it just doesn’t feel right seeing Foden operate on the left nowadays. I’m surprised he hasn’t considered operating in a back similar to 2018 with Bellingham and Foden both playing as attacking midfielders!
Englishman here, the majority of our fans will turn their noses up at anything but a trophy. They expect to beat everyone but France. A lot of English dislike Southgate despite his success. They zero in on decisions like Maguire/Tomori and pragmatism. It's like, every couple of year there is a chance for the nation to rejoice without hesitation, and we keep promising that moment to ourselves with that mantra 'it's coming home', and every year it doesn't, the expectations don't go lower, we just get more upset.
An Englishman who doesn't speak on behalf of English people 🙄 He is disliked for a number of reasons... He was given this role without merit, as he was a serial failure before this role. He's got one if the best squads we've ever assembled and he still doesn't have a system that works. Finally...he's so pathetically woke. Making the players take the knee, allowing the England kit to have the St George's Cross in clown pride colours and him purposely bringing on 3 black players to take the pens against Italy, as a sign of 'solidarity', which ultimately cost us the Championship. The man is a joke! Hope this clears up any misunderstanding 😂

@@crediblesalamander8056he’s not the one that raised them the players we’ve had have done that, his tactics are always lack lustre and too defensive for a team who have some of the best attackers in the world currently I think majority of decent managers from the top 20 maybe top 30 could do the same as him if not better

Honestly, i don't think Southgate is overhated. He has been handed an absolutely incredible squad, in my opinion the best England squad we have seen this century, and we have scraped past easy opponents too many times. We have been handed easy knockout draws in the last few tournaments and the second we get to a difficult team, (France, Italy, Croatia) we cannot find a way to win. He has zero in-game management ability and the players that we have deserve a manager of their quality.
Exactly, they’ve had an absolute star team of players especially in euro 2024 but still England barely scrapes by the whole tournament and gets beaten by a team who individually are equal if not less skilled but work together far better as a team and that’s all down to the manager, his passive and defensive tactics are useless and a complete waste of the players’ talents
I think as an englishman, Southgate has been our best manager for 30 years. Hes gone furher more than other managers in years. I think that people have always just expected england to win which makes them hate Southgate. You cant blame southgate for the exits from tournaments, the players just didnt perform. Eg. 2018 World Cup, Defensive players performed badly, 2020 , Referee was stupid but we shouldve done better, 2022 , We just didnt take chances. Southgate has taken the right players and has done everything right, you cant simply blame him
The main issue is that a lot of fans feel that he hasn't beaten any of the teams at our level. We beat Germany, once, in their worst period. Each time we were knocked out, you can point the finger to a Southgate decision (not making subs against Croatia, sending on three kids to take penalties against Italy in the final, not making substitutions soon enough against France... although I thought we were good in that one). He deserves HUGE credit for turning the backroom around though, and that should pay dividends to the next manager.
He'll be remember as one of the most successful managers England has had, assuming that he does OK in the Euros and then leaves before the next WC. If he happened to win the Euros and then the WC, or completely fluff everything for the next few years, then things could change, but both of those outcomes are very unlikely.
I think regardless of what happens Gareth and his Coaching Staff deserve a lot of credit, they have done so well. While it hasn't been easy to watch and there's been a stroke of luck here and there, the fact is he has got them to a final and they could possibly win it tonight
But it's the same with every English side at every tournament, all the potential and individual accolades in the world but never an end product... Guess we'll see how they do this time.
the players also need to step up, Southgate is not doing the best job with his subs and tactics agreed, but in terms of cohesion and identity he has done loads. But with so much talent on the pitch they should be able to 'find a way'. Its a team effort after all - mananager AND the 11 players
Let's be real, England has a top team for the Euros, but it would still be surprising if they win it all. France is still better, Germany can't afford to be embarrassing on home soil, Italy will still be a tough out. Heck, it might be Ronaldo's last tournament (it won't). Or Modric's (it will). It's also the last call for Belgium, and we can't forget Spain. Plus, any given team in Europe can beat a better team and then get bounced hard in the next round (Switzerland, Austria, Ukraine) Sure, England should be considered a favorite, but they can still make a great tournament without winning (like they did 3 years ago)
I will always consider him one of my favourite England managers regardless of this tournament. England played the best football at the last euros and were good contenders for the last two world cups. Winning isn’t an expectation to me, otherwise we could only have one decent manager in history.
Idk why English fans want him sacked.
